I've been calling to you for some time. And now here I am, and you can rest. I am the quiet you've been longing for. After all the garishness of life, the jostling, the clawing, the dull thrum of desperation in you. Will I get the fixes I need to be somebody? But, Daniel, you already know who you'll be. An ugly duplex back in Modesto. A job in an office with drab carpets and flickering lights. A woman in the mold of your mother, vacuuming on valium. A genteel drinking problem, like your father. Your wife counting down your thrusts. Your children shying away from you. All the confidence and hope of your youth replaced by a seething, boiling regret. Until one day, you're at a traffic light. The light turns green, horns honking. You don't move. Horns honking. You don't move. A comfortable chair in a room that slants to the north. An easeful death. Rest. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It'll feel like a bath. Rest. Like honey on your tongue. It is the comfort we all long for. The end. Rest. Come. Come. I'll hold you, you rest now. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE AMC Episode 12 - Don't Be Afraid, Just Start The Tape
if these conversations went the way they did in the books
I’m sick and tired of found families we need more found toxic workplace environments
Okay, you know what? I am just going to say it. I want fully unhinged Armand when it comes to Daniel and their past.
I want him to go "I let go of you, my love, to save you" with his I couldn't prevent it tone and Daniel to laugh cruelly and say "you didn't let go of shit, pal".
I want a scene where Daniel slowly uncovers, in like a saw movie twist, that it wasn't just a 12 year relationship that he erased from his memories....
But also that he would show up every time Louis would go away, or whenever Daniel was a little too happy with his life and family, that they have had MULTIPLE different relationships and affairs.
That it was Armand who helped ruin his marriages. That Armand owned the publishing houses that he used for his books. That he would wake up in the middle of the night and the sleep paralysis demon was Armand. That Armand is his landlord and owns every single building Daniel has ever lived in.
That Daniel somehow owns huge lots of land and property and a fucking Island all under his name all bought by Armand. That there are a couple of wearhouses filled with copies of his books that Armand bought to keep him in the New York's best selling list for a few more weeks.
That when he relapsed it was Armand who was his dealer (clean drugs). He was another junkie who made sure he wouldn't overdose. His secretary for a month. His one night stand. His student over and over every time he agreed to give a class. A producer for his master class.
That maybe everyone in his life has met him in one way or another. That he was one of his daughter's university friends. That he was one of his wife's colleagues. I want him to look at old family vacation albums and find him in the background
I want Daniel to slowly realize that when he looks back to his human life after 1973, Armand is there, somehow, somewhere, a shadow, his long slender fingers all over everything.
hadestown x byler bcuz they are SO Orpheus and Eurydice
"Don't tease me," Ilya said, "I have waited too long for this." "Mm." Shane opened the front of Ilya's shorts and playfully nipped at his chest. "Months." - Heated Rivalry, Chapter Twenty-Three
I think this is actually like a really critical moment that explains the dynamic between Shane and Ilya that gets lost sometimes in the fact that we just don’t get as much of Shane’s interiority. But Shane had literally no idea that Ilya wanted to be in Shane’s space, in Shane’s bed. Ilya has been like gold medal Olympic level yearning in his head, but because of his own fears around vulnerability and Shane’s insecurity/inexperience/inability to read cues literally none of that is coming across. I think it’s a fair read to say that Shane doesn’t think he’s been keeping Ilya out. He thinks he’s doing the bare minimum to protect himself (both his public reputation and his private feelings/dignity) in a situation where Ilya just sees him as an easy hookup. And they go past each other with this a bunch in Heated Rivalry before they land on the same page.
And it’s important bc in The Long Game we get so much of Ilya’s desires and fears and wants and grief and uncertainty, and we also get a lot of him talking about how he doesn’t want to share it with Shane, he doesn’t want to talk about it yet. So there’s of course the inconsistency of Shane asking Ilya about his emotional state and suggesting therapy but not actually ever thinking about it, and dismissing when Ilya reaches out. But it’s also worth noting that Shane thinks they are on the same page about coming out, and Ilya is hiding things from him. And we don’t actually know why Shane is missing things or being weird about stuff bc we don’t get any description of his thought process but one could infer that part of it is just that he quite literally can’t read Ilya’s mind.
Another interesting parallel with this is the tuna melt scene vs the coming out fight in The Long Game. In both cases Ilya makes a decision about the emotional trajectory of their relationship and acts on it instead of talking it through, and then gets mad/hurt when Shane is surprised/acts based on his understanding of where their relationship in that moment. And in both cases Shane is defensive and doesn’t have the bravery or the facility to just be like wait wtf is happening here, but the important thing to remember is that Shane is not the only person in either of those moments who fucks up, for lack of a better term.
Their story is largely about miscommunication stemming from both sides, because they both have hang ups and insecurity that keep them from communicating effectively and/or being able to read the other person.

After hollanov is outed and shane becomes a centaur some random fan admits that back in 2008 they paid an etsy witch to make the ottawa centaurs the best team in the league and at first they thought they had been scammed but now they realize that this created the domino effect that had shane hollander and ilya rozanov falling in love and then eventually joining the team and winning them back to back stanley cups
