okay okay i gotta be honest.

I hated hedwig and the angry inch, all things considered. no shade if you like it—i see why someone might, but it really rubbed me the wrong way.

obviously, it's a nineties film. it's gonna be nineties. and it did have a story to tell and themes to express but even considering its time it expressed them horribly. while hedwig is nonbinary and not a trans woman, and the detransition at the end was meant to represent being able to explore their identity again without trauma... being coerced into transition by a romantic partner and your mother as a means to an end to get out of a bad situation and then detransitioning at the end is... certainly a choice. it was also an incredibly rough choice to have the entire plot be about the same trans character's ex-relationship with a minor.

so, we've got... child predator groomed into being trans fem and regretting it. I don't think I have to explain how that irked me as terfy as shit even despite the time period. not to mention the botched bottom surgery, which just reads as HEAVY fear-mongering in this context.

so, while the movie certainly had good music and some themes i related to, i fucking hated it. my parents had wanted to watch it with me because they love it and consider it some, like, heartbreaking trans story, but it's really really fucking not. my parents are supportive, but... jesus H. christ, liking that as a CIS person and not even mentioning how you know its problematic as shit when watching with your trans son??????????

anyways, rant over, i just have one more thing to say: this is all my personal, subjective OPINION. everybody may have their own OPINION. feel very free to add yours RESPECTFULLY if you wanna share, i heart discussion :)

I know people say that rocky was all alone in space with no one to watch him sleep for 46 years, but imagine if little Grace slept under the stars, wondering what was up there, unknowingly watching his soon-to-be best friend sleep, keeping him safe. Imagine Grace not knowing, but him wanting to go look at the sky at random times, always when rocky wanted to sleep. Imagine rocky trying to stay awake, but at one point, he falls asleep, unable to stay up any longer. Imagine rocky falling asleep, but he's not worried or scared. He feels safe.
