The cottage is nearly silent. The drizzle outside making no impact on the roof, the wind still for once. Aaron stands at the sink, tin cup of water in his hand and wood boards under his bare feet. The tips of his toes are cold, he regrets removing his socks in the night.
The bed’s too warm for him to need them anymore, with the spring thawing the earth and Robert’s weight pressed up along his side each night, a firebrand on Aaron’s skin even when asleep.
There’s a shuffle of sound from behind him, a small groan and crack of a back.
Aaron takes a sip of the cold water, eyes on the horizon out the window.
Long limbs wrap around his waist, a chin hooking over his shoulder as Robert brings the heavy quilt around them both.
“There’s no work to be done today. The traps are laid, the boat repaired.” The deep rumble of the other man’s voice reverberates through Aaron’s collar bone.
Aaron hums in agreement, eyes closing as he leans his weight into Robert’s chest. The stark contrast of the man enveloping him and the chill in the soles of his feet making the embrace even more welcome.
Robert noses along the side of Aaron’s neck, exhalations along his tendon making Aaron lay his head on the shoulder behind him.
“Come back to bed.” Robert punctuates his words with barely-there kisses, pulling gently at Aaron’s waist, back towards the nest of blankets he layers on them both every night.
Aaron lets himself be pulled, putting his cup down before resting his hands on Robert’s forearms, letting him guide their steps together.
A gift for @some-mad-lunge on the occasion of her birth because she’s fabulous and I adore her. A mini scene moment from the world of my selkie fic, complete with some snuggles.
