In Progress: Devoe TV

Devoe TV is a family-run audio and tv repair business based out of MA (my home state!) that’s been around since the 50’s. The client approached me looking for a logo and printed business material that echoed the retro styling of the 50's. I played around with several hand-drawn font styles and tv related ephemera. More to come!

Created hang tags/gift tags for my Etsy shop, showcasing the new logo I designed and the colors of Mexico that I so much adore.

Recently had a roll of Kodak film developed - all photos from BedStuy, Brooklyn. While the quality could be considered poor, there is and always will be something very special about the way film captures light, air quality, movement, etc. I'll never stop using it as long as it's available (and I hope that will be for a very long time).

It's been (embarrassingly) quiet awhile since I took time to do a real drawing, so this is the latest attempt. An interior perspective drawing of my bedroom (sans bed), done in pencil.

I have the most beautiful marigold-hued velvet curtains in the bedroom, so I couldn't resist a drawing in color, too.

Seashell Block Print & Mermaid Bra Tank Top

Inspired by this quote, I decided that being a mermaid must be pretty awesome and since I can't breath underwater, the next best thing would be channeling mermaidness via fashion, so I created my own mermaid bra tank top. Want one, too? Check the shop soon!

It’s finally feeling like Spring in NYC. Everything is in bloom and people seem lighter, more agreeable…or, maybe it’s just me. This photo is from last Saturday, when I was out to brunch with some of my best friends and got to meet Louise Fili. I’d redo this day anytime.

The volunteer organization I’ve been with since their inception, PAWS NY, is having a contest for the theme of their upcoming fundraiser, so I designed these graphics for a week-long social media campaign.

Busy!

Thankfully, this Winter has been very busy for me. With freelance, my job at SHOP thomaspaul and a new job at MAN of the WORLD, my days are packed full of design and web management. Set Production Fun

Photos from a fun production design project I recently assisted on. This is a "Pillow Bed" for the main character of an upcoming film. This bed is on of many whimsical elements like a unicorn mobile, green claw-foot tub and pieces of cake for a little boy. I draped and sewed these over-sized "pillow cases" overnight, in time for their 6am shoot.

2014 Resolutions/Focus Areas

I think having goals or areas of focus is really important and it helps me as a creative person to stay on track a little bit more. Tangents will still to had, but I'm planning on focusing in on these areas...

Enjoy quality time with the people who matter most...focus energy on the relationships that have an equal balance of love, support and dedication.

Paint when the urge arises (focus idea: paint portraits, styled with inspiration from favorite artists like Alex Katz or Jonas von der Hude).

Make more of an effort to keep in touch.

Work with people, publications, organizations and establishments that nurture their communities, believe in quality over quantity, produce something useful, meaningful, beautiful and healthy for the world and above all, understand that kindness, honesty and hard work are the tools to success. Beautiful design is a major plus, too! Currently inspired by Brooklyn Brewery, Apartment Therapy, Warby Parker, Mast Brothers Chocolate, and Best Made.

Keep active with yoga and cycling, but introduce running as a new hobby. I've been wanting to learn how to run long distances and this seems like a fitting time as any.

CHEERS TO A GREAT YEAR!

The first craving of the New Year was for Hush Puppies. Random, but then cravings usually are. My obsession with Hush Puppies started early, thanks to my grandfather. He would take me and my family to seaside seafood joints in Florida and order at least two baskets or these breaded balls of wonder and anything we didn't eat, came home in a doggy bag.

Now, if ever I'm in the South or near water, I seek out Hush Puppies. However, seeing as I'm a city girl in the North, the pickings are slim so I made this easy recipe and have to say these puppies come awfully close to the ones that sparked my obsession years ago.

This was an excellent craving-cure and also helped with the NYE headache :-)

Hush Puppies

Makes 15 to 20 hush puppies

INGREDIENTS

1 cup white cornmeal flour

¾ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder ¾ teaspoon sugar 1 egg ½ cup milk ¼ cup green onion, finely chopped

DIRECTIONS

1. In a small saucepan, heat vegetable oil to 375 degrees.

2. Beat together egg and milk.

3. In a separate bowl, combine corn meal, salt, baking powder and sugar. 4. Add dry ingredients to egg and milk mixture and stir until smooth.

5. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into the hot oil.

6. Fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towels and serve hot.

NOTE: I served my hush puppies with a side of pickled sauerkraut and a Sriracha-mayo dipping sauce.

Sgroppino Jello Cubes

The classic Italian cocktail gets reinvented as a tiny, deliciously dangerous jello cube...

Traditional Sgroppino's call for Lemon Sorbet, Prosecco or Champagne and Vodka served in a champagne glass. I'm throwing a NYE party and wanted a fun ( and addictive) jello shot to serve that wasn't cheesy, bland or over-played, so I decided to incorporate the ingredients from this classic cocktail, into a fun and easy-to-serve jello cube. Expect a tart, yet sweet taste without the sting of (cheap) vodka and prepare for a lot of bubbly party goers with this really easy recipe.

INGREDIENTS

Makes 36 cubes

1 1/2 cups Prosecco

1 cup frozen lemonade concentrate

1/2 cup water

4 envelopes plain gelatin

1 cup vodka

DIRECTIONS

1. Pour Prosecco, lemonade concentrate and water into a small saucepan on low heat

2. Sprinkle with gelatin and stir until fully dissolved (appx. 2 min)

3. Remove from heat and stir in vodka

4. Pour into a 6x6 pan (metal or glass) and refrigerate at least 1hr

5. After the jello has set, sprinkle sugar on top and cut as desired

NOTE: Once cubes are out of the refrigerator, they will begin to soften quickly! Try small servings, passed with festive toothpicks (as pictured).
