Dean Loving the Ladies Over the Years ~ part 1 ➣ For my Posse. I love you all so much! 💗
the thing about Dean is that he would not wear a french maid outfit but. he would hang a french maid pinup in the kitchen. and he would zone out staring at it every time he washed the dishes.
Oh actually 1x08 Bugs has already started very interesting in terms of revealing more about Sam and Dean's dynamic, first scene with the brothers has Dean counting his money made hustling while Sam researches cases in the Impala and Sam is very quick to judge Dean for how he earned that money. And later, as they're investigating the case and Dean sees that there's a neighborhood bbq where they can talk to the locals, Sam very quickly and once again judgementally points out that the 'free food' is what's drawing Dean in. I know later in the episode we get a Sam parallel with the kid victim of the week, who is a social outcast and has a strained relationship with his father, but this isn't an episode just about Sam's childhood. There's a reason Dean is good at hustling for 'easy money' as he says. There's a reason Dean is attracted to the promise of free food. And there's a reason that Sam is averse and judgemental of both these instances.
Dean was a primary caregiver for Sam, his job since he was 4 years old was to look after his brother. We know John would leave them for stretches of time and Dean would have to hustle and steal to feed Sam from a young age. We also know from later episodes but can infer from Sam's reactions in 1x08, that Dean sheltered Sam a lot from the reality of living in transience. For Dean, hustling and taking advantage of resource opportunities are ingrained survival techniques, skills he honed and something he's proud of beneath the veneer of delinquency being 'fun and cool' because they kept him and his brother alive. For Sam, it's embarrassing, a reminder of where he came from and the fact that his childhood and family aren't 'normal'. And Sam has the privilege of taking this stance because Dean was the one making sacrifices* so he could stay in school, which lead to tertiary education, which lead to Sam being able to climb the socio-economic ladder, which in turn further reiterated Sam's belief in his childhood's shamefulness, something to hide as he strives to fit into his new normal.
i do think the internet would be a happier place if everyone admitted that the reason their blorbo man is their wife/princess/babygirl/whatever is because of a feminization kink. the related aspects of misgendering, humiliation, needing to "knock him up" are then rendered a fun kinky game, not a serious expression of anti-feminist beliefs about womanhood
which means bringing that play into serious circles is forcing people to be a part of your kink. somebody asking for examples of well written female characters does not want you to tag "dean winchester" please stop kicking your soccer ball into other people's windows

So, this is inspired by a why-choose suggestion, but twisted to make things a little more fun. It's devil's advocate week. I want you to defend/evangelize for/write for/generally talk about a headcanon or fandom opinion that you DON'T subscribe to. Find the good or interesting parts of an interpretation of the Winchesters that you don't think is true. And maybe we'll be able to find some fun ideas and AUs along the way.

This may not be completely in the spirit of this challenge, but I can link already-posted stories I've written that go against what I think is canon?
Another potentially unpopular opinion of mine: I don't think we have any textual evidence that Dean was sexually exploited by John ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
One of the main things pointed at as evidence is that Dean relates to Bela and, y'all, you don't have to have gone through the same kind of abuse to relate to other people with abusive childhoods. They jab at each other about hugs from their dads and in Bela's case she was sexually abused and in Dean's case we do have plenty of textual evidence that John was emotionally neglectful so yeah, Dean almost certainly didn't receive enough affection as a kid.
He was forced to grow up too fast, turned into a living weapon, and while there was undeniably emotional incest (put in a position of co-parenting and taking on the burden of managing the parent's emotions, etc), there's no evidence for physical incest imo
[I do think there's heavy implication John hit/beat Dean at least once]
Anyway, I'll reblog links to my fics where John is sexually abusive in a few minutes lmao

Now things are infinitely more complicated but the most important question still remains: how the fuck does one escape one of the best hunters in the business?

I would have told you that I’ve been right where you’re standing right now. Hearing things, even seeing things that can’t be explained. Maybe I would have been able to help out a little bit.
SUPERNATURAL, 03x14: Long-Distance Call
my personal (emphasis on PERSONAL) experience as a wincestie and Dean girl, who only barely even became a Dean girl because it was so hard to even choose between the two because i love both Dean and Sam so damn much, has been me seeing a lot of wincest-shipping Sam girls talk about how awful Dean girls are and how despicable and abusive and borderline irredeemable Dean is and how the writers supposedly "steal plot points from Sam for Dean" (whatever the fuck that means) and even claiming that Dean couldn't have ever possibly been parentified or physically or sexually abused/assaulted and just... yeah, you get the gist.
and it's just been so fucking wild to see as a still very new fan of the series because like, holy shit. how are we watching the same show? how are we not understanding that both of these men are fucked up and traumatized and toxic and maladjusted and abuse victims and why are we making that shit a competition about who had it worse? like it's just fiction and not that serious, sure, but it still just really fucking squicks me out.
and these takes are coming from some fans who also, otherwise, genuinely post some really cool ideas and content so it's not like i just wanna go on a huge ass blocking spree, not when i'm still figuring out how to integrate myself in a fandom that's still really new to me. but idk. this shit's really weird to me, y'all.
It's the gender essentialist (and heterosexist) radfem BS
They aren't allowed to relate to or like a man! Men are evil, and Good people don't sympathize with evil people!! Therefore if they --a Good Person, obvs-- do like or relate to a male character, then he must actually be A Woman (notice how prevalent misgendering Sam is among them? yeah.)
And if Sam is A Woman, then he's a Victim. And if Sam is The Woman/Victim in the relationship, then Dean is The Man and therefore --since men are evil-- a Perpetrator. And men always have all the power and therefore can't really be abused or traumatized themselves because then they'd be women ()
Basically, they have an incredibly reductive, (hetero)sexist view of how relationships work in general and are shoehorning Sam and Dean into it. The ideology is bigger than just their shipping
And you don't have to pick between the two brothers! I and plenty of others are bibro, meaning we like them equally or like them specifically as a unit :3
Welcome to the fandom/ship! My condolences 😆
k last post i gotta bitch but frankly supernatural makes no effort to make us believe that sam was at all shielded or raised well by dean. i know everybody loves the concept of dean raising little baby sam but i gotta be so real man he was like 4 he wasnt doing much ? even as he got older he was still just a kid. so while yes dean was parentified that doesnt mean much LMAO. sam has a pretty cynical view of their childhood and is clearly doesnt consider himself protected at all from The Horrors. yes dean and john held off on tellign sam about monsters but thats Really the same thing as protecting him. their father still left them alone for days at a time in shady motels. its just weird to me how the show (esp the earlier seasons) make the effort to show us that sam sees their childhood as messed up and john as a shit parent and people somehow insert in that dean somehow was doing a good job raising sam. what between nap time and snack ? (/ref)
at the end of the day it was a child looking after another child. thats not parenting and thats not raising. its survival. theres a post on here somewhwre that says that dean probably dropped sam when he spit up and i think of that all the time bcs its Hilarious thank u whoever u are
Oh yeah. Just because Dean did his best does not mean he did a good job. He was only four years older than Sam. The fact that Sam remembers it all more and more fondly as the show goes on, while Dean gets harsher about the truth of it, is fascinating because as Dean is becoming more honest about their childhood and their dad, Sam becomes more kind to Dean about his part in it. Like, Sam doesn't blame Dean for any of the shittiness in their childhood, and he shouldn't because again Dean was also just a kid. If anything, Sam wants to assure Dean that he recognized and appreciated everything that Dean did try to do for him. But like in the early seasons, Sam would be the one most likely to point out that Dean used to drop him, but in later seasons it would be Dean going, "Dude, I dropped you, a lot." And I just love that. The fandom though... the tendency to over simplify the characters makes me twitch.
“I had to be a father, I had to be a mother. All to keep him safe. And I couldn’t do it.”
Dean says it himself: AND I couldn’t do it. I think he means not only could he not keep Sam safe, he couldn’t be a father or a mother either.
Dean is only four years older than Sam, there’s no way he even was changing nappies let alone nurturing Sam in any way that could have made him feel safe.
And we know Dean used to dump Sammy at the clown restaurant and go pick up girls which is a totally normal teenage boy dick move to make but doesn’t put him in danger. Didn’t make him feel good either.
Dean’s understanding of ‘safe’ is different to Sam’s imo. I think Sam wanted normal and safe because he didn’t get the nurturing that people like to read into the mentions of their childhood. Dean had four years of Mary and a child’s understanding of what a mother was like, and twenty six years of John and a soldier’s understanding of what a father is like.
Dean might be able to make spaghettios (mother) and lock Sam down for his own safety (father) but I think Sam’s appreciation for Dean is the things that a brother would do. Getting him to hospital on his handlebars, sneaking him beers, sticking up for him at school. Buying him skin mags (brother(?)).
Dean is not a father figure to Sam. Sam and Dean had a father, for better or worse.
Sam’s recollections of John get kinder after he dies, and I think his memory of growing up with Dean get a little more rose tinted as a result. We know that even as a kid he was moved to give Dean the Samulet rather than John. Dean didn’t lie to Sam.
“We were just starting to be brothers again.”
just letting you know that dean making fun of sam's geeky rants is him trying to hide the fact that he gets extremely turned on by it. his little brother is the biggest nerd, and has an even bigger dick, and dean gets a little lightheaded just thinking about it. hope this helps <3
sam talking about the sigils in hell house (1x17) and dean responding with "that's exactly why you don't get laid" knowing full well, not even an hour ago, sam was rearranging his guts in the backseat of the impala smh

Best MM Ship Ever: GROUP 1 - Round 5
Immortal Husbands (Nicolo "Nicky" di Genova/Yusuf "Joe" Al-Kaysani) vs. Wincest (Sam/Dean Winchester)
The Old Guard - Immortal Husbands (Nicky/Joe)
Supernatural - Wincest (Sam/Dean)
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that it’s worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the president’s agenda.
What this means, and if anything I’m under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
Bringing back this guide to writing an effective public comment. This gives you the basics you need to know, what you need to include, a basic outline you can follow, etc.
Public comments are not a vote, it is a chance for you to say "here is an issue with this law I think you need to address" and provide justification for legal challenges if it goes forward:
"Comments raise the bar that agencies have to meet when making a rule; “if an agency fails to adequately respond to significant, relevant comments in a final rule, members of the public may seek to challenge the rule in court on that basis and claim it could be struck down.ˮ"
But also, if possible, don't stop at writing a comment. Don't stop at calling your representatives. You should ideally be talking to people in your community about this and organizing resistance on-the-ground; there is a good chance people are already doing that even if you aren't hearing about it.
Some added 101-level context from someone (me) who’s worked in federal grantmaking for 20 years and is literally certified on this document - this is a document that governs all federal grantmaking. It’s been around for over a decade and is a mega-document that combine multiple previous smaller documents that have been around for ages. It is updated every few years and generally the updates are minor - a notable change in the previous update was raising the small procurement threshold from $10,000 to $15,000 for example. Deeply dry boring minutiae that no one outside of federal grantmakers need concern themselves with. It was also federal GUIDELINES, which means there was flexibility.
This year’s is different. They are now federal REQUIREMENTS, which means there’s no flexibility. As was said previously, the 400 pages are not singularly devoted to being absolute shitheads to trans people. Theres a lot of stuff in there, some of which is the standard dry boring grants stuff, some of which is the horrible ideological warfare outlined above.
This document is issued by the OMB, the Office of Management and Budget, which is currently lead by fucking Russell Vought, the principal architect of Project 2025. This is how they’re going to implement all the horrible shit in there that wasn’t covered by Executive Order. Russell Vought is actively coming for my job, my marriage, and my kid, and most of my friends lost their jobs last year because of him. He is the fucking arch villain behind the heinous shit the current regime is doing.
So yes, please comment. You don’t have to read all 400 pages before doing so, it’s dry and dense as fuck, but I thought this information might be helpful. Also, while there is a public comment period, this isn’t voted on by Congress. The OMB just fucking issues it. Pressuring your elected officials into publicly saying “hey what the fuck are you doing here” is good, though.
Please note the comment period is open through JULY 13th, not JUNE 13th. I saw a lot of relogs yesterday saying "last day!" and I just want to say it is very much not too late.
As of today, 7/8/26, we have five days for public commentary on this to go through. I am begging y'all: if you care about independent science in the country that produces the most global science funding in the world, please leave a comment.
no one can take that much pain and not break. no one.
I was so excited to get this email that I screenshotted it. Thank you!
