love your work very deeply. do you feel like your writing style for your fic differs from your original work? do you have any fics or fic adjacent things you’ve read that have inspired the way you think abt + craft your work? your voice is so distinct and genuinely refreshing. xoxo an admirer
Thank you this is really kind! Honestly no. In the latter half of my fanfic career I really feel like I’ve just been writing original fiction with characters inserted into it if that makes sense. Which is part of the reason I decided to just make the dive and write something original.
This is going to get some boos from the audience but I always have really admired Stephen King for his ability to make his writing straightforward and compelling. Sarah Waters, Jeffrey Eugenides, and Barbara Kingsolver are other big influences. I also take a lot from movies. The Cohen Brothers in particular have been really influential on me, Rob Reiner, PT Anderson, and lately Jane Shoenbrun.
Anyway, thanks for caring enough to ask! Writing fanfic can sometimes feel like a small potatoes endeavor and talking about being influenced by legit artists a bit silly. But I appreciate that people like my work enough to wonder what influences it :)
