It’s also the respected academic term?? The acronym isn’t static and it’s usage is varied by things like generational difference, location, and knowledge of the community. Even just in the U.S. in the last few decades the common usage gone from GLBT to LGBT to LGBTQ, to LGBTQA/LGBTQIA/LGBTQIAP/etc (Which, let me tell you as someone who has given presentations in the past using these updated acronyms, are all real mouthfulls), to LGBT+.

Also yes, queer is more inclusive! Especially coming at it from an academic standpoint, people didn’t always use or identify with the terms we use now and you can’t always try to cram them into our modern perceptions of sexuality. We can argue for years about whether a famous historical figure was gay or bisexual or straight and trans or whatever, but if we can all agree that they were somehow queer then using that term allows us to move past the debate and into productive discussion. And not everybody everywhere shares the same terms for sexual and gender identity, or even the same concepts of those things, so queer really is a more inclusive term in a lot of cases.

Like yeah if you’re talking specifically about gay or trans people you can just say gay or transgender, but if you’re talking about more than one identity or someone who doesn’t conform to our perceptions of ‘LGBT,’ or a person or people whose identity you don’t know, queer is just the better word.

I don’t know if this is just because I’m not American but I’ve never heard queer used as a slur. Ever. Meanwhile gay was the insult in the 2000s here. Everything you didn’t like was ‘soo gay’. Queer wasn’t even a word most of us knew back then.

It just baffled me that people would think an identifier is automatically a slur just because someone uses it to mock someone. If we did that gay would be a slur. Stupid would be a slur. Autistic would be a slur.

The reason people are upset about the word queer is that it’s a unifying term. You can say you’re queer and all people will know is that you’re part of the community. Disney has trademarked the names of a bunch of Norse gods.

This is not okay.

These gods do not belong to Disney. They do not belong to Marvel. They belong to themselves and themselves alone, along with all those who worship them as the deities they are.

Thor, Loki, Odin, etc., these gods were not thought up by anyone at Disney or Marvel.

Stan Lee knew how sacred these gods are to those who follow many different Pagan traditions, how sacred they are to Scandinavian cultures to whom they are so important.

My best friend follows the Norse gods. She will be so bloody offended when she finds out about this. These are her gods, this is her religion. These are the deities she worships, the gods she prays to, the traditions she follows. She enjoys the Marvel portrayals of these characters, but they are separate from the gods she believes in.

Disney is stepping on her religion in an effort to gain more and more money.

Stan Lee did not trademark these names. He understood their importance and their sacred meaning. He was respectful enough not to do this.

These names are not the intellectual property of anyone. Neither the original names in runes nor the anglicised names that are used in Marvel's works.

They were around well before us (a whole ass millennium before us), and they will be around well after the greedy bastards who have decided to trademark religious symbols are dust.

It should be common sense and common courtesy not to trademark the names of religious figures, which all of these gods and goddesses are, even if you do not believe in them.

Reading this kind of made me realize something about myself; all these All men are trash posts have given me internalized transphobia. I Actively hate myself for not being cis. For giving up womanhood to join the side of evil. And it’s not like i hate any other trans people, yall are great, it’s just me, and it’s my first time really realizing what internalized transphobia feels like or means. What makes it worse is this is something TERFs what. For those (lucky) few who have avoided TERFs, they are Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists.   They hate Trans Men for betraying woman by becoming part of the problem and they hate Trans Woman for being Men “pretending” to be woman to hurt them. They’re the kind of people making all the “If we let trans woman use the right bathroom they’ll assault cis woman!!!” stuff. Trashy people who think trashy things that only hurt people. But they made me have their ideology.  So, how many people in the above screenshots are TERFs or Radfem? 3. And those are only the ones who say it on their blogs. 3 out of 5 of the screenshots are from TREFs or Redfem and these are just the first few post i saw when I searched up “All Men are Trash.” This shit is everywhere I feel awful I hate myself They won I hope you all are happy

I have a friend who is constantly racked with guilt about being attracted to women since he started transitioning because posts like this have taught him that men’s attention to women is always predatory. I have friends who are cis dudes who feel the same way. I have a transfemme friend who constantly questions whether they are actually just fetishizing women because being “socialized male” means they can never unlearn the predatory nature of their AGAB.

This sort of thinking also trains straight and bi women to expect to get treated like shit by their partners instead of believing that men are compassionate, kind, generous people who should be expected to treat their partners well.

And, not to get all “what about cis people” on this but there are young teen boys on this blogging platform who are learning that they are “trash” simply for looking at or being attracted to women and there are adult men on this platform who are  trying to turn themselves inside out to try to “make up” for their maleness and framing men as terrible, unsafe, selfish, bad people is the exact kind of gender essentialist bullshit that says all women are compassionate and good communicators and naturally maternal caregivers.

It’s crap! It’s garbage!

You can write off all cops as bad because they all looked at an abusive, corrupt system and went “I want to be a part of that.”

If you write off “men,” the type category, fifty fucking percentish of the goddamned species, as trash you’re looking at a little boy or a black father or an autistic teen or a gay pensioner or even just a totally run of the mill cis straight white dude and saying “you were born wrong.”

ALSO all of this bullshit broadcasts and spreads the idea that women must always be protected from men (which is exactly how JK Rowling justifies her transmisogyny) which does NOTHING to accomplish the equality that feminism is nominally about.

“Men are trash” and “kill all men lol” is a memeified, gender-swapped version of Mike Fucking Pence refusing to meet with women unsupervised because they might contaminate or tempt him. 

And it *also* paves over the shitty, rapey, abusive, power imbalanced, oppressive things that women do. “If men are trash and women aren’t then clearly the abuse or sexual assault I’m suffering from my female partner must be *different* in some way because she’s not harming me through patriarchy or oppression.”

The "men are trash" posts are exactly how many boys/men get sucked into supremacy groups.

When young boys see those posts everywhere and start to get (rightfully) upset, the most "understanding" groups seem to be ones that are proud of being men. They're told that they're special or superior in some way and after such a blow to their confidence, they want to believe it. They're told to read books written by women exposing how "manipulative" women are. It becomes an obsession and that pride becomes rampant misogyny.

You are helping to create the problem. You are kicking a dog and yelling "I told you so!" when it bites.

My country (Perú) is in danger, our democracy is in grave danger, our last president was ousted for allegations of corruption and while we agree that he should be investigated, we were against the vacancy.

The congress is hiding behind our constitution to make it seem that what they did was legal. They ousted the president for ‘moral incapacity’, the problem is that nothing was proved so it shouldn’t be possible, not only that, but last month they tried to do the same.

Before they voted for the vacancy, there were only 60 congressmen in favor but suddenly there were 105 who voted on favor, now they’re starting to talk, there were deals made and also threats against some of them, telling them that there wouldn’t be votes in favor their projects if they didn’t vote like them.

Our new “president”, who from now on I will call the usurper, was also the president of the congress who tried before to get the armed forces on his side, doesn’t have studies, and has open processes against him. He was not chosen by us to lead the country, only 5,000 people voted for him on the congress elections, the peruvian population is of 30 millions

Not only that, but 68 out of 130 congressmen have open processes that go from money laundering to straight up murder. The new president of the congress has 52 criminal charges.

This exactly is why the congress ousted our last president, he was doing reforms to the congress so there wouldn’t be impunity, he also called for elections on April.

We’re only 5 months away from the elections.

The congress talks that they did what they did because it was their moral obligation. We know this isn’t true, they did it because the president was against their populist laws that in the end would only damage the population and now that he’s out, they can do it freely.

In the 3 days since they ousted our president, they already are trying to modify the university education reform and the SUNEDU an institution that makes sure that our education is of quality and has been closing universities that didn’t make the cut, most of them were just taking money from their students or were just money laundering, two of this “universities” are owned by two congressmen.

Other thing that one party wants to do is to free their leader Antauro Humala from prison. This man was the brother of a former president who didn’t pardon him in his term and has tried to get free for years now, but our justice system and our national assembly has not let him. Why is he dangerous? Well he’s been sentences for insurrection, homicide, aggravated kidnapping, and other including a case called ‘Andahuaylazo’ where 4 policemen were killed. And since his party voted for the ousting, they are going to ask the usurper for a pardon.

The usurper has now elected his cabinet, the premier is a man who has called our people vicuñas and llamas, has said that femicides shouldn’t be apart from a homicide because it usually happens when they are trying to mug them or it’s their fault for cheating, he also has conflict of interests. He was a minister before, but he had to step down because of a conflict he was involve in enden up with the death of 24 indigenous people.

This brings us to yesterday 12/11/2020 (11/12/2020 for you USA). MILLIONS of peruvians took the streets in different parts of the country and in other countries too, we did this since day 1 but the one from yesterday was massive.  

It was a pacific protest, we were chanting and protesting against the usurper and the congress, nobody was violent until the police started attacking us.

There are more photos and videos but some of them are too strong, the police not only repressed us, they attacked journalists and paramedics, they didn’t let the firemen help our the wounded 

There were undercover cops trying to stir the protestors but got mad when we realized who they were so they shot us.

The democratically elected president, Vizcarra, was accused of “moral incapacity” relating to alleged bribes. He was impeached on Mon 9 Nov 2020

Nearly every ex-president has been implicated in the Odebrecht (construction company) corruption charges of 2018. It’s huge scandal across multiple countries, check it out on Wikipedia

Even if the charges against Vizcarra were true, they are not the true motivation for impeaching him; people realise this and are protesting for democracy, not because they think Vizcarra is amazing

There are right-wing parties with links to Odebrecht corruption and the nationalist coup of 2005 who have been trying to get into power. The current president, Merino, is from this background. He also has military links, which is worrying

The supposedly left-wing party, UPP, was the main party promoting the impeachment. UPP was co-founded by a guy who was secretary-general of the United Nations. Its other co-founder, Vega, is the current leader, and the current party is basically top union bureaucracy merged with a nationalist party

The left coalition party, Frente Amplio, also supported the impeachment. These guys represent left reforms under capitalism, so sort of the equivalent of Greece’s Syriza party

One thing that OP left out is Peru’s incredibly high mortality rate. Official figures do not represent the full extent of the situation. It is therefore important to all parties that the public don’t get too angry and take matters into their own hands. People fear army intervention

Protests are taking place in Lima, but also across the country, especially in industrial cities, where mortality has been high and conditions bad

As OP said, 68 of the 130 politicians who voted to impeach Vizcarra have themselves been accused of corruption and are banned from running for office again!

The US State Department issued a statement, including, “As a region of democracy and prosperity, we call on Peruvians to continue to pursue their political ends via a peaceful, lawful, democratic process.” Hilariously, the US Secretary of State said, on the same day, that the US would have a “smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”
