I think a lot of the transandrophobia discourse stems from the idea that transfems and transmascs are parallel and inverse. If a transfem experiences one thing, then transmascs must experience the same thing but opposite. In reality, there are gonna be challenges that transfems face that have no transmasc equivalent, challenges that transmascs face that have no transfem equivalent, and challenges that both face in similar or only slightly different ways. That's not even accounting for nonbinary and intersex people who have a whole host of their or challenges outside of this rigid framework we've recreated.

it's such a thing that when they were children, olruggio was basically functioning as qifrey's walking talking emotional intelligence, and now as they've grown up qifrey has in many ways pulled ahead of him in that regard. arguably we see the positions reversed quite often in the current day, where qifrey lays out the emotional intricacies of situations or problems that mostly leave olruggio scratching his head -- like explaining where richeh's distress and obstinacy comes from, or explaining to agott what olly doesn't, can't or won't about her idea of joining the procession.

like from how expertly we see olruggio handle the noble wrangling in chapter 39 or how he does get through to agott with the 'what is magic for' convo it's not like he doesn't have the insight for fine social maneuvering that way at all, but in their personal lives he seems to struggle a bit more. qifrey needed to up his emotional insight both for raising/teaching children and for Scheming gaslight girlboss gatekeep reasons I guess it was kind of a pressing necessity in a different way for him (and olly gave him a head start/crash course early on. lest we ever forget qifrey was literally fished out of a coffin as an enforced blank slate like a week before he met olruggio. under the circumstances I think he's doing amazing actually)
