šāā¬The Illustrated Collection of Black Cats' Musingsšāā¬
As a quick break from Drawtober-- I made a lil black cat zine recently!!! :D
I somewhat mentioned it earlier, but I also wanted to show some "behind the scenes," like the inspiration for the pics + exactly how I put together the zine itself, if anyone was curious! you can check it under the cut C:
~2 years ago, my sister moved away to California. She loves taking long walks and sent me photos of little nooks from around her new area not long after.
Since I couldn't visit anytime soon and was feeling a lil sentimental, I decided to draw some of the photos, add some cats for extra coziness of course).
Looking back on the illustrations a year later, I had a vague feeling all of them were linked. so I planned out an idea for a zine, since I love turning things into little stories!
The original title was "Black Cat the Poet" but after sitting on it a bit, I felt the little blurbs were more just little passing thoughts. So I changed the title to "An Illustrated Collection of Black Cats' Musings" and it feels more fitting :)
So exactly how they're made! -
I ordered a bunch of double-sided prints. Each 8.5x11 sheet = 1 zine once cut up. I actually included EXTREMELY faint cut lines on the prints, if you look superduper close you might see them lol.
After cutting them into individual 2.5x5" pages, I use a hole punch to make two holes on each mini page. I use the holes to tie some white waxed thread through to bind them all together.
And there!
TBH a large part of the idea for this format stemmed from my desire to make zines that are simple and affordable to ship-- basically things that can fit in a lil' rigid envelope ($2 domestic / $4 international cost) rather than a package ($6 domestic / $21 international cost......).
Also, it's much less expensive for me to order 40 unbound/uncut 8.5x11 prints, than to order 40 14-page zines. It all works out quite nicely, and all the extra handmade touches, while leaving each one a bit imperfect, also makes them more special than if it was mass-bound i think. I still like the convenience of ordering things pre-bound sometimes, but this one was a fun change.
So yeah! Thanks for reading if you got this far :D
Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to remember and mourn the transgender people who lost their lives to violence in the last year. Here is more info: https://glaad.org/tdor/
Iāve written long posts on facebook for TDoR in the last few years, but today I want to share three things.
1) a poem, dedicated to all of the trans people I know who have struggled so intensely with the impact of transphobia and all of the trans people who are feeling hopeless and terrified. You are not abandoned, you are a loved and valued part of our community, and we will fight for every last person.
2) a list of links to resources for trans people, far from exhaustive but hopefully useful to at least one person who sees this.
3) a short list of places for cis people to donate ā I found a few GoFundMe campaigns for trans people who are fundraising for the surgeries they need to be at peace in their bodies or who are trying to escape dangerous or hostile situations, and most of them have very few or no donations at the time that I write this. I donate to trans peoplesā GoFundMes almost every time I hear the news of a trans personās death, because the only thing I can do in response is try to give back to the trans community in some small way.
It turns out that Tumblr has a limit to how many links you can share per post, so I will put everything in this google doc.
okay so Iāve been watching she ra and voltron and I looked up when each takes place. Voltron in 2314 (I think) and She Ra in 2999. What if the First Ones were explorers from Voltron? Hordak talks a lot about portals in S2E3, and Voltron is full of universe-traversing. This might just be my dumb little theory brain but I think Iām onto something here. Iāll try to update as I gather more evidence.
okay so. Stars. Mara lost the stars when she threw Etheria into the alternate universe. Mara was from thousands of years ago. Adoraās a First One. Mara could be a First One? Mara couldāve been part of a crew (Voltron? Descendant of someone from Voltron?) and kamikazeād Etheria and herself into the alternate universe on a mission. Voltron has all this awesome tech, and the First Ones have tech shards that Entrapta was able to tap into. Again I could be completely pulling this from my ass but my brain likes making sense of nonsensical things
At Glimmerās coronation, Casta says āGive me a tickā when preparing to fix the robe. Voltron uses the same time measurement. Ticks are little more than seconds. This further provides evidence to my theory.
Please stop pestering us with things like this. This has nothing to do with men fighting for their rights. Eve is short for āeveningā. Please donāt turn activism into a joke. Thanks.

Remember this viral post? Wanda and Jamal and her husband Lonnie are the most wholesome people, this story brought tears to my eyes originally and I am crying once more learning from Jamal's social media that Lonnie has sadly passed away.
the snake is the perfect mascot animal for the queer community. demonised by christianity, downtrodden and feared, generally docile but will defend itself with lethal force if necessary.
I want to take a dollar bill and write āare you Misha Collinsā on it and maybe one day itāll end up in his hands and heād be the one mind fucked for once
Itās not illegal to deface American currency actually!!
Itās illegal to deface it in a manner that makes the money unusable (shredding/burning etc) but you can write stuff on money or draw a mustache on George Washington to your heartās content.
When I worked at a bank I got all sorts of bills with weird shit on them, from āfuck trumpā to āfor a good time callā. They all went in the vault- still totally useable and therefore not illegal :)
āscuitā comes from the french word for ābakeā, ācuireā as bastardized by adoption by the brittish and a few hundred years
ābiscuitā meant ātwice-bakedā, originally meaning items like hardtack which were double baked to dry them as a preservative measure long before things like sugar and butter were introduced. if you see a historical doccument use the word ābiscuitā do not be fooled to think ābeing a pirate mustve been pretty cool, they ate nothing but cookiesā - they were made of misery to last long enough to be used in museum displays or as paving stones
ātriscuitā is toasted after the normal biscuit process, thrice baked
thus the monoscuit is a cookie thats soft and chewy because it was only baked once, not twice
when brittish colonists settled in the americas they no longer had to preserve biscuits for storage or sea voyages so instead baked them once and left them soft, often with buttermilk or whey to convert cheap staples/byproducts into filling items to bulk out the meal to make a small amount of greasy meat feed a whole family. considering hardtack biscuits were typically eaten by dipping them in grease or gravy untill they became soft enough to eat without breaking a tooth this was a pretty short leap of ājust dont make them rock hard if im not baking for the armyā but didnt drop the name because its been used for centuries and people forgot its french for ātwice bakedā back in the tudor era, biscuit was just a lump of cooked dough that wasnt leavened bread as far as they cared
thus the buttermilk biscuit and the hardtack biscuit existed at the same time. ācookiesā then came to america via german and dutch immigrants as tiny cakes made with butter, sugar/molasses, and eggs before ātea biscuitsā as england knew them due to the new availability of cheap sugar- which is why ābiscuitā and ācookieā are separate items in america but the same item in the UK
the evolution of the biscuit has forks on its family tree
