Not to be a leftist but I interpret this less as a "liberals are trying to take away our Christian right to be racist" and more that those who follow the teachings of Christ and try to dismantle and disrupt the systems of oppression that we live with will be persecuted by those who benefit from those systems of oppression and want to maintain them

So the Magnificast (everyone go listen to it, amazing podcast) has an episode on how usamerican imagined ‘anti-Christian bias’ is weaponized, and specifically mentioned the fact that Christians on the right are given a sort of martyr status when arrested for illegal actions (legalness =/= morality, butwe’re talking legalism rn) while non-conservative or leftist Christians who are arrested never have their Christianity recognized in their arrest.

When Trump created that Christian protection task force of his, one of the examples he cited as to why it was needed was the arrest of a group of Christians on the right who barricaded an abortion clinic. The group was arrested because they were trespassing, but more importantly, because of the fire safety violations and crowd crush risk they caused to the people in the building. Regardless of all of those safety violations, Trump insisted it was only because they were Catholic.

However, in another recent case, a Christian who sabotaged an oil pipeline because she felt it was her duty as a Christian to protect Native land was arrested and charged as an eco-terrorist. She explicitly stated through the process that her faith was the inspiration for her actions, but there was no defense from the government. No task force, no cries of persecution from the White House. No demand for her freedom. Just jail.

Both groups mentioned their Christianity as their inspiration to break the law, but only one arrest was seen as persecution. only one group was used to justify a government task force. Regardless on if you think one crime was or wasn’t acceptable, it is obvious that one group is benefiting politically from the myth of ‘anti-Christian persecution’ in the USA. One group is being supported by the government and backed by those in power, while insisting they are the martyrs.

In the global north and especially the usa, pretending that ‘leftism’ is successfully persecuting Christians in any meaningful way, like 2 Timothy 3:12–14 says in this image, is ridiculous and feeds into both dangerous a persecution complex and christofacism as a whole

one thing that keeps me in the catholic church is something my priest told me when i was talking to him during confession about my frustration with hateful and harsh catholics / christians. it went along the lines of, "their hearts are merely misguided. together with the right people, we can make the church holier."

the church may not be perfect, but the church is mine and i am a person who makes up the church. i must do my duty to bring love and compassion throughout my community and every person i get to interact with. i am more than just a person of the church, i am someone who can provide to make a change.

There is so much spiritual fruit to be found in the psychosis and delusions of others, so much Godliness to be found in madness— people like Joan of Arc and Hildegard of Bingen and Catherine of Siena were touched by God and madness. They experienced a divine psychosis that carries/carried significant spiritual fruits, so maybe instead of locking up every person you see whose religious experiences are a little too schizo for you, etc, you let them decide what relationship they want to have with the divine and their mental health, and let that spiritual fruit rest to be eaten by themselves or others, or left to decay over time.

there is nobody who self-victimises more than fellow Christians who get offended and feel attacked when those of other Faiths and atheists don't want to be evangelised to. grow up. you are a westerner, living in relative peace and prosperity, compared to other parts of the world. no one will kill you for your Faith. and even if their words are intended to cause harm, think about why that is – why religion might have hurt them so much that they are now against religious people too (or maybe you are just that annoying) – and strive to be a good person

Do you ever stop and realize that Jesus and Judas both died while hanging from a tree?

Jesus, betrayed, crucified to the cross. Whether you follow the tradition of it being carved from wood or a literal (altered or not) tree as in some older traditions, he was left alone and suspended there, arms outstretched, bearing the sins of the world. Bearing Judas’ sin.

Judas, betrayer, killed by his own hand via hanging. Alone and suspended, but his posture is slumped, his neck broken (or, worse, having endured the slow suffocating death which occurs when the noose fails to break your spine). Driven to the grave by his own grief and horror at what he had done. A broken man in need of redemption whose redeemer was dead thanks to his own actions. Repentant but hopeless.

For a moment, before Christ’s body was removed, maybe they both hung there together. Lifeless, cold, grieving.

Do you think Judas broke down when he saw Christ in heaven? Do you think he sank to the ground and begged for forgiveness? Do you think he just stood there, feeling as if there was nothing he could say to make things better, refusing to even make eye contact? Do you think his heart shattered when Jesus embraced him? When he forgave him?

I like to imagine Judas forgiven. Sitting with his friend, whom he betrayed, restored to his side. Sheepishly awaiting the rest of the disciples. And Jesus there, content to have restored the betrayer now that it is finished.
