#i’m sorry leftmost kitchen drawer
kicking off puzzlejune early because i'm impatient and wholly incapable of waiting 3 more days
[freeze frame] yeah, that’s not me. I don’t know who that is. [unpause]
"Who would want to kill the thing that makes maps like this?"
Baru would. Because she would never share this world with Tain Hu. She would never point from a ship's mast and say, See that mountain? I've named it for you.

i started reading book 3 of masquerade very recently but i'm still devastated about the monster baru cormorant. some notes about this piece under the cut!
I'm apparently so consistently aroace that a friend of mine uses me as a measurement for whether or not something counts as "romantic," based on when I stop understanding what he's talking about.
@loraxofygg Stop being funnier than me on my own post (/j).
Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.

you're so right hen
Who Gets Out Of The Death Arena Alive?
Hannibal Lecter (NBC's Hannibal)
Steven Universe (Steven Universe)
get mad. get rageful. debate all you like because im sending them to the death arena and you can't stop me
I love how all the notes are like "one of these is Just A Guy and the other one is a monster-fighting superhero with alien magic powers"
I think Steven would kill him but like. on accident. He’s not very used to fighting enemies that can’t recover from almost any wound. After, he would be left with the moral dilemma of whether he should bring him back to life though.
oooooh i got plany of disk space
sanjis big question

Mutuals feel free to pick me up and drop me off in front of prime real estate that’s all mine
I will be scared but I will appreciate it
washing dishes is evil because you go "oh fuck there's so many dishes this is gonna take foreverrr" and then you enter the dish abyss and emerge with your abdomen somehow covered in water and your hands all wrinky and then you look at the clock and what felt like half an hour was actually 10 minutes
doing laundry is evil cause you put it in the machine and go "okay i have a bit of time to relax before i have to take it out" and then you sit down and check your phone for the time and it's already been 40 minutes and you have to get up to take the laundry out
history fucked me up
oxford was built and operational as a college before the rise of the mayans and cleopatra lived in a time nearer to pizza hut’s invention than to the pyramids being built
I need a noncomprehensive history book that covers Known World History in time periods, like “in this century, all this shit was happening concurrently” and not just all spread out so I have to piece it together like some unpaid uneducated scholar
You mean like this?
The Timetables of History by Bernard Grun
I grew up with this book, which is frickin’ enormous, and it was endlessly fascinating to young me to pour over the side by side comparison of events taking place concurrently under different headings and in different parts of the world.
Or if you want something you can put on your wall, there’s this:
World History Timeline
I had this book! My grandpa gave it to me and it was really freakin useful!!
I loved this book! Same for The Timetables of Science: A Chronology of the Most Important People and Events in the History of Science.
Same for The Timetables of Technology: A Chronology of the Most Important People and Events in the History of Technology. Great references!
okay but here’s an even cooler (free!) visualization that goes a step further and tracks ideas, devices, infrastructures, and systems of power
Calculating Empires: A Genealogy of Technology and Power Since 1500
✨️with a special focus on colonialism, militarization, automation, and enclosure✨️
You can spend hours upon hours exploring this
I just keep thinking about how Ryland Grace used to be a regular at his local diner.
