What’s up just a reminder that the Hula Girl stereotype can go to hell and is in part responsible for Hawai’i being the tourist destination and getting invaded by rich white people, and for Hawaiian culture being disrespected and appropriated

However, I want to remind everyone on OFMD tumblr that NO ONE in OFMD has a canon sexuality, with the possible exception of Lucius, whose mum thought he liked girls for years.

You can head canon anyone however you like, but neither Ed nor Stede has a canon sexuality, and insisting that they do rings my biphobia alarm.

Sorry to be that person but do you have any sources of the “pro-Palestine content” Taika has interacted with? I keep seeing people talk about him liking posts and I want to believe it but I haven’t been able to find anything.

and before anyone starts, i’m not calling him an activist for liking social media posts. no one needs praise for recognizing what’s happening is genocide. but labelling him something as serious as a zionist and harassing/wishing harm on him for signing one poorly-worded letter about freeing hostages in october (and i won’t even get into all of the alleged bullshit that went down surrounding those letters) when there is literal proof he has and continues to support a liberated palestine is so senseless.

i have learned more about animals through documentaries and content i've consumed online. have you actually ever read the information placards at zoos and aquariums? i have. very rarely do they have indepth information. most of the time it's basic, surface level stuff you could have looked up by yourself with a simple google search.

and this is assuming people ACTUALLY READ THEM. ive been to zoos and aquariums. most people rush right past them or are too busy antagonizing or gawking at the animals to bother reading them.

you dont need to look at an imprisoned animal to learn about it. watch a documentary or look up information online. kids can read books or have books read to them.

i think if you want a child to love animals or show an interest in animals, expressing that they dont need to be exploited is a good first step

I did sports in college and the day before every tournament we'd go to Olive garden and eat as much pasta as possible. carb loading.

and literally every year the freshmen were like "you want us to eat carbs? Bc this was peak diet culture days. And yeah bc carbs make you strong the next day. You can do high intensity anerobic exercise for a long ass time after eating carbs. it was like having pasta superpowers

We'd be bringing sugary drinks to competition to keep up the energy and getting burgers and milkshakes after to recover. And all that was healthy af

You need protein to repair damaged muscles, and fats to break down vitamins and give you energy so anything that tells you any of the macros are bad for you? It's eating disorder shit, macros are literally the 3 nutrients your body needs in large quantities to survive. and sugar? That's the shit you need when you need energy Right Now.

One of the most horrifying conversations that I've ever heard, was when my (then under ten) niece and nephew told my mum that pasta, potatoes and rice were all unhealthy foods and that she shouldn't be making them dinner with them. Because they were Bad For You.

Apparently the school they were in at the time had told them All About The Evils Of Carbs. And how they should be avoiding them all.

Carb loading has it's place definitely (I used to do it a lot pre-days where I knew I was going to be doing it a lot of heavy lifting for work). But honestly so does just eating carbs.

But we really need to get people to stop saying terrifying things like "pasta only fills you up with empty calories"

Because OP is right, it fills you with love and warmth (and most importantly pasta).

But it also fills you with energy. And, if you are still growing, it fuels your growth.

If your blood sugar is all over the place, you get extremely tired after meals or very sick before/between meals, it can be very beneficial to look at your carb (and overall macro) intake. Because having regular, sufficiently caloric meals with a mixture of carbs, fats and proteins helps stabilize your blood sugar. It helps avoid feeling sick and angry from low blood sugar and tired from blood sugar swings after meals. Your body needs enough food and your body needs regular food. Every. day. of your life.

The suggested caloric intake range originates from a cruel and inhumane starvation experiment the 'canadian' colonial state enacted on indigenous children. It is the lowest possible caloric requirement for a CHILD to stay (barely) alive. Because...

Your basal metabolic rate is between 1400 - 2000 ALONE. Do you know what a BMR is? It's the amount of calories your body consumes just being alive. Not doing ANYTHING. Just breathing, maintaining consciousness, and maintaining homeostasis. 1400 - 2000 calories. Just to be alive. Laying in bed and breathing.

Stress and under-eating are FAR more likely to give you insulin resistance problems than carbs and sugars. If you do not get enough sugars (which your body likes to extract from digested carbs) your liver will manufacture a potent form of glucose which over time can cause spikes and instability. Because that's not supposed to be a long term option- it's something your body does as a safety measure.

Fasting can raise cortisol and a lot of the 'light, energized' feeling ppl extol from fasting is bc the body is pulling out all its stops. When you don't eat, your body isn't ~happily cleansing~ (which it would only relatively do if you were on a particularly toxic diet), it thinks you're stuck in a fallow valley and has enacted Last Ditch Energy Protocols to give you enough adrenaline, cortisol, glucose etc to motivate and fuel you so you can get somewhere with starches. It isn't relieved, it thinks you need a hail mary to live.

Your brain is the most calorie hungry organ in your body. It is made of cholesterol and runs off of SUGAR. If it doesn't have enough of either it will eat itself and the rest of you.

IRT the above, when a person hasn't slept their brain backs up with cellular waste and its function depreciates. The irony is that the lower the function, the less you are capable of judging how well you're doing-- a tired person will increasingly underestimate just how impaired they are. .....THIS APPLIES TO CALORIE DEPRIVATION.

TL;DR if you don't eat enough you get brain rot and this is why I don't trust diet/fitness influencers who always talk bad abt carbs. Their brains are actively underfunctioning but no one clocks this bc our society is obsessed with being skinny and rewards them for their hyperfixation on leanness.

I need to add that it has been found that inflammation due to stress-induced cortisol buildup has been found to be a precursor in a majority of conditions previously blamed on cholesterol (it actually doesn't stick to blood vessels unless those blood vessels are inflamed!), sugar ('lifestyle' diabetes isn't caused by eating sugar, it's caused by stress-induced hormone changes to the body's metabolism) and fat (ppl don't get fat bc they ~ate too much~ they either just are fat which is fine or they have hormone / metabolic issues one of which can be STRESS which can *cause* dietary changes but those are a SYMPTOM not a CAUSE). Heart attacks? Cortisol. Not cholesterol.

It's just not really useful to a fatshaming wage slave society to admit this since the truth is 'overworking ppl and making them feel bad about themselves and hopeless about life while depriving them of good food resources and community is the real danger, not a donut' bc then they can't DARVO you.

This is also why ~concern~ trolling fat ppl bc you ~care about their health~ is actually way worse for them than almost any diet they can have. People are different shapes and eat different stuff. Deal with it.

And all the communities skinny-fluencers point to as having 'bad food habits' are heavily oppressed financially exploited minorities. There...might be a reason for that. It's probably not that they're just ~too stupid and undiciplined~ to eat salads 3x a day.
