As someone who was a teenager during the 00s, it really does feel like the current wave of extreme skinniness and ozempic chic is even worse than the shit that was shoved down our throats back in the day ngl.
Like, don't get me wrong. It was BAD. I'm not at all downplaying the misogyny and fatphobia from back then by looking back at those day through rose tinted lenses. Absolutely not. Once more; the 00s were HORRIFIC culturally in those areas.
But this feels somehow worse. The level of emaciated, cadaveric thinness being propagandized is even more extreme now if you ask me.

what really fucks me up about watching the truman show in 2025 is how it's not fictional. truman is fictional, but the truman show isn't.
there's thousands of truman shows. you find them on youtube, tiktok, instagram... family and mommy vloggers, sad beige moms and now the trend of neglectful moms showing the "reality" of parenting. all of them using their kids for entertainment. each child their own truman; living a life manufactured by their parents, a camera watching their every moment, broadcasted for the entire world to see.
