Paranoia engulfed Pete like a thick heavy blanket as he watched Badger exhale a plume of smoke. The two had been on a 3-day crystal binge without an end in sight. The lack of sleep was getting to Pete, but Badger looked ready to run a marathon.

         Badger passed the pipe and the scante over to Pete, then he dove into some half-brained Star Trek rant. Something about soup and a replicator. Pete couldn’t get himself to pay attention. A shadow caught his eye from deep in the house. He froze in place. His face twisted up in fear.
