Bruh it's nearly 2023 and I still haven't recovered from how dirty we did the Animorphs like???? The fictional allegory for a trans teenager literally being "trapped in the wrong body" for the bulk of the series until a cis girl falls in love with him and they heal together? The unflinching portrayal of an interracial love between two characters (Jake, a white cis male and Cassie a black cis woman), and how much they had to endure to stay together? Direct, brutal and unrelenting depictions of PTSD, trauma responses, depression and anxiety? The final moral of the story being "war is hell, good guys die, evil wins all the time and we need to accept this to beat it," like???? THE FUCKING ANIMORPHS?????? WHY THE HELL DID WE MILLENNIALS LATCH ONTO J.R. RAWBOOTY OR WHATEVER HER ASS IS CALLED WHEN THE ANIMORPHS WERE RIGHT THERE????????? THE BOOKS ARE SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN I'M GONNA SCREAM?

not only all of this but animorphs was released during a magical time where scholastic was releasing short serials for young readers in monthly instalments (goosebumps & babysitters club are other more popular examples) so every month you got more story!!! what a time to be a weird kid!!!!

anyway you can still read the series for free online or grab the audiobooks from your favourite library app (or buy them and also buy the graphic novels they’re very good adaptations 8))

We've been in a Valheim mood lately, so here are some of the things we've been building. It is very basic, but cozy!

congratulations on the flossing! any advice for someone who really struggles to take care of their teeth?

Make it a habit. I use a habit tracker. I do it at the same event-times every day, even if the hour-times vary. I usually do first thing in the morning while I’m waiting for the water in the shower, and then before bedtime when I’m waiting for the water in the sink to wash my face. (I live in an old house with a gas powered water heater. It can take the whole two minutes to get hot.)

I like to put on a podcast so I’m not too focused on having to put my hands and a bunch of tools into my mouth and I’ve worked and worked on my routine enough that I don’t think so hard anymore. My current aim is learning how to floss without watching and counting every tooth, but once I get there I’ll be blanked again.

Brush every tooth individually. It takes a while to get the hang of it but it’s “correct” and it’s more effective than just scrubbing around and hoping for the best.

Mint toothpaste can be really bad for the sensory processes. If you can afford to experiment with flavors, do that! There’s no law that says you’re over 10 and can’t use watermelon/bubblegum/orange & mango/strawberry “kids” toothpaste. Your tongue knows the difference but your teeth just go, “oh, neat, fluoride” and suck it up. If you’re really lucky and you can find that hot and spicy cassia (“cinnamon”) toothpaste, you are blessed, I want that shit so bad and I can’t find it here. (Fruit flavor recs are Tom’s Orange Mango and Quip Watermelon. Tom’s Strawberry isn’t bad either but the Tom’s flavors are both extremely mild.)

Quip commercials are not lying: brushing your teeth for two minutes is the equivalent of washing your hands for 20 seconds. 30 seconds per quadrant does it. Set a timer on your phone! Give it a cool noise! I like the Alert from Metal Gear, it’s dramatic and funny.

Mouthwashes may feel clean but they are not an adequate substitute for brushing or flossing.

SOFT BRISTLES ONLY. I used to use Medium because scraping my gums made them “feel cleaner.” Do not do this. It is bad for your gums. Gums are hard to heal because your mouth is a bacteria pit. Be nice to your gums.

Any floss is better than no floss, but I like mint flavored satin tape floss the best, and tape floss is what my Siberian Hygienist recommends for people who don’t floss regularly and bleed from doing it too hard on the rare occasion they do it at all. It’s softer than thread, can be easier to angle than floss picks, and I find it slides more easily between my teeth because it’s thin and slippery.

Floss comes in really long spools so you don’t have to be stingy with it while you’re learning. Use what you need until you get skilled enough to need less.

While you’re developing the habit, be kind to yourself. If you forgot and you realize you forgot, drop everything and go do it. Give yourself a sticker or a check in a tick box or! OR! Give yourself a big smile in the mirror after you do it and take a moment to just be proud! Look at you, doing something very important and taking care of yourself! Great job! :D

Edit: I decided this was my most underrated good post this year, so I’m Blazing it.

The context was that my dentist had just hired a new hygienist and she terrified me about my dental work being a waste because not flossing would lead to my gums receding and tooth loss. So I floss now!

A few years ago I also did a brushing tutorial but I’m not sure where that is.

Be good to your mouth, Tumblr! As my hygienist reminded me on my most recent cleaning (which was much faster because my teeth were much cleaner and she said I was doing a good job): you only get two sets of teeth so you better be good to them. 🥰
