rereading daenerys ii in storm of swords will forever make me so mad at jorah mormont. something about the way she thinks "if you were my true knight you never would have kissed me, or looked at my breasts the way you did" makes me want to choke the life out of him.

her whole worth as a human was placed on her appearance and her sexual appeal. she started the story as a fucking pre-teen and her brother had been molesting her and appraising her body the way one would count a horse's teeth. she was sold to a grown man as a child bride and was always reminded what an ~exotic beauty~ she was by everyone she met. and finally she finds ONE man in her life who doesnt only talk to her because they want to fuck her (a very young teenage girl) and he betrays her trust at the first opportunity.

the pure rage and despair and anguish that must've plagued her every time she thought of him. he's never loved her as one would love a queen or even as one would love a daughter. she has always been a sex object to be obtained in his eyes. he deserves to die so hard for that.

If the Wall is a metaphor for repressed conflict, grief and trauma (the same way the dragons are a metaphor for wrath, the pursuit of vengeance and the cycle of abuse), then the only way the Wall can come down in a thematically consistent way is for someone to deliberately destroy it who has previously had a vested interest in upholding it. I.e., a human, a Northerner, a Stark.

The show's version of it being destroyed by a wight dragon at the behest of the Others implies that it's simply an evitability that passively happens to people, which may be true sometimes, but makes for a fairly meaningless story. Simply witnessing the Wall between the status quo and a historical truth break on its own, or being brought down by someone else's wrath, someone with no connection to its history, even? Lacks catharsis and removes choice.

Bran destroying the work of Bran the Builder in order to fascilitate a confrontation with the truth and past culpability, in a way that seems apocalyptic but can actually lead to a true solution and genuine peace? Cathartic, thematically consistent, good metaphor for healing and reconciliation. Justifies the existence of Bran as a main character, even.

You know how Shakespeare's plays had a lot of comedy and dick jokes and the like because they were fun and for the common people, but were tragedies nonetheless, or could change genres/tone halfway through, starting with a more comic structure, then slowly shifting into something darker or interweaving the two, like his "problem plays" ie tragicomedies... well, you know how Always Sunny—

People hate Catelyn and Sansa because they're used to characters like them only being background characters, not actual people with hobbies, quirks, angry moments, etc. They got angry when they realized these are not decorations in a man's story or evil cardboard rivals for the female characters they DO like. They don't know their place. People decided femininity should only exist to provide sexuality or mothering the male hero and they don't like when it's validated as equal to masculinity, which the "woman's courage" both Cat and Sansa show do.

Viserys didn’t actually care about any of his children, not even Rhaenyra. He named her his heir, but whatever he wanted had as much weight as a fart, because the king isn’t above the law and Westeros used male-preference primogeniture as common law for inheritance for thousand of years. But like, the king can pass new laws? Queen Nymeria managed to change Dorne’s sucession laws to absolute primogeniture, allowing women to inherit before their younger brothers, and she was a refugee from a different culture without connections to the local lords. Viserys was a king from an established dynasty and had the support of the Vale, the Velaryons and dragons, I’m pretty sure he could’ve managed to change the inheritance of the Iron Throne if he wanted to. So, why didn’t he? Well, because he would lose (some of) the power he’d over his family. By keeping Rhaenyra’s position unsecured, he could dangle the possibility of naming Aegon II the heir like a carrot to control Alicent and her children, and then use it as a stick to force Rhaneyra to do what he wants, like marrying Laenor. Because even if Viserys never said it out loud, the threat of being desinherited was always underneath.

That thing people do with female characters where they like, in their attempts to compensate for the unfairly negative way that female characters are often treated by fandoms they end up overshooting and just making them Too Good and flawless and endlessly caring and loving and patient and incapable of doing or being wrong and just removing everything that's distinctive about the character, making her completely flat & forgettable & uninteresting, because they don't want to say anything about her or depict her doing anything that might possibly be interpreted negatively.

thinking about how the greens are so conquerors-coded. obviously aegon ii has those parallels to aegon i, a terrible legacy and expectation of fire and blood, but helaena also has parallels with rhaenys as a queen who’s considered a softer counterpart to her husband and beloved by the smallfolk.

then there’s aemond. possibly the most visenya-coded targ since the woman herself. he has her dragon, her penchant for war crimes, her commitment to her duty, potentially also her black magic depending on what the truth of his relationship with alys is — but i think the way he’s most like visenya is in his relationship with his siblings, especially aegon. he really is aegon’s visenya — his sullen, sometimes disagreeable protector. his sword will always fall on aegon’s side. he saves him at rook’s rest, rules the country in his stead and doesn’t try to take it, eventually dies trying to secure his crown. say what you will about aegon and aemond’s relationship, i think at the heart of it he has visenya-like devotion and duty.

I can’t wait for season 4 anymore I need the answer now!!!! I need to know what to expect the uncertainty is killing me!
