Umbilicaria lyngei
Puckered rocktripe lichen
This umbilicate-foliose lichen grows in roundish, singular, up to 3.5 cm broad lobes attached to the substrate by a single, central holdfast. The upper surface is wrinkled-reticulate, dark-brown to black with pale pruina frosting the reticulate ridges, and the lower surface is black. It only rarely produces apothecia, which are black with gryrose discs. U. lyngei grows on rock in arctic and occasionally alpine North America.

Me when I see the word beaʃte
In my head: ah! The archaic form of the letter s! Being a casual scholar of linguistics myself I am well aware that though it resembles the letter f in modern typography in fact it is phonetically identical to s! How foolish it would be to stumble into such a simple lexiconical pitfall!

Vegan French Panade with Radicchio, Butter Beans & Sage
Born out of necessity, panade was a way to stretch meals — turning stale bread into something nourishing and substantial. Historically, Panade was a poor man’s dish, made from little more than bread and broth. The flavors varied depending on where you were.
