I’m a massive fan of OC driven content so of course, you’ll find a lot of that here! I love talking about mine and I love learning about yours!

Arlong/reader - dark vibes, implied CNC or straight up non-con if you'd prefer.
Imagine being Arlong's darling.
And he's punishing you at the edge of the docks. You're naked, bent over, getting spankings for whatever transgression he's set upon you this particular day.
(Maybe you're in a good relationship with him, and this is just a little CNC -- maybe not /shrug/ )
He warns you that if you try to "escape" him by diving into the water, his men will be allowed to take you as they please, and you can tell from all the hungry eyes looking up at you that they're ready, willing, and able.
You're good though, good for Arlong, good at enduring, good at being good. So you take it, knowing he won't break you, knowing that they won't either - whether you're loved or kept, you're his favorite, and he won't let you go so easily. So you endure, and you make it through the swats and smacks and spankings.
And the second relief washes over you, he shoves you into the water.
I feel like some people need to relearn Genre Expectations... "Man, this tragedy sucks!!! Why didn't they just do XYZ, then everything could have ended happily!!" well, then it wouldn't be a tragedy, would it. "Man, this lighthearted teen romcom is terrible, it's so sappy and unrealistic!!" Well, yeah. If it had been gritty and dark, it wouldn't have been a lighthearted romcom, would it. Is the writing actually bad or are you just trying to order a milkshake from a Home Depot
HOW is it possible that I am seeing this for the first time? Now safely installed in my tumblr short cuts folder. I am SO bad at coding that this is a real life saver.
(this came out of a conversation in the comments on a previous post about an author threatening to stop updating a fic because of lack of engagement)
So there’s this idea that fic writers should write for themselves and not care too much about stats or engagement,
and i totally get the sentiment behind that. if writing becomes entirely about stats and external validation, something important does get lost - creative freedom and joy, conviction in your own writing
but i also think:
“i write for myself, but i post for others.”
because posting fic is not only self-expression. it’s social. ao3 is called an archive, but emotionally it often functions as a community space.
people post for connection, for participation, for others to bear witness to their pain and trauma and grief,
and i don’t think most people are asking to be admired so much as acknowledged. there’s something deeply human about wanting another person to encounter something that mattered to you and go:
“ok, yeah, I see what you were trying to say. I see you.”
especially because fanfic is often people processing very real feelings through fictional characters at a safe distance, one step removed,
and then uploading that deeply personal thing into a shared archive and hoping somebody else might connect with it.
And i think that’s why it hurts so much when you summon up the courage and post a fic into the void and you get nothing back,
Underweight Sanji is always cold, right? And Zoro was a radiator BEFORE he got extra beefy, but now he’s a FURNACE. So Sanji often ends up cuddled up to Zoro during the little cat naps Sanji has started joining Zoro with while he recovers his strength and energy
(Plus the extra beef is a nice cushion on Sanji’s poor bones hehe)
And Zoro is being good! He’s not gonna make ANY moves on Sanji and he’s not gonna let ANYTHING maybe happen between them until Sanji is back on his feet. But he’s real bad at controlling his “in love with Sanji”-face and Zeff notices.
So every few hours Zeff goes to find Sanji to give him some nutrition, poor Zoro is always getting “caught” with Sanji wrapped around him like a limpet and is all ✋😳🤚 while Zeff glares at him as he gently wakes up his Eggplant for a smoothie or something
(Zoro thinks it very unfair no other StrawHat is treated so suspiciously even they also are lovingly cuddling Sanji all the time but don’t incur Zeff’s glare. Even when Luffy joins their cuddle time it’s still Zoro getting singled out!!)
this is so funny lmao hes being sooo chivalrous and for WHAT
Jinbe hiding the fact that he cares about Arlong behind his own morality is really interesting. Like he frames freeing Arlong as an unfortunate technicality and not something he is actively choosing to do.
The same thing happens when he beats Arlong fully knowing he could have killed him right there. He physically can't and won't admit he cares about the guy and instead frames it under abiding by Fisher Tiger's will and not his own.
When Jinbei apologizes to Nami he takes full responsibility of Arlong's actions, almost adsorbing his sins and wanting to be punished for them in Arlong's stead. His morality here is dehumanizing.
Because its Jinbei's conscience that's tormenting him, not Fisher Tiger's morality, thus its his love for Arlong that lead to what happened to Nami. So when Nami doesn't let him apologize for Arlong/hurt himself as recompense for her suffering she gives a portion of Jinbe's individuality back and it so sweet.
Hi, I'm doing a clean reupload of Sea, Salt and Sun. It's devided in a few parts for easier access and Ridding Currents is the first book!
It centers mostly on Biri getting to know the crew and the land. There is a lot of friendship building, tensions between fishmen and humans and a lot of parties :D
I'm also putting illustrations in all the chapters ! I'm up to chapter 8.

Here is an extract :
“So Biri, our nice little Biri.”
This was starting most stunningly, she thought as she tried not to fidget too obviously with the ties of her apron in front of Arlong.
“There are a few serious matters we need you to enlighten for us.”He was wearing a disgustingly sweet smile that made all the alarm bells ring in her head. Chew and Kuroobi's presence in the meeting room did nothing to help lighten the mood.
“Sit down.”
Without a word she obeyed. Speaking seemed out of turn right now.
When Tarao, a mako sharkman she’d seen a few times, told her she was expected in the meeting room of level two, she hadn't thought too much of it. She had a few more chats with her captain these past few weeks and he might just want to tell her to add this or that to this week's menu. When she had been welcomed by Arlong, Chew and Kuroobi in front of a table covered in sea charts, her whole body had shouted to run the other way.
“You're allowed to speak,” Chew said with an amused smile.
Biri nodded. Tarao worked with Chew, in hindsight, she should have seen something coming.
Arlong burst out laughing, throwing his head back, his black hair flowing all around. The noise made her jump. Gods, she was not getting used to his mood swings.
“Relax, if you've been truthful up to now,” He chuckled as he sat down, quickly mimicked by his officers, “you have nothing to fear. If you haven't, however…” He closed his eyes, his smile not wavering before picking back up. “Let's say I would prefer the first option.”
Kuroobi didn't seem so sure what he preferred, Biri noticed. It would be a lot easier to relax if there wasn’t always one person in the room set on killing her.
“What can I do for you, Captain?” she managed to ask.
“Kuroobi, why don't you lead this one?”
The ray fishman cleared his voice before talking in the low flat voice he reserved for her. “We want you to tell us how you evaded the security net we have around and in the territory.”
Ah, this again. It must have been eating at him, a little voice whispered in her head. She noticed Arlong couldn't hold back a softer smile as he listened to his friend go on.
“We should have eyes on the whole territory, I have been adamant about security. I have planned and organised rounds and watches here for years. We’ve never had such a breach go unnoticed.”
“You’ve never had anyone enter this part of East Blue without your knowledge?” Biri asked, raising an eyebrow.
That seemed wildly improbable. And presumptuous, no one could supervise a whole sea.
“That happens from time to time, but we always notice it quickly,” Arlong explained in a lazy voice. He seemed in quite a mood today, happy and strangely relaxed.
“You,” his lieutenant continued, “sailed through the whole sea, right up to our gate, right up to our door. In more than five years, this had never happened.”
“It did actually,” Chew cut in, “Kuroshio swam here unnoticed to join us.”
“The boy is a fishman, Chew, he knows the ways of the sea.”
“Mmh, sure.” The second officer admitted, unconvinced.
‘Anyway, you are no fishman. So you’re going to tell us how you got here because for now, the only possibility is that our men are slacking on their jobs.’
A hot wave crushed Biri as Kuroobi said that. She shuffled uncomfortably on her chair.
‘You-” She started in a small voice before clearing her throat. “You haven’t been disciplining any of them because of that right?”
“Why do you care?” Arlong tilted his head, intrigued.
“It’s as I said from the beginning, I’m lucky at Sea, She’s good to me. This has nothing to do with any of the crew. It would be cruel to blame them.” She went on as her throat was closing up again. “But it does seem to explain why some are so reluctant to have me here.”
“They don’t need an excuse to be unwilling to have you here,” Kuroobi said as he looked pointedly at his captain.
“What is done is done, brother.” Arlong’s smile never faltered. “Let the girl tell us where and how she sailed rather than pester her with questions.”
It was then that Biri realised ; Kuroobi was alone in this. Arlong and Chew were following because that was what needed to be done, not because they saw eye to eye with him on this situation. Well that was something. She got up, drawing their attention back on her.
“Could I show you which routes I took? You’ve taken my navigation journal, if I could have it back, I could tell you where and when I was. Maybe that would help?”
Her journal was kept in that very room, with other navigation notes. Kuroobi begrudgingly accepted to let her have it. Keeping notes of her sailing wasn’t her forte, usually she let the currents guide her more than her navigation gear, but with Arlong’s help, they made quick work of tracing her voyage.
“You’re quite the navigator, Captain,” she beamed, impressed “To patch together all this so easily.”
A great smile uncovered his great teeth and her heart skipped a beat. He was quite closer than usual. “I am, used to part of my job under our Captain Tiger, back in the days. Sharks are naturals, we have built in compass.”
“Is it because of the…”
She stopped herself, but it was too late. Doom grew in her chest as Chew burst out laughing. Biri’s hands went up defensively, clammy, catching her cooking uniform when she saw Arlong’s face darken.
“It’s because we can sense electric and magnetic fields,” he clarified in a grumpy voice, “the nose has nothing to do with it, girl. Kuroobi can sense that too. He just has other dispositions.”
She mumbled a flow of apology and finally Chew stopped laughing. To make it up to him, Biri also pointed out all the islands she had stopped at and what time. They were shocked that throughout her week-long journey into their territory, she had successfully moved at the perfect time to avoid patrols.

Chapter 41 of Sea, Salt and Sun is out on AO3!
Summary : Things are going smoothly for once…
This work is explicit and contains an array of topics that are not fit for younger audiences. Always check the tags before engaging with fanfics.
I’d say, if you wanted to read a nice, low stakes chapter completely out of context, read this one ;)
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
