It's truly strange how many ableists claim to be fans of Mr. Robot and will misconstrue the entire plot because they can't accept that the show is about a disabled person's disability. I tried explaining to someone that the entire show is based off of Elliot's Dissociative Identity Disorder and they told me to "go to hell". No, Elliot was not in a coma the entire time and imaging everything that happened, or whatever bullshit excuse you want to make for completely ignoring every single reference to DID because you are ableist. His therapist literally said word for word that he has DID, and if you still didn't understand it at that point you are deliberately ignoring the character's disability because you are ableist.

i love when you guys send me asks like "do you think x inspired mr robot?" bc the answer is always yes. you know how literary critics say "the ultimate version of a genre arrives at the end of its lifespan, and is half parody?", like how don quixote was The End of chivalric romance?

to me thats mr robot. a parodic mishmash of a genre that begins sometime in the 90s and is a self-obsessed-yet-self-aware, vaguely anti-capitalist, vaguely anti-american genre of work that derides modern society while also being pessimistic about a genuine alternative. american psycho, fight club, oz, sopranos, the wire, better call saul, mr robot...

and ironically all of these series end just before their critiques hit mainstream consciousness in the real world. oz ends just before the war on terror and subsequent american military posts/torture centres/prisons televised how carceral control and moralizing is central to justifying empire. sopranos ended just before the 2008 collapse, which was made inevitable by greed and white collar crime and the collusion between the law and capital. mr robot ended just before the epstein files started to drop, revealing there is indeed a selection of affluent billionaires and politicians operating with impunity through the banal daily control over shipping and receiving, online algorithms, IP laws, manufactured instability after geopolitical conflict....

and then in retrospect these series are lauded as "predictive" or "ahead of their time" when they were just feeling the pulse of the culture that was obvious to anyone actually looking. lol

I have a soft spot for Krista - not just because she cared enough to stick around for Elliot even when she really shouldn’t have, but also because she reminds me a lot of my own therapist.

Not every mental health professional is perfect, and it might take a bit of time until you find one who really clicks with you, but having that kind of objective, unconditional support makes a huge difference - especially for those with severe, deeply buried trauma like Elliot (And me).

Shoutout to all the dedicated Kristas out there who work so hard to help people like me heal and move forward with their lives.

I saw your reply to an ask talking about the Mr robot ARG, and when you were talking about the S1 arg being based around the game , you reminded me that I still have it downloaded on my old Samsung phone , and I have the .apk file for it and such, it’s quite fun. And you reaaaaally have to wait a while for each part of the game, it plays out over the span of real-life days. It was really fun!

in mr. robot, mobley's real name is revealed to be sunil markesh in season 2.

looking it up, sunil as a name means something like deep blue.

look familiar?

the blue screen of death is/was a deep blue! interesting, considering the show has used blue tones for character deaths, mainly tyrell wellick. and of course the show about anarchist hackers would use computer metaphors. it has. i mean, the entire kernel panic episode is right there.

additionally, as this reddit post points out, markesh means something like a period of rough times, aligning with his less brave personality.

is this me coping about a character that died ten years ago? yeah. but to that i say SHUT UP
