“i. Hedonism. salt and honey. blood and wine. thorns and petals. unbridled savagery unfurling like a graceful dance beneath the stars. Bacchanalia. this is his domain.
ii. Duality. the dark and the light. decay and growth. ecstasy and misery. carnal pleasure and bodily agony. he is incomprehensible. a mystery. an enigma. he wouldn’t have it any other way.
iii. Delirium. they followed him. those wild women intoxicated with his rich, bloody wine. those wild women with ivy and ash in their hair. those wild women with blood stained fingernails. those wild women who spun around and around until the luminous orb in the heavens was nothing more that a blur. he is their liberator.
iv. Allure. his voice is the whisper of the sublime. his mouth is the sumptuous nectar of a pomegranate. his fingertips are stained plum, saturated with the dark juice he voraciously consumes. his onyx eyes, darker than a black hole. his lips curl into a smile, slow and lazy and deliberate. every inch of him spells ruin.
v. Worship. he is Dionysus. he is Bacchus. succumb to the ecstasy. burn at his touch. dance till your blood soaks the earth. throw your head back. howl at the moon. drown in his wine. shed your skin and enter the divine.”

Isn’t it weird how you can actually feel the pain in your chest and stomach when something really hurts your feelings
This is actually because it activates your vagus nerve! Basically your body goes “we are so upset! We must be injured! Where???? On the inside guts! Those are confusing and hard to differentiate!!! Confusing guts are hurt!”
please take a moment to really appreciate the argument of why "most cops don't live in the cities they oversee" needs to be addressed
full video here
[transcript:
Yusuf Abdul-Qadir: what percent of the police live in the city?
mayor: about 5% or so
Yusuf Abdul-Qadir: 5%, so 95% don’t live in the city.
mayor: yes.
Yusuf Abdul-Qadir: so when you say that the vast majority of the percentage goes towards salaries, et cetera, fringe benefits, that means that they take their money on 81, go to outside the city, pay taxes in those communities that have some of the best schools while we have an underfunded school district--
someone else: $60 million up.
Yusuf Abdul-Qadir: so i just want to put into context what we’re talking about, because it’s really easy to say, mayor-- and with all due respect, i like you. but that was a very politician answer.
mayor: sorry, what specifically?
Yusuf Abdul-Qadir: the, “we will consider, and we will look.” what we’re saying is we’re not interested in considering and looking. what we’re saying is, actually, there’s $50 million. commit to $20 million cut, because we’re sending money-- as the mayor of Syracuse, when you don’t have a tax base, you’re sending money out of Syracuse. and not just for 30 years-- for the rest of their life because their pensions, their health insurance, their families. so we are funding for other people’s communities to have the promise of the American dream while we are denying it in our community. that’s the context that you, as the mayor, have to look at this under.
so when we talk about renegotiating union contract, what we’re saying is you can’t play around with, “maybe, um, we will--” no. y’all got to go, because you don’t provide a service that is beneficial to the community, that is meaningful to the community. the services that you provide criminalize our community, impoverish our community, reallocate resources to suburbs. we are actually funding the suburbs, both in our police departments and in our schools.
and to be clear, just to be clear, it’s not just the fact of, like, the percentage of people. we’re also funding what race of people are on the police force, the percentage of race of teachers, as well, superintendent, board president. so we want to put in context, because it’s not just a class issue. it’s a race issue. we’re telling black and brown people and poor people, you don’t matter. the devil’s in the data and in the details, mayor. respectfully, it is not acceptable for us to be here considering.]
I think the obsession with having been “born this way” largely stems from the idea that you need to be “innocent” to be guiltless.
If something is weird then you need to have no control over it, otherwise it would be mandatory to fix it. If I said that I had control over my stimming and could stop it at any time, people would request I do so. Not for my comfort but for theirs. If I said that I had control over my gender and could be something binary or maybe even cis, people would request I do so. If I said that I have control over my sexuality and could make myself heterosexual, people would request I do so. If I said I could control my attraction and could make myself monogamous, people would request I do so. If I said that I could control my disability and could choose to stop a flair up in its tracks, people would request I do so. They would never ask out of the goodness of their hearts, they would always be asking because I was annoying, concerning, distracting, or inconveniencing them.
Diversity is sometimes only tolerated if you have no control. If you have control, rules will be made to stop it. Hair will be straightened, clothes will be standardized, languages will be shushed, interests will be squashed, weight will be lost, and so on and so on and so on. Proving that we were born this way replaces the more obvious, that we’re okay this way. I don’t need to be a helpless victim of my differences to be forgiven for them. My differences aren’t crimes.

Just as a heads up, this pattern is not really recommended for beginners. There is not a whole lot of explanation of the basic techniques, and it requires a fair bit of precision, two types of fusible interfacing, and an assumption that you can keep a consistent seam allowance and do some hand sewing and know when to sew things right sides together and such.
I am not promising anything, different methods will yield different results, I have never made a pattern exactly as it was written and neither should you. If you want something the same as the next person, go to the shops.
Actually, nevermind, this is a quarantine craft, stay home.

Hymn to the Winter Lord
The sun sets here by 4:30 My body, thrown by confusion Slows Sluggish And I know that soon I will meet you again
In the summer I ran wild twisted under trees and through tansy Let my hair down in the rapids of a river Let campfire smoke permeate my scent, Drank wine on a sandy river bank A hymn to you that is expected and treasured You were there; but distant. I was busy, silly, feet solidly planted amongst the conifers. This summer I fell in love, kissed a boy til I was dizzy Picked berries til the sun set Baked bread when August night had cooled the house.
This was my summer hymn To the Theoi who kept my cup full And my laughter loud A hymn to the bountiful harvest that followed
My winter hymn is new to me Like a new skin In my winter hymn I am hesitant Reflective, repentent, fatigued The cups of summer wine are replaced with winter rum And it is scary
It is a terrifying feeling YOU are a terrifying feeling You have always filled me with a thrilling uncertainty That I relish and recoil from
Who else could elicit this response? Dionysus, two-fold god. You were there, certainly, amongst the summer vines But it is in the winter that I feel you rake Your chaos over the fresh Shivering flesh That I expose - will ALWAYS expose - to you.
I am ready (I am not ready) Winter is here, and it has brought you with it.
How glad I am, Lord.
Hello I’m assuming you didn’t do anything in bad faith but the loud shrill chirping your chick is doing in that video on your keyboard is a sign of distress and calling out for its mother. It should only be away from her VERY brief periods of time in that age.
Thank you for your ignorant and misplaced concern.
First of all: Pippin did not have a mother. He fell off the back of a truck only a few hours after hatching and I rescued him from a busy road. For all intents and purposes I /WAS/ his mother.Secondly, and to that end, during the first several months of his life, he was with me pretty much constantly. (Luckily I had a lifestyle that allowed me to be nearby and attend to him pretty much 24/7.) When he wasn’t physically snuggled up with me he was usually kept in a heated box, usually close enough for him to see and hear me.Third, I have been raising chickens from hatchlings since I was knee high to a grasshopper, learning from lifetime poultry farmers and academic sources as well as my own hands-on knowledge. I know what a baby chicken needs.Fourth, I knew this SPECIFIC chicken very well. (See the aforementioned 24/7 care regime.) I knew his cheeps and chirps intimately and could interpret the difference between hungry, cold, lonely, etc. In this specific video, Pippin is very warm and recently fed and watered, and what he is asking for is comfort and attention. He has left a very warm nesting spot just off camera to the left to come to my hand specifically, because my hand is the closest he has to “momma.”Would it have been better if he had had a whole brood of siblings and an actual mother hen to socialise with? Absolutely. Was he receiving the best care available at the time in this video? Yes.
Pippin grew up to be a very happy, healthy, well socialised rooster, who went on to live on a farm, lead a small flock, and father many children. He became fiercely protective of his flock and territory but remained extremely friendly to the handful of humans who helped raise him in the first 8 months of his life.
I consider this outcome to be the ultimate proof of not only my “good faith” but actual competency and skill in doing what I do.
I have provided plenty of opportunities for viewers of this video to get the whole story on Pippin, so you’ll understand if I am not that grateful for your interfering inquiries.

Mahu is the hawaiian word for people who embody both male and female spirit
This is exactly what we’re talking about when we say cisnormativity/transphobia is eurocentric - almost ALL non-white cultures have some form of two-spirited identity, this is so important to remember
Very important birb.

Nope. Not allowed to use the mouse. Got to use the peep peep birb now. It’s the new rules.
@cat-pun
*Sigh* That’s not what’s going on. The chick is giving out distress calls, its probably cold and looking for its mom. In lieu of mom, human hand suffices. If at all possible do not get chicks this young, especially not just one!
*bigger sigh* I have literally provided every opportunity for people to find out whether this peepster is okay or not:
https://www.facebook.com/Pippin-the-Chicken-1406218666331320
I love all chickens, especially all the ones I have raised, and it really upsets me when it’s even vaguely implied that I either don’t know what I’m doing, or don’t care about their welfare.
REST. EASY. Enjoy this video for all its cuteness. The baby is FINE.
OH MY GODS I CAN’T GET OVER THIS
Sometimes a baby’s got to nest.
Does anyone know what kind of peep this is?
@tamorapierce could be a Brahma chicken or a light Silkie, im not that sure. could also be an Cochin chicken. kinda hard to tell from this video :) hope this helps.
In the end, Pippin turned out to be a Cochin.
I'd really appreciate it if actuallycute or even would reblog this video (assuming they haven't already) with my comments, because I get a fair bit of flack about it every once in awhile, and I think it might help.
The usual critique is basically "This is abuse! The baby bird is cold and needs its mother to get warm! Those chirps aren't cute they are distress! Why isn't it under its heat lamp?!"
Well. First of all, this "baby bird" is a less-than-week-old black cochin chick. His name is Pippin. And he is an orphan, so he doesn't have a momma. I rescued him from the middle of a hot asphalt road; it isn't clear if he was accidentally dropped there, abandoned, or escaped, but he would not have lived very long without my intervention.
Secondly: one one hand, I've got a fair bit of experience with chickens, and know how to handle and take care of them pretty well, and on the other hand, I was not prepared for this little guy to come into my life. I didn't have things like heat pads or lamps (or the means to buy them on short notice). Frankly the little guy ought to have died. (But if you'll look on his Facebook page, you'll see that he did not, and grew up to be quite gorgeous and well balanced!)
Third: If you look closely, you'll see that in sight of the video are Pippin's food and water, inches away from us. What you cannot see is just off screen to the left, where a hot water bottle and a pile of towels lie in the sunshine.
For an orphan Pippin was one of the most spoiled little baby chickens ever, having the full attention of a qualified human available 24/7 for about five months!
Yes, those peeps are technically "distress calls." So are most baby noises. But I know Pippin's noises quite intimately. These are about 1/3 "cold!" and 2/3 "lonely!" and really quite mild compared to his real cries. Chickens are social creatures, who need more than basic food-water-shelter. They also need companionship. Pippin preferred my cold, sweaty hands to his warm dry blanket and water bottle because as well as fulfilling his biological need they also filled his psychological needs.
I don't recommend doing what I did to just anyone. Just one peepster is exhausting, and I was lucky to have just enough experience/knowledge, a lot of time on my hands, and a lot of support (not to mention a load of luck and a very robust baby). Moments like this were rewarding, but hard won.
Please stop telling me this video is Not Actually Cute. It's adorable. Your envy is what's not cute. ;) <3
Very important birb.

birb not computer birb not computer.
Actual footage of cloudcuckoocountry.
But seriously, I think thats a Silkie chicken chick. They grow up to look like this:
You know nothing, Jon Snow. Pippin is a bantam Black Cochin, and he grew up to look like this:
*sigh* Kids Chicks are so needy! :P
What kind of bird is it? So cute!
Pippin is primarily a bantam Black Cochin. (EDIT: Oh, and that's a kind of chicken, btw. He's a cockerel, not a hen. Though obviously in this video that's impossible to know.)
I say "primarily" because I rescued him and I don't know exactly what went into his breeding, but it's pretty clear that's his main contribution. His adult coloration implies a mix of something else but I doubt I'll ever know what.
That super-loud type of chirp is actually a distress call. Just saying.
And I'm "just saying" what's your point? About 80% of baby noises are "distress calls." (And 45.89% of statistics are made up on the spot.) And in actual fact, those are hardly Pippin's "super-loud" chirps, and only about a third of those noises Pippin is making here indicate "cold!" His main heat source is inches off screen (and his food and water are actually IN the video.)
The thing that pisses me off about your comment is that you ever-so-subtlely imply that the person taking this video is either incompetent, negligent, or deliberately exploiting an animal "in distress." You make yourself out to be oh-so-wise in the ways of animal rearing or whatever, and make me out to be a goon. If you were actually concerned about Pippin you might have taken ten seconds to send his owner a message and say "hey do you need any help taking care of that chick?"
Fuck you.
Know the difference between you and me?
I actually care.
For example, I took two minutes out of my busy life to go look at your page and noticed you had an "about me" section. I found out more about you before responding to your rude-ass comments. I wanted to know if maybe you were somehow invested in the lives of animals, or particularly knowledgeable about animal pediatrics and therefor compelled to turn my video into your own PSA (unlikely, since you criticized me without offering any tips or advice on how to take /better/ care of Pippin). #former chicken owner ahh so that makes you an expert does it? Fuck off.
Turns out you're one of the most incredibly pompous Tumblr users I've ever had the misfortunate to cross paths with.
"I have a bad habit of noticing ‘little things’ that aren’t supposed to be given any attention, then being completely oblivious to important aspects of something."
Really, you notice "little things" like the ENTIRE PAGE on my blog dedicated to giving you more info about that chicken?
You know what, I /was/ going to tear apart your "About Me" section and show you what a privileged judgmental obnoxious glitch you are, but honestly you've given me too much fodder.
My point is: You are a rude little boy; step off.
