@durbinfan13 brought this to my attention and because this is a side blog and not my main, and also because I want to address it properly I've decided to make this post

First things first, I totally agree that it is highly concerning that Mafuyu entered a relationship when he was still clearly hang up on Yuki (which makes sense it was his first love and he disappeared so brutally and abruptly). Also, the fact that Uenoyama resembles Yuki is concerning too because as this person said it does seem like the story is more about Mafuyu and Yuki rather than Mafuyu and Ritsuka.

In my head, Mafuyu is having a hard time accepting the fact Yuki is gone. He distanced himself, changed schools, changed friends but he kept the guitar. And through that guitar he found Ritsuka. It all goes back to Yuki and that's evident in the newest chapter when we take a look into his heart and we see Yuki still there. It's normal for Yuki to still be there, he will never truly leave Mafuyu's heart or mind and a part of Mafuyu is gone with Yuki. His heart will never be the same. It will never fully heal.

However I also feel it is important for the author to show this. It is important for us to see that Mafuyu isn't healed. He is clinging onto Ritsuka because Ritsuka resembles Yuki but also because he brings some sort of calm to his heart. Losing the person who means the most to you and partially because of your words is the worst feeling in the world. For someone as bad st expressing his emotions like Mafuyu it is absolute hell because he can't even scream or cry it out. He's just left with that feeling of pain.

I don't know what the author has planned but I do feel like what shes doing isn't wrong. She wants to make it clear that Mafuyu isn't the same. That Mafuyu is still mourning. That Mafuyu hasn't let go of Yuki. And if we're honest at this point Mafuyu is shaken, lost and in need if something to hold onto so it's not strange that he chose someone who resembles Yuki.

Personally, I believe that there will be a moment when Ritsuka confronts Mafuyu about it. We can clearly see he is bothered by the fact Mafuyu looks sad when they're together because he thinks of Yuki and I don't believe anyone appreciates their lover thinking of someone else when they're together.

So even though I'm sure Ritsuka understands why this happens I highly doubt he will be able to live with it for long. I believe at some point he will break and he will talk to Mafuyu about it and Mafuyu will be lost because I don't believe he has truly fallen for Ritsuka.

To close this rant, I want to say that even though I do believe Mafuyu and Ritsuka will fall in love I don't think that's happened yet. At least on Mafuyu's part I think that his heart and mind are still filled with Yuki so he can't truly and honestly love Ritsuka as much as he wants.

I do hope however that he will be able to move on and allow himself to let go of Yuki so he can finally heal as much of his heart as possible.

Thanks for the response. I would like to clarify some stuff. I do believe Mafuyu loves uenoyama. I do not think uenoyama and Yuki look similar. I thought Mafuyu saw them as similar because they both played guitar. What I don’t like is that Mafuyu seems to be at war with his feelings for Yuki and his new ones for uenoyama. Mafuyu should not have confessed to him and start dating. I don’t know if he knew uenoyama felt the same, but this whole story would have been a lot easier to accept if Mafuyu and uenoyama were still just friends and uenoyama could help him heal without feeling insecure about his place in Mafuyu’s heart because he never made him think he liked him. But Mafuyu confessed to him, but he’s still mourning his ex, and now uenoyama is comparing himself to Yuki. Mafuyu made this whole thing more complicated by agreeing to date him. And it’s so frustrating to me that I think they should break up because no one seems to happy in this relationship. Uenoyama is feeling inferior every time he notices Mafuyu depressed about Yuki. And Mafuyu is still in mourning. Also, I just want uenoyama to feel some love cuz he’s obviously not getting it from his boyfriend. And the more they focus on Yuki and talk about how talented, how cool, how strong he was, I feel it’s just making uenoyama feel smaller in comparison. Looking at the separate pairing of Haruki and Akihiko, I get the theme of this anime, at least what I think, is being able to move on from a first love, because you’ll find it again. Akihiko got out of a bad relationship and fell for Haruki and he was able to move on. So, if these pairings are supposed to be parallels of each other about moving on, then Mafuyu should eventually have to move on, because holding onto your dead ex’s memory through your new relationships is not healthy. Uenoyama is the Haruki in this situation where yeah, like u said he may get to a point where he can’t take being number 2 and confronts Mafuyu. And I wouldn’t blame him. I sympathize with Mafuyu but that’s no reason to neglect your current boyfriend who is completely lost. Mafuyu doesn’t seem to notice how his actions affect uenoyama. And I don’t know if I can pull for a couple where it’s one person pining for another’s attention.

What I wanted to say in relation to your post is firstly that Mafuyu is a 16 year old boy and even though he is mature for his age he is still a teenager.

That means, in my opinion, that he makes mistakes. With his inability to properly show emotions (and this is something I'm very familiar with because I am like him in that aspect) he clings onto whatever brings him comfort.

First it was the guitar, now it's Ritsuka. Losing your loved one, your first love at such a young age and to suicide is a huge shock. Mafuyu doesn't realise that he hasn't fully come to terms with it or he may know it and still cling onto Ritsuka for some comfort.

The relationship is toxic for both sides because a) Ritsuka is feeling inferior like you said and b) Mafuyu isn't moving on.

Like I said before I don't know what the author has in mind but I can see that this is a set up for confrontation. They may break up but also they may just have a huge fight, separate for a bit, figure things out with themselves and then become a couple again.

Regardless, I don't think this relationship will remain as is. In a previous post I've said that I think the reason Mafuyu can't debut is because debuting means leaving Yuki behind and starting something new with someone new for good. So I think that maybe what Mafuyu needs is for Ritsuka to tell him to his face that he is not Yuki
