I finally started watching The Pitt, and I'm currently on season 2. I have to say, I absolutely loved the characters and their development in the first season.
Mel King quickly became one of my favorites. She's such a sweetheart. One of my best friends is autistic, so I was genuinely happy with how the show chose to write her character. From the very beginning, I noticed there was some chemistry between her and Langdon. (Who, by the way, is also a fantastic character. I love his dynamic with Santosāthey're both incredibly well written.)
I think it's really sweet that Langdon genuinely respects Mel, sees how capable she is, and constantly encourages her, while Mel clearly admires him and sees him as someone she can rely on.That said, I was always hesitant to actually ship them for one obvious reason: he's married and has two very young kids.
Personally, I really don't like infidelity storylines. I've never found them romantic, and I honestly think they're a pretty harmful narrative choice most of the time. Now that I'm watching season 2, though, things feel... different.
After everything Langdon went through with his addiction, rehab, and therapy, he admits that his marriage is falling apart and that his wife wants a divorce. At the same time, the scenes between him and Mel have become even more emotionally charged, which definitely caught my attention.
Even so, I'm still a little conflicted. I know his marriage has basically been over since his addiction spiraled, but he's still the father of a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl. One thing I keep thinking about is Mel herself. In season 1, we saw how sensitive she is when it comes to families. She literally says things like, "It makes me sad to see families break apart."
Because of that, I can't really imagine her jumping into a relationship with Langdon right away, even if his marriage is ending. If anything, I think she'd probably feel uncomfortable with the timing, and honestly, I think that makes her character even more compelling.I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about them as a couple since I haven't finished the season yet.
But if the writers are actually planning to go in that direction, I really hope Langdon gets divorced first. I just don't want their story to involve cheating.
