I love writing angst of my favourite characters. HOWEVER. You will never catch me writing OR reading Shen Jiu angst. While he is not my fave he is still a character I really like, and for some reason I can’t read angst about him because I immediately start ugly crying I swear. Like ok I ugly cry with all angst but with Shen Jiu angst? It feels like I’m being stabbed.

He’s been through enough just give him the happy life he deserves :(

i like the idea that no matter how rich you are, how close you are to the emperor, how influential your family is, you still have to find and climb the motherfucking stairs of cang qiong to prove your worth. that is, if you do find the stairs. it reinforces this idea that the mountains of cang qiong do inherently pick who gets to live and learn on it; meaning that even if you are a controversial figure, there was something special in you that spiritually-infused, possibly gods-blessed mountains allowed you to find its entrance.

no wonder cang qiong is one of the biggest four sects.

My favorite thing abt yqy in canon is that in a gathering of the sects and sect leaders he just looked everyone in the eye and lied. Everyone saw what happened, it happened 0.25 seconds ago, there's like 50+ witnesses, and he just Lies. Like oops... accident sorry I don't know what you mean? But they all saw it happen, and they all know his intentions he didn't care, he just shrugged it off and lied. What are they gonna do? correct him?

Even better was that Liu Qingge followed him immediately, 0 hesitation, he lied too. Sect leader and War God of CQM just lied to everyone and the response is, "erm well... i guess i Didn't see anything after all."

YQY blatantly lied and got away with it and I love that about him, this man is not a pushover. "It's said he can fight and win without even drawing his sword." YEA HE LIES AND MANIPULATES TOO it's called PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE. His title and standing is enough to get away with things no one else could.

One day I will talk about how the BSD fandom insists on reducing Oda and all his relationships - especially his relationship with Dazai - to the sole angle of “haha wholesome dad”. But for now I am thinking thoughts about how Oda had a hand in caring for Kousuke, Katsumi, Yuu, Shinji, and Sakura after his own childhood was probably nonexistent or cut short

It’s Oda’s calm here as he says goodbye to the kids that gets me more than anything. Just a few minutes ago he was screaming at the top of his lungs. Now he’s immediately back to his stoic self, but the fact that he’s been irrevocably changed is so palpable. This isn’t even him resolving to walk into his death - there’s no resolution to be had. The kids are dead, and his reason to live his gone. The only possible next step for him is to get revenge for them and die in the process. “I’ll avenge you,” he says. His own death is a given, just an afterthought, not even worth contemplating.

One of the things that makes Soukoku interesting to me is that for all their perfect teamwork and soulmate-isms they're still fundamentally the opposite of what each other needs.

It's almost impressive that they can mean so much to each other and still not be friends. You would think that if you grew up with someone and trusted them with your life and could basically read their mind, they would fall into that category somewhere along the line. But because of their specific hang-ups they simply can't fulfill that role for each other. They need their respective friend groups to give them the love they're incapable of giving each other.

Dazai cares about Chuuya but there's still a metric ton of plausible deniability in anything he does for him that could be interpreted that way. When Chuuya is within earshot all he does is go on about "You're my dog/I let you get tortured on purpose/I wanna mind control you to be my maid/I let corruption go on too long because it was fun to watch/etc". That's the opposite of what Chuuya needs. He needs to hear the words "We did this because you're our friend. We protected you because we love you and we don't regret it." He needs there to be no room for doubt before he can really accept it.

Conversely can you even imagine Chuuya giving Dazai advice on how to improve his mental health? All Chuuya does is endure. If Dark Era Dazai asked Chuuya what he should do with his life Chuuya would either tell him to suck it up or to stop asking stupid questions. Again Chuuya cares about Dazai but not in a way that would actually help him.

They can trust each other with their lives but not their character development. Which is an interesting contrast to shin soukoku, who are presented as the key to each other's development.
