Just saw the take of the century, apparently Sleepaway Camp is a bigotted portrayal of trans women, everyone did you have any idea, I had no clue this slasher movie from the 1980s overtly made for cheap shock value was also problematic, normally those types of movies are so sensitive to queer and trans experiences, why surely no one who ever suddenly found parts of their experiences reflected in a movie which heavily features a young trans girl getting bullied for specifically trans traits would have been aware that it's also a deeply flawed, inaccurate, and transmisogynistic film I don't think anyone thought of that without instantly rejecting everything about it and declaring it a morally unsupportable media to interact with on pain of exile.

If I was remaking Sleepaway Camp I'd try and keep things as tonally close to the original as possible. I'd change the part where the protag is trans because her aunt made her dress as a girl, and the ending as a shock reveal, and that's about all. The protag would be a trans girl and also a murderer under her own agency, and the plot twist would be that her adopted aunt is the elderly OG Angela Baker who killed protag's transphobic parents. Keep the scene where she cuts off the head of the boy who had been faking dating her, keep the naked and blood covered primal scream except she's alone. The real ending is when she walks into the cabin where her adopted brother Ricky is the last surviving camper. She's still got the head, covered in blood, and Ricky is just like oh, and he helps her get cleaned up and dispose of the body cuz he's been on board with OG Angela's murder hobby the whole time, and he's the fucking best bro ever to his sis. They leave camp telling Angela how they had such a good time while the camp starts burning visibly through the rear window, and the credits roll over news footage implying OG Angela framed the creepy camp owner for everything.

One immediate step you can take if you're tech literate is try to personally back up as much DIY information from the internet as possible. We need to confront the fact that the internet is American dominated and primarily American-owned and in a larger sense owned and operated by capital primarily. For the informational resources of the internet to benefit human beings we have to deliberately make choices to structure it that way, and in the age of Palantir that largely means thinking about parallel informational infrastructure, setting up another internet or at least other communication systems.

If we want to preserve life saving information, information that aligns with reality over fascism information that is useful, beautiful and true to human beings and ugly and inconvenient to capital, first we have to make backups
