sabrina has only ever known sadness. all gifts aside, she was crying the moment she was born. she was a fussy baby, she didnât know how to express herself any other way, and her gift in a way was supposed to help her parents understand her tears, but that never really worked. instead, they just cried and got frustrated until they had to remove themselves from her entirely to catch their breaths. they were always trying to get sabrina to look on the bright side and to just be happy, but the more they tried to force it on her, the more tears were wept.
she wasnât always sad. she had moments where she felt happiness and fear and disgust and frustration, but most of the time there was a stormy cloud over her head. she tried to keep it to herself, she really did, but she had so little control over her gift that she would affect others without even thinking about it. she was bullied constantly for it.Â
and then she met alex. he was angry and constantly getting into trouble, but when sabrina was around him, his emotions never changed. he stayed him. and that was what led to a beautiful friendship. they were each others protectors and when their other friends were added to the mix, it was nice that they could all share a common ground because of their gifts. still at the end of the day, it was just sabrina and alex when they needed each other the most.
being diagnosed with depression was...what it was. it wasnât an eye-opener to sabrina, but the medication did help for the most part. made her so-called gift a bit more unstable, but at least she could get out of bed.Â
riley really was the game changer. they were so complex and so sad and sabrina just wanted to comfort them. she never felt this way before; sort of mom-like? but she was. she told riley and herself that she was going to get out of bed every day for her, and for a long time that rang true. she started doing things like a normal person, just a sad little comment coming out her lips every now and then.Â
her sort of social life was the beginning of the end though, because she met hans that way. she was struggling with school still, deciding her future and college and all that, and he was charming and kind. they dated for two years before things took a bad turn. he had convinced her to stop taking her meds and she did it because she was in love and had never been before (at least she didnt realize it before). he was her first everything. her first kiss, first time, and her first pregnancy scare. the scare turning to be true was enough to send them both on an emotional whirlwind but when sabrina lost the baby....there was no recovering. he ended things with her and she was a hollow shell of who she used to be. it took almost an entire year to get her out of her home, but luckily, alex was there for her again. they moved to amity park. away from anything and everything that could hurt her or remind her of it.
life in amity park was overstimulating at first. it was noisy and there were people everywhere, but it really pushed sabrina to go out of her comfort zone again, this time back on her medication and in a stable home. she got herself a job in one of the saddest environments possible, but she did good work there. she could be herself and help people deal with their pain and she just loved that she was making something out of what she considered a curse for the longest time.
still, she visits echo creek all the time. most of her friends are still there and she loves them so much that she canât just not see them all the time. even though her and jo are weird sometimes, she really does like being around ALL of her friends.Â
she has learned that crying doesnât have to be weakness. she cries freely for every emotion she feels and doesnât feel as much shame as she used to. she cries after every single movie she sees. tv shows too. she just has a lot of feelings.
she doesnât really talk to her parents much anymore, unless it is about her medication. she is fortunate that they still help her with medical things, but other than that....radio silence.
she secretly loves the metal music that alex blasts around the house. she has a tendency to listen to a lot of sad girl music, but she still has a playlist of alexâs favorite songs on her spotify. she has one for each friend of hers, actually. so when she is alone and upset she can listen to the music that makes her think of her friends.
even though everything she went through with hans was hard, she still has a small belief that there is someone out there for her. she still wants a family someday, and to be loved as much as she loves. she doesnât really date easily and she doesnât sleep with anyone she doesnât have a connection with, but she is trying to put herself out there more, so who knows.
despite life being against her, she does try to be more social. she smiles more, she dresses up cute thanks to daria, and she just tries to take it all one day at a time. there are moments where she gets into her funks, where she is ready to just end it all and have that be that, but she has an amazing support system and she is grateful for them.
