A toothy grin formed on the former’s face, and the latter laughed with her.
Uchiha Sarada clapped her little chubby hands and reached out to hug her mama, to which Uchiha Sakura immediately obliged. The cute one year old proceeded to do her baby talk – as if telling her mother a story. The medic was more than happy to respond in the same way. Their conversation was incomprehensible, yet the two understood – the bond formed from the womb connected their hearts and words were not needed.
From afar, the man of the household looked on, a gentle smile which he only shows to his family decorating his face. Uchiha Sasuke just came home from a meeting with the Hokage, and dropped by the grocery store to buy some stuff as requested by his wife.
Sarada saw her papa at the door, and then opened up her arms for him to hug her. Of course, he always found it hard to deny her anything. As Sakura prepared their dinner, Sasuke took it upon himself to keep their princess busy. As their little girl talked to her papa, the Sharingan holder felt warmth in his heart.
The family of three settled down on the sofa of their living room after supper, taking the time to watch the news. When it was time for commercials, Sakura switched the channel and came upon the show that showcases different celebrities every week.
“Anata, she’s the one that I talked to you about – Mitsuhide Ayame,” the pinkette exclaimed.
“She was the one who Fujikaze Yukie referred to as someone who can be as good as her, right?”
Sakura nodded. “Yep. I haven’t watched her movies yet though. She has one coming up… maybe they’re promoting it now.”
Sure enough, the host opened up the topic of the movie.
“So, Mitsuhide-san, what would you choose? Be happy or be content?”
The rising star smiled. “There are some things in life that seem so similar yet strangely different at the same time. Happiness and Contentment are two peas in a pod. To put it simply, they are like identical twins. Though they may be similar at first glance, they have a thin line of difference which we could tell apart after some time with them. Are you contented because you’re happy or are you happy because you’re contented? Would you rather be happy or contented? Which would you choose between the two?”
Sakura nodded. “Hmm… she’s not like some of the dumb actresses nowadays ne, Sasuke-kun?”
The movie star continued answering. “If it will all point down to one, I’ll give my vote to the latter. To be content means to be happy of what you have. Yeah, you may be happy, but you may not be contented. When you are in a state of euphoria, you want more of it. For example, you may be happy with having a big mansion now. But after some time, as you are exposed to the many faces of the world, that happiness will give way to envy of others, greed, discontentment, or all of it. You would not be happy anymore. It is man’s nature to want more of what he has and get what he wants. Despite having everything, we want more. Our life would be a constant search for something better. That kind of life has a temporary happiness. We may be happy today, but we can’t be sure if we will stay that way by tomorrow or even by the days, weeks, and months that will follow.
“If we are content, there is this special kind of happiness that words still fail to express. Some would sneer and say, “Why are you content with that? Don’t you have the guts to aim for something better?” Yes, I do have the guts. I have the guts to see beyond the point of view of many people and thus I know that yes, I may find something better but it can’t give me the feeling of being contented. I will not succumb to man’s greed. I will not succumb to the temporary cravings that will lead me to discontentment. I will not succumb to the sweet lies of being happier in another pasture. If you’ve reach heaven, what’s more to aim? To be content is not to just lie there and do nothing. I believe contentment is more of a state that few could achieve especially in this tempting world of ours. We would focus on our blessings and be thankful for all of it. When we are content, we are fulfilled. When we are content, we can truly say that we are indeed ‘happy’ - truly, madly, deeply.”
Sasuke looked at his side, to his wife and daughter. Sarada was quietly drinking her milk from her feeding bottle, her eyes starting to close. Sakura’s head rested on his shoulders, and he could see the faint smile on her face.
Sasuke blurted out, “Sakura… are you happy? Content? With me?”
She looked up to him, surprised at first with his question, and then gave him a loving smile. “I’m both happy and content with you, Sasuke-kun.” Sakura took her husband’s lone hand and returned the question to him.
“Are you happy? Content? With me?”
He kissed her forehead with all the love in the world. “More than you will ever know.”
Note: This isn’t what I planned to write for the last day of SasuSaku Week 2018, but my still sick mind and body couldn’t finish it since it was a bit long and so I had to resort to another quick word vomit. The actress’ words were actually from an old essay I wrote so… yeah… I just really want to complete the 7 prompts on time~ and I did yay
