but how Great would it feel to be someoneâs first choice
Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.Â
What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?
Absolutely get rid of all AR-15âČs and the like.
Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driverâs license:
permit to learn
includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you donât gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
If youâre a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
This doesnât cover everything but I think itâs a good place to start.
Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?
I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.
So there once was this wasp that lived in a jungle. This was not your ordinary wasp though-he was smart, philosophical even. One day he finally got fed up with his repetitive, insignificant life and decided that he would leave his hive, his family, his entire close-knit wasp community and he would go out into the world and make something of himself, just like the humans do. So the wasp enrolls in school, and passes with flying colors. Remember, this is a very smart wasp. He gets his high school diploma in a little under 3 years, with a 4.0 GPA and all that snazz. After high school, believe it or not, the wasp gets accepted to Harvard. Harvard! This too proves to be no challenge for our hero, as he graduates in just two years, again a 4.0, on the Deanâs list, and all that snazz. Not to mention all the clubs and sports he was in-the newspaper, rowing, student government-and the fact that he was by far the most popular student on campus. Even his professors looked up to him.
He goes on to get two PhDs, and when he finishes his education, the wasp faces a bit of a dilemma. How does he apply his knowledge now? Where does he go from here? He decides to try out politics. After all, he was popular throughout school, did well in Harvard government. So he runs for mayor, and wins in a landslide. He greatly reforms the city, fixing virtually all its major problems. He runs for governor and again wins in a landslide. Two years later, the presidential election was coming up, and the wasp decides he might as well go for it.
Of course, he wins in the largest landslide in US presidential history. His presidency goes exceedingly well-he is loved by all parties, and has the highest approval ratings in history. He also finds the cures for cancer, AIDS, and broken hearts while in the White House. After 8 years (yes, of course he was reelected) the time has come for him to leave his office. Even his successor his saddened by the waspâs departure, but they all know itâs what must be done. Back at his vacation home in California his first day after leaving office, the wasp looks back on his long and fruitful life. He realizes that he hasnât been back to his hive at all since that first day he left. He suddenly feels a twang of guilt as he realizes how much he misses his parents and his little brother. So he heads back to the hive, looking more worn out than he remembers. He goes inside and greets his family, who are overjoyed at the sight of him. He talks about how his life has gone as his family listens in wonderment. Eventually he decides he is thirsty, so he decides to visit the old watering hole he remembered. Once he gets there though, thereâs an extremely long line. He decides itâs worth the wait, so gets in line. One hour. Two hours. This is the slowest moving line heâs ever seen! Eventually he calculates that it could be a few days before he gets to the front of the line, so decides itâs not worth it. He decides to go get some cider to drink instead, but waddya know, another huge line of people waiting for cider! He remembers one other drinking area that never had a long line-fruit punch! So he decides to go get punch. He arrives, and lo and behold, thereâs no punch line.

Thatâs not even a black tie tho
My body is like a temple. Well, more like a Catholic church. Full of wine and bread.
and guilt
And images of beautiful crying people and half naked men suffering
Yall are dark.
Where is the lie, though?
This legitimately upsets me.
⊠Yâsee, now, yâsee, Iâm looking at this, thinking, squares fit together better than circles, so, say, if you wanted a box of donuts, a full box, you could probably fit more square donuts in than circle donuts if the circumference of the circle touched the each of the corners of the square donut.
So you might end up with more donuts.
But then I also think⊠Does the square or round donut have a greater donut volume? Is the number of donuts better than the entire donut mass as a whole?
Hrm.
HRM.
A round donut with radius R1 occupies the same space as a square donut with side 2R1. If the center circle of a round donut has a radius R2 and the hole of a square donut has a side 2R2, then the area of a round donut is ÏR12 - Ïr22. The area of a square donut would be then 4R12 - 4R22. This doesnât say much, but in general and throwing numbers, a full box of square donuts has more donut per donut than a full box of round donuts. The interesting thing is knowing exactly how much more donut per donut we have. Assuming first a small center hole (R2 = R1/4) and replacing in the proper expressions, we have a 27,6% more donut in the square one (Round: 15ÏR12/16 â 2,94R12, square: 15R12/4 = 3,75R12). Now, assuming a large center hole (R2 = 3R1/4) we have a 27,7% more donut in the square one (Round: 7ÏR12/16 â 1,37R12, square: 7R12/4 = 1,75R12). This tells us that, approximately, weâll have a 27% bigger donut if itâs square than if itâs round.
tl;dr: Square donuts have a 27% more donut per donut in the same space as a round one.
god i love this site
canât argue with science. Heretofore, I want my donuts square.
more donut per donut

How to be kind to yourself this results day â€
So I have left it a bit late to write this but it being A level (and GCSE and AS level) results day tomorrow in the UK I thought I would make a post about dealing with the nerves and the aftermath of receiving results. I know it is something I and many of my friends struggled with this time 4 years ago (wow I feel oldâŠ!), and I definitely couldâve done with some help because I had a difficult couple of days ahead of me. So here are a collection of tips/advice for tomorrow. Some you may find helpful, others not, we are all different! But hopefully you can take something away from this.
You canât change anything now. Your exams are done, and whatever it is going to say on that piece of paper tomorrow is already there. The best thing you can do right now is try to help yourself get through the day and process the results so that you can move on in a productive way.
This may feel important, and it is, but it is not the end of the world if it doesnât go your way this time. You can go to your insurance choice. You can take a gap year and reapply to university next year. You might have to take a different path to achieve your goals, but it is important to remember that there are other paths! And at the end of the day, you can never know what your life wouldâve been like - it might be that another path is actually the best path for you! I am not a superstitious person so I am not going to say everything happens for a reason, but sometimes things are beyond your control. Let life take you the way it wants to take you; sometimes itâs easier that way.
You are more than your results. You are beautiful and worthy and valid and loved! Think of all of the things in your life apart from your education: family, friends, sports, hobbies etc. All of these things are valuable and good. Yes education is important but it is not all there is to life! Try to be thankful of all of the other things that you have. Make a list if you think it will help you!
Your results are not the sum total of the past year. Think about everything youâve learned and achieved, both academic and personal, over the last 12 months. You are a different person to the one you were at the beginning of this, and that is a good thing! You have grown into a better version of yourself. Be proud of that. Be proud of all of the hours you put in. Even if you feel you could have (or should have) done better, recognise that you were trying your best at the time (even procrastination is a legitimate struggle!). Try to find some love for the version of yourself that made those mistakes. They deserve it!
Try to see your results in a balanced way. Maybe you didnât get that A in Spanish that you were hoping for, but you surpassed your expectation in Chemistry! Whatever your results, I guarantee you there are positives to be taken from them.
Failure is valuable and necessary. When I found out that I hadnât made my offer, I thought I would fall apart. Of course I was devastated. But if I hadnât failed, I would never have learned how to better myself. Failure helped me to understand how the fear of failure itself was holding me back, and how I could overcome that fear. I would not be the person I am today if I had made my offer, and the struggle and the fight it took to get me back to where I wanted to be showed me how strong I actually was, and how failure was not something I needed to fear anymore. It sounds counter intuitive, but failure helped me to believe in myself, because I know now that I can bounce back.
Give yourself time to celebrate/process. Whatever happens tomorrow, please take some time off to be kind to yourself/do something you love! Even if you do have work to do now, it is SO important to deal with any negative emotions you are feeling, and to look after yourself, so that when you do start work again you are in a good frame of mind to do so.
Good luck to everyone! And if anyone needs to vent, my inbox is always open. I am sending so much love your way right now, I hope you can feel it! x x x
