Never getting over Charlie Kirk getting shot in the throat right after he uses it to downplay gun violence. Gotta be a top 3 assassination. Up there with Shinzo getting doohickey'd.

Look, I get why people do think that somehow Solarpunk is mostly an aesthetic. Because a bunch of folks really focused so much on it as an aesthetic - especially here on tumblr.
But for heaven's sake. The people who think that "actually, a solarpunk world without a deep conspiracy and capitalist exploitation is actually like super pro-capitalist" are just... like, the entire point of the genre is imagining a world that exists outside of capitalism. That is literally what makes it radical.
Folks who want to imagine a world that still is capitalist literally are the kind of people who maintain capitalism. Because the system relies on telling you that there cannot be anything else. And if you say "a solarpunk future without capitalism is unrealistic" then you basically say: "they are right - that cannot happen, there is never gonna be anything better than capitalism."
A lot of folks also claim that Solarpunk is ecofascist. Not realizing that this genre largely goes back to Latin American indigenous movements.
And the folks who claim that this is all rooted in capitalism also do not seem to understand that the entire fucking reason why we have not gone renewable, despite having had the technology, is that capitalism does not want it. Too many billionaires depend on their fossil fuel related assets. A bunch of billionaires would loose their billionaire status if we switched to renewables. Too much of the economy is tied to fossil fuels.
And this is why "actually, we can move onto a post-capitalist society, and live without there being a secret conspiracy" is more politically radical than any stupid "oh yes, solarpunk should just been a prettier, greener form of cyberpunk".

βHaha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.β
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
βY2K came to nothing amirite?β
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
βRemember the hole in the ozone layer?β
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those βitβs gonna be an apocalypseβ disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think thatβs going to happen. I donβt know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope wonβt help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

You hate yourself so loudly. You hate yourself at the top of your lungs. Your loathing for yourself permeates your speech.Β βSorry Iβm just rambling.βΒ βDonβt worry about it.β βJust ignore me.βΒ βSorry if Iβm annoying you.βΒ βSorry I donβt make sense.βΒ βSorry about that.β Sorry, sorry, sorry. You act as if you have to beat everyone else to the punch. As if the punching bag is you. If you hate yourself first, if you hate yourself loudest, then nobody will hurt you. You clapped your hands over your ears and shut your eyes and balled yourself up so that youβd never have to experience peopleβs loathing for you. And it meant you never heard their love. You drowned it out. You screamed your hatred over it. And you never got to hear it.Β

How to Start Sustainable Living at Home
Starting sustainable living at home does not mean changing your whole life overnight. I started with very small habits, and honestly, that worked much better than trying to become βperfectβ immediately.
Here are the things that actually helped me:
I stopped buying things I didnβt truly need. This alone reduced so much waste and saved money.
I switched to reusable items like water bottles, grocery bags, food containers, and cloth towels.
I started turning off lights and unplugging chargers when not using them. My electricity bill became lower after a few months.
Instead of throwing food away, I planned meals better and used leftovers creatively.
I began separating recycling properly. At first I made mistakes because I didnβt know local recycling rules.
I used refillable cleaning products and bought bigger containers instead of many small plastic bottles.
I washed clothes in cold water more often and air-dried them when possible.
One thing that surprised me: buying less fast fashion made a huge difference financially and environmentally.
I also started growing small herbs at home. Even a tiny kitchen plant setup felt rewarding.
Mistakes I Made When Starting
Trying to change everything in one week
Buying βecoβ products I didnβt actually need
Thinking sustainable living had to be expensive
Feeling guilty when I forgot or failed sometimes
What Actually Worked For Me
Focusing on one habit at a time
Reusing items before buying new eco-products
Choosing progress over perfection
Creating simple routines I could keep long-term
A small personal observation: once my home became less wasteful, it also became less cluttered and calmer. I noticed I spent more intentionally and appreciated what I already had more.
Sustainable living is really about consistency, not perfection. Even small daily actions at home can make a big difference over time.
You donβt have to be constantly distressed about the state of the world to prove you care btw
