Another Week, Another Run
Just finished another run with the Mad Hatters Running Club! It is the start of week 5ā¦halfway through the Learn to Run program!! We did 4 minutes of running and 1 minute of walking, 6 times. I didnāt personally track it on my phone but my husband did. He clocked 4.49Ā km in 37 minutes. I was a bit behind him so I probably did a little less than that.. I really need something to hold my phone while I run.. I have no yoga pants with pockets and I donāt like wearing a jacket in the warm weather. I definitely need to order an arm band or something!
I felt like death during this run.. I am just getting over a cold, so this was my first run since last Wednesday.. And boy can I feel it! Missing runs really puts me behind!
One thing I can really relate to is the quote āI run, I may be slower than Internet Explorer on a 90s Internet connection.. But I run!ā Today I was the last one in the group, and most days I am near the back, but I still run. I still keep going. I donāt walk or quit.. I keep moving. And I am seeing huge gains in my endurance. I think back to 2 years ago when fitnessmeetsgirl and I did a 5Ā km run for breast cancer.. We did it in over well over 1 hour! Now I am running 4.49 in about 40 minutes!
I am going to keep going! I was told by our running experts in the club that beginners need to go by minutes not miles.. Thatās hard to do.. I am always looking to see how far we have gone. But it does make sense to keep my minutes in check.. The longer I can run, the better.. The distance will obviously follow!
Anyways.. I plan on doing run 2 tomorrow since my Backstreet Boys concert is on Wednesday!!!!!
Well I need to quit neglecting my Tumblr!!! Iām proud to say my neglection has not followed over into my fitness life. I will admit I havenāt been pushing myself as hard as I should.. But I have hit a few goals and have made progress on the running front! I just need to incorporate some strength workouts and some yoga sessions to round it out!
So an update⦠Iāve been religiously following the Learn to Run program I talked about in my last post. We just finished week 4! We are doing 3 minutes of running followed by 1 minute of walking 6Xs. I didnāt track myself this week.. But I have a gauge of how far I ran based on the fact that the trail by my house is 2.5kms and I ran almost double that tonight!! I didnāt do the group runs this week like I usually do because life decided to mess that up. I got sick so I had to switch up the days I run!
Iāve been loving this group!!! Running as a large group is way more fun and motivating then on your own. Theyāve taken me to trails I didnāt even know existed in Medicine Hat!! Itās awesome! So glad my hubby and I joined!
My endurance has increased dramatically! Theyāve taught me a lot about the act of running and have made me much more self aware of how I run and how to make my running more efficient. I highly recommend joining a running club! Especially one that offers a learn to run program like this.. All volunteers dedicated to running and to inspiring others to love to run!
So this week my plan is to continue my program. I have one more run to get in this week before we move on to 4 minutes of running 1 minute of walking next week! Iām also planning on doing Stairs Sunday or Saturday with fitnessmeetsgirl hopefully the weather behaves!!
That will fill my weekend.. Now next week Monday will be learn to run night, Tuesday will be run 2 for the week on my own, Wednesday is my BACKSTREET BOYS CONCERT!!!! So screaming my but off and dancing insanely and acting like a 10 year old will be my workout :D. Thursday Iām taking it easy since Iāll be out late and work in the morning. Thatās all my plans go up to. Itās the long weekend so there will be dog walks and more running and stairs involved!
Since next week is kinda of thrown off by my concert Iāll make a better plan for the following week.. One that includes Yoga and some strength workouts! I need to get some weight off and gain some muscles!
Thanks for the post neverregretasecond, it made me remember my Tumblr world!!! :)
Hiatus
I've taken a bit of a hiatus from Tumblr. Life has just gotten so busy I haven't had the time to update my progress on here! That being said, I have nothing good to report about my progress. Aside from walking my dog, I haven't fit in a legit workout in about 1.5-2 weeks. Ugh. No good!!! My eating has been decent though, nothing too bad apart from some pizza last week and an ice cream this week. Everything in moderation is what I say! However with no real hard workouts I still feel guilty eating those things... Oh well! I'll get back on it. The reason I've been so busy is because we have officially listed our place to sell!! We have been cleaning like crazy people, moving some stuff over to the in laws to declutter our space, cleaning up our small country of a backyard, and also looking a houses with our realtor. I've literally been busy every night since last Saturday! I must say.. If you want to keep a clean house, try selling it! It will be spotless always lol. I'm thankful we do not have kids during this experience! 2 grown adults can keep a space clean with minimal stress..kids on the other hand are like drunk crazy people haha. :P Anyways, on the fitness front.. I do have plans to get back into things! The Mad Hatters Running Club of Medicine Hat are putting on a program called Learn to Run. It starts next Monday. They take you around to different trails in Medicine Hat and will teach you how to run correctly. I am too intimidated to join to official club yet as they are all die hard runners and I don't think I could keep up to the big group.. This will be a nice stepping stone to joining the regular club. It will also keep my accountable and will help my running out in the long run :) I'm very excited! I'm also counting the days down (not really.. But kinda) until GoodLife fitness opens up in Medicine Hat. Since I work for Alberta Health Services, my hubby and I will get a discount there! It is closer to us then the YMCA so no excuses! Well that's my update. I'm not going to stop and fall off the wagon entirely.. I just need a little push to get myself back up there. Have a great Thursday.. Almost the weekend!!!!! Woohoo!!
Nearly three years ago, this was one of the very first recipes I created on my journey to being healthy. Itās been tweaked and adjusted since then and today Iām happy to say I think Iāve gotten the recipe perfect. Iāve seen so many recipes calling for frozen green veggies to replace avocado but here I use beans because they not only cut down the fat and add protein, but also because theyāre the right texture. When blended theyāre creamy and smooth but donāt have enough flavor of their own to overpower the avocado, lime, & fresh cilantro. On top of that, this recipe still has plenty of fresh avocado so youāre not missing a thing! I made this over the weekend to put in my quinoa burrito bowl jars (recipe going up tomorrow) but itās great on crunchy veggies, on a salad, or anywhere else you like to use guac!
Nom Nom Nom
Just feeling good in my red leggings, cheetah tank top (finally nice enough!) and sock bun. :)
As a fitblr I often see people talking about egg whites and how great they are and how bad egg yolks are. NO. It breaks my heart to think of all the nutrients of the egg yolk being discarded into eggy heaven.Ā
Egg yolks are good!Ā
Nutrients in a yolk: Egg yolks are jam packed with fat soluble nutrients these include: Vitamins A, D, E, K and carotenoids. These help you boost your immune system, keep your bones, teeth, and skin healthy, reduce the effects of diabetes, and help you reduce the risk of cancer.Ā
Also: Yolks have loads of Zinc, Calcium, Folate and vitamin B12. All of which are super important for you.Ā
But, but, but eggs are full of cholesterol! Yes, but you need this cholesterol! Cholesterol is needed in the body as it is the building block of hormones, also cholesterol helps repair damaged cells in the body. Cholesterol that comes from processed, super fatty food is bad for you, so donāt go out and eat tons of fried food. When it comes from this incredible egg it is not!Ā
Additionally: Eating only egg whites can cause a biotin deficiency, biotin is the vitamin that gives us strong nails and beautiful hair!Ā
In conclusion: EAT THE WHOLE EGG. It is only 70 calories for one XL egg. It is amazing for you. Tastes great. Now I am not saying go make yourself 20 eggs to make up for your lack of yolky days, but do not be afraid to incorporate into your diet.Ā
I know Iāve posted on eggs before but here you go, as a reminder.
I need to start eating whole eggs again!

Gordon Ramsay is my favorite.
i just want to hug all of them
Fun story. I cooked for this dude, once. I did my kitchen apprenticeship at the family-style restaurant of one of New Zealandās premiere chefs, and he knew Ramsay really well. He was in New Zealand for a few weeks, and Martin brought him by the restaurant to check it out. It was right on the beach, fucking gorgeous. I was the only one there (apprentice = bitch work = 4am starting shifts), and they asked me to whip up some breakfast for them. It was SUPER simple, fried fish, eggs cooked in bread, sausages. He was incredibly gracious and kind, asked me to join them (I couldnāt, too much work to do, so they sat at the kitchen window so they could talk to me), and was super interested in hearing about my english grandma, who had taught me how to cook. I wonāt hear a single bad word against this man, for all of his kitchen hysterics, he treated me like an equal.

If youāre not in the Gordon Ramsay fandom youāre wrong.
I love Gordon!
I put together these plans to be accessible for all levels of runners. Whether youāre just starting out or youāve been running for years, I hope these plans will help you set and attain your goals. After that you should pick EITHER speed or distance depending on what your goals are (for example do you want to run your fastest 5k or are you shooting for a half marathon?).
Cross training days should be something non strenuous that helps with aerobic endurance. I highly suggest biking or yoga which will help you build strength and stamina without overtaxing the muscles you rely on for running. Remember to listen to your body and take the rest days you need!
I also highly recommend making charts for your progress! No matter what your goal is- time, distance, minutes run v. walked- find a way to visualize your progress! One of my favorite daily rewards is being able to input my mile times (Iām working on speed) and see how theyāre improving run to run! :)
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THISĀ
These look good!
I love sleep, because itās like a time machine to breakfast.

Stop hating yourself. Try going one day without saying anything bad about yourself. Try complimenting yourself. Do it again. Buy yourself dinner. Put soft things against your skin. Listen to your favorite songs. Eat ice cream. Eat ice cream naked. You have to spend the rest of your life with you. Youāre all youāve got. Be kind, start loving yourself.
Love yourself. It's the most important thing to do!
Nom.
thank you, fitsugar.
Need to try this!!
Intense.
Monday.
Yay. Monday is basically over with. Gotta love that! So today was a good day, minus the fact that I have something wrong with my eyelid.. Itās all red and sore. It has been on and off like this since I went swimming a couple weeks ago. I got off work early and went to the Dr.. Got some cream so hopefully that helps. It sucks a lot :(
Anyways hereās what Iāve been thinking:
~I am loving how happy I am with myself. I have finally learned to just love myself. All of it. My body may not be perfect but itās mine. It does a lot for me and is beautiful!! I love keeping it healthy and also love to indulge it in my favorite things every once in awhile! I am going to keep on working out, fuelling it with good food, water, happiness, and joy.
~I love the comments my husband makes about my body and myself in general. He always does this, Iām a lucky lucky girl to have such a loving husband who loves my body and thinks Iām the sexiest woman ever(if that sounds vain..I donāt care haha). I used to say things like āyouāre lieingā or āyouāre blinded by love!ā But Iām realizing that is stupid. Mega stupid. If someone compliments you, especially your husband, accept it. He wouldnāt lie to you ever. At least mine wouldnāt. I tell him how sexy he is all the time..and I know Iām not lieing so why assume he is?!
~I seriously love my job! Itās not even a job. I sometimes have to think to myself..āI canāt believe Iām actually getting paid to do this!!ā I love love love it! The only small thing I donāt enjoy is waking up super early (5 am) because I have an hour commute every morning. That could go away haha. Iām so thankful and happy to have found a career, using the education I have. :)
~I canāt wait for summer! My job employs me from Sept-June every year.. Meaning I get summers off! Originally, I was going to work over the summer. But after inquiring about unemployment.. Iāve decided to go on that for the 2 months Iāll have off. Ill get around 70% of my income now.. Which will be about the same, if not more, then the summer job I was going to work. Itās one of those things where I pay into it and have yet to ever use it in the 10 years Iāve been working in my life. This will be my first summer off since I was in Jr high school! Since I was freaking 14 years old Iāve worked my butt off all summer! Woo-hoo!!
Well Iāll quit boring you :) Iām just happy happy happy on this Monday evening!
