warhammer is a hilarious fandom to try and recommend people to get into because so many of our books are out of print, half of our games suck or are just mid, the miniatures are expensive, the fans can be absolutely horrendous if you meet the “wrong” ones, so much of our content is paywalled, and even playing the actual tabletop game is frustrating.

BUT GOD. WHEN IT HITS, IT HITS!!

i haven't posted about void king in a hot minute but i've read more than half of it and 1. the story isn't going anywhere, there's one event i thought should've been resolved in a few chapters and is actually taking the majority of the book, to the point where i'm wondering what else is going to happen because there's not time and space to develop anything else and 2. one of the co-protagonists is constantly being described as a degenerate ( 😐 ) untrustworthy snake and there's constant attention being called by both other protags and the narrator to the way he dresses and talks and how much drugs and drinking he does, how hedonistic he is and how weird his vassals are BUT he has yet to do anything remotely suspicious, so what conclusion am I meant to be reaching? that he's bad because he's foppish?????? what?????? like????????? i know this is a wh40k book and not undercut mcqueer literature but i have to laugh

I'm on page 62 of void king and oomfies, let me be so real with you, it's so boring. The characters are walking stereotypes, you got the eccentric flamboyant one, you got the battle hardened viking that's obsessed with hunting one, you got the admech that only cares about logic one, you got the abusive father one. yawn.

I actually have no thoughts about the content of this book whatsoever yet but i will say i am bothered by how small the chapters are. I thought the quick cuts were happening at the beginning to set up the action and all the key characters but NO, i flipped through the book and all of the chapters are in between 4-6 pages. What's up with that?

tbh given my years of fandom it should not be this surprising but nevertheless i am always caught off guard when i visit any primarch's tags and nearly all of the posts are imagines or self insert fics and the like, i guess no shade, i just haven't experienced things like these since fallout 2015
