A woman was shopping in an old antique store in Sanford, Florida. The store sold stuff like old figurines, stuffed animals, porcelains, but this antique box is what caught the womanâs eye.
When she asked the owner how much the box cost, the owner was surprised, because he had never seen it before. He told her she could have the box if she bought something elseâshe did.
When she got home and opened the box, which was locked with a bent, rusted nailâshe was shocked. It had this strange hand made doll and a ring inside of it. The doll had some âcrunchyâ type material in it and the ring had a date (1969) on the outside of it (she assumed it was a class ring).
She decided to put the ring on and thatâs when things got a bit strange. Her dog wouldnât stop barking at it and she started having strange nightmares about a woman in white holding the box. She would also feel sick when she had the ring on. She ended up selling it on ebay for $51.
One of the most discussed and well documented alien abductions to date, the Allagash abductions, take place in The Allagash Waterway in Maine.
Twin brothers Jack and Jim Weiner, along with their friends Chuck Rak and Charlie Foltz(met in art school) decided to try some night fishing while on vacation in The Allagash Waterway. Before leaving the bank, they built an extremely large campfire to be a landmark light from the water.
While canoeing they saw a bright light which started to approach them after they shined their flash lights on it. Soon it was hovering above their heads and the next thing they remember is being back on the bank and wondering how their fire had been reduced to nothing but ashes, which shouldâve taken hours to happen. They noticed that they had lost a lot of time. They didnât really talk about it until they all started having the same nightmares.
In these nightmares, they saw beings with long necks, and large heads. The beings also had large metallic glowing eyes with no lids, and their hands were insect-like, with four fingers. They all had the same consistent descriptions of the beings and since they were artist, they could all draw the beings and the experience they had.
After psychiatric examinations all four of the men were deemed to be mentally stable, and they all passed lie-detector tests. All of the information gleaned from the detailed hypnotic sessions, and investigative reports provide strong evidence that something ânot of this worldâ was encountered by these four men on the Allagash Waterway in 1976.
One June 6th of 1980, Zigmund left his house to do some grocery shopping. When he didnât return for a family wedding the next day, his family started to get worried.Â
His body was found five days later (June 11th) in Todmorden next to a railway line. Trevor Parker, son of the coal yard owner, made the gruesome discovery PC Alan Godfrey was sent to investigate. His body was found face down on top 12 foot high pile of anthracite. He was found without a shirt, the rest of his clothes seemed like they were put on him by someone who had very little idea of how to put them on (both his shoes and pants were put on incorrectly). Even though he had been missing for 5 days, he only had a single day of beard growth. His neck and shoulders also had burn marks on them and forensics found that some kind of strange ointment was applied to them though they could not identify it.
Dr Alan Edwards, the consulting pathologist at the Royal Halifax Infirmary, conducted the post-mortem examination in Hebden Bridge just after 9pm that day he was found. Dr Edwardsâ professional judgment placed the time of death between 11am and 1pm on the day that Adamski was found, while the burns were two days old. The exact cause of death was a matter of such deliberation, that Adamskiâs death took Coroner James Turnbull several months to register. It was ruled as a heart-attack.
PC Alan Godfrey didnât believe that Zigmund died of a heart attack, he believed that Zigmund was abducted by aliens. Godfrey claimed that he himself had witnessed a UFO in Todmorden. He went to investigate what he thought was an overturned bus, but was shocked when he saw it hovering 5 feet above the ground. He claims that the next thing he remembers is being back in his patrol car driving off. He claims that he had similar burn marks and a strange green gel on his neck too. He was put under hypnosis and asked about his encounter. The 2nd picture is his sketch of the UFO and the aliens he had an encounter with. Godfrey stuck to his claims that Zigmund was abducted by aliens and dropped back after they used him for research.
Zigmundâs family believes it was a case of human abduction instead of alien abduction. They believe he was being held captive and died of a heart attack.
The âMontauk Monsterâ was an animal carcass thought to have washed up on the beach near the business district of Montauk, New York in July 2008. In the almost 10 years since, itâs origins and fate have been the cause of much speculation.
Montauk resident Jenna Hewitt and three of her friends claimed that they came across the creature on July 12, 2008. She told The Independent:Â âWe were looking for a place to sit when we saw some people looking at something... We didn't know what it was... We joked that maybe it was something from Plum Island.â The creatures body was said to have either been mysteriously removed from the scene, although there were also claims of it having decomposed to a skeletal state.
Scientists explanations for the corpse ranged from a sea turtle to a raccoon, while others have speculated that it may be a mutated animal created in Plum Islandâs Animal Disease Center. The Plum Island Animal Disease Center of New York is dedicated to the study of animal disease, although during the Cold War era the facility also tested biological warfare agents to create âcertain anti-animal agentsâ. This slowed towards the end of the 21st Century, however, and was confirmed as having ended in the mid 90s.
The most widely accepted explanation for this animal is a raccoon that has partially decayed. Director of Stony Brook University's Living Marine Resources Institute, William Wise, claimed the legs were too long in proportion to the body for this to be true. He believed the corpse to be fake, while his ânext best guessâ was a dog or coyote that had âbeen in the sea for a whileâ.
Each man wore a formal suit, a raincoat, and most bizarrely, a lead eye mask. The scene showed no signs of struggle or trauma. Instead, the bodies lay next to each other, partially covered by grass. Next to them was a bottle of water, a packet containing two wet towels, and a small notebook on which the words, â16:30 be at the specified location. 18:30 ingest capsules, after the effect protect metals await signal maskâ were written.
The intelligence and problem solving abilities of octupuses have baffled scientists for generations. However, a recent peer-reviewed study suggests that this can be explained by their alleged extraterrestrial origins. The study, named âCause of Cambrian Explosion - Terrestrial or Cosmic?â posits that the Cambrian Explosion (a sudden burst of life 540 million years ago) was the result of existing and primitive species being forced to rapidly evolve by alien viruses.Â
More specifically, the paper claims that the theoretical viruses infected primitive squids already present on earth, evolving them into what we now know as octupuses. The scientists write that the large brain, sophisticated nervous systems, instant camouflage abilities (through colour and shape), and overall flexibility and dexterity all appeared so fast in the octupusâ evolutionary history that, âit is plausible then to suggest they seem to be borrowed from a far distant âfutureââ. Other theories posited refer to octupus eggs traveling to earth in a natural cryogenic stasis within a meteor.
With no evidence to take the paper beyond a simple theory, it has been mocked and refuted by the scientific community. It is important to note that not a single one of the 33 scientists involved was a zoologist, and mainstream science does not have any doubts as to the origins or evolutionary history of octupuses. They are thought to have branched off the squid lineage 135 million years ago. It is also worth noting that squids share many of the characteristics of octupuses, including their ability to change their colour and shape.

A banshee is a female spirit in Irish mythology that appears to herald the death of a family member. Banshees are characterised by their screaming or keening (a vocal lament for the dead). Banshee translates in Irish as âwoman of the fairy moundâ, a name derived from the bansheeâs connection with burial mounds that are found throughout the Irish countryside.
Banshees are typically described as taking three forms: young, middle-aged and elderly. Some reports describe her as a washer-woman, who scrubs the blood stained clothes of those who are about to die. Banshees may also take the form of animals associated with witchcraft in Ireland, such as crows, stoats, hares and weasels.
The characteristic wail of banshees allegedly differs from county to county, and sightings of banshees were typical in great houses and courts of local Irish kings. King James I of Scotland also claimed to have had his murder foretold by a banshee who visited him in 1437. A similar creature known as the âHag of the Mistâ is also part of Welsh folklore, and is described as being invisible until the mist rises.
Pleiadians, also known as âNordic Aliensâ are an alleged extraterrestrial species. They are said to have travelled from the Pleiades star cluster. They are characterised by their Nordic appearance and their alleged concern for Earthâs future. They are typically 6-7 foot males with blonde hair and blue eyes, with skin tones ranging from fair to tanned. Sightings of such beings originated in the mid 1950s, and have declined since the 1960s.
Believers in Pleiadians describe them as being paternal, affectionate and watchful, and also describe them as having telepathic powers. Some claimants say the beings have warned them of the Greys, while others claim to have seen the two species in the same craft. Reports of their crafts range from spherical to cigar shaped.
It is rumoured that President Eisenhower met with a group of Pleiadians in February 1954 under the guise of an emergency dental surgery. The beings allegedly requested that the United  States disarm its nuclear missile programme in exchange for extraterrestrial technology. Believers in this theory state that no agreement was made. President Eisenhower is then said to have met with the Greys, who instead requested that they be allowed to abduct US citizens without question in exchange for technologies. This was said to be a successful meeting.
Atmospheric beasts are allegedly creatures native to the skies that possess the ability to fly without the use of wings. Eyewitness accounts describe them as being able to alter their density, from small and metallic in appearance to larger and more cloud-like (left). The more dense creatures are sometimes reported as having a form completely alien to us, while others report creatures with fins, eyes or mouths. Less dense creatures are often distinguished from clouds by their unusual movements and appearance. Â
Many people believe atmospheric beasts are low density creatures native to the skies (a theory supported by cryptid author Ivan T. Sanderson), while others theorise that they are aliens without a native planet, having originated in interstellar clouds of gas or in the atmosphere of another planet. Similar beings have also been part of folklore, being described as animate fog.
Atmospheric beasts are also often thought to be the cause of âstar jellyâ (right). It is theorised that the creatures become even denser upon death, causing them to fall to the earth and decay into a gelatinous mass, known as âstar jellyâ. Explanations for the existence of star jelly include regurgitated frogspawn, fructified slime mould and the products of cyanobacteria. Attempts to find DNA in star jelly by scientists has proven unsuccessful.
The Nightcrawler, also known as the Fresno Alien, is a cryptid that has made two appearances so far, one in Fresno, California and the other in Yosemite National Park. In both sightings, itâs only seen in video footage. It appears to be a relatively short creature (approx. 4 feet in height). It is an extremely thin, white humanoid with no discernible arms. It also appears to be wearing a white gown or cloak of some sort. {x}
The word âgiantâ (coined in 1297) is the English word for the almost worldwide mythology of gargantuan creatures with a human appearance. In mythology, giants are associated with themes of chaos and wild nature. They are also portrayed as beings that live in conflict with the gods. Like many other mythical beings, a select few have come forward in recent history claiming to have evidence that giants. The âevidenceâ, however, is debatable.
The size of giants wildly differs across the various mythologies they appear in, from 6 feet in some, to 6 miles in others. This size can even vary within the mythologies themselves. For example, the Philistine giant Goliath (left) is depicted in both 1st-2nd-century BC Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint (a Greek Bible) as being 6 feet and 7 inches tall â hardly a height of mythological proportion. The King James translation depicts Goliath as being 9 feet and 9 inches.
The most plausible theories to explain the existence of giants in mythology are both exaggeration of features and hyperplasia of the pituitary gland, hyperplasia being an increase in cell number causing the enlargement of an organ, and the pituitary gland being a gland which secretes human growth hormone. Both of these theories work from the basis that giants are Homo Sapiens, and not another species of human. Some, with little to no evidence, claim giants are an entirely new being altogether.
The tallest recorded man in history was Robert Wadlow (right, beside his father of 5 feet 11 inches), a man suffering from hyperplasia of the pituitary gland. At age 22, Wadlow died at 8 feet 11 inches, but showed no indication of an end to his growth at his time of death, suggesting that an even greater height is achievable in humans. However, the health difficulties associated with Wadlowâs conditions would likely be untreatable in ancient times.
The square-cube law can be applied to biomechanics to show that animals cannot be isometrically scaled up (retaining the same shape) past a certain point, meaning a giant as large as some sources state likely could not be recognisably human in form. Scientist J. B. S. Haldane stated that for the 60 feet giants in Pilgrimâs Progress, âEvery square inch of a giant bone had to support 10 times the weight borne by a square inch of human bone. As the human thigh-bone breaks under about 10 times the human weight, Pope and Pagan would have broken their thighs every time they took a step.â This website displays calculations to determine the maximum height of a human being, estimating 15 feet tall to be a reasonable maximum.
With supposed giant bones almost always being obvious hoaxes or misidentification, there is very little evidence that a supernatural species of giants walked the earth. In fact, the square-cube law alone makes an airtight case against the existence of humans the size of mountains, while hyperplasia of the pituitary gland may be responsible for giants of seven to fifteen feet, with possible exaggerations leading to reports of up to 30 feet.

The Dobhar-chĂș (Irish for âwater houndâ) is both an aquatic cryptid and a creature of Irish folklore (artists impressions top, bottom left). It is commonly described as a giant carnivorous otter with dog-like features, a âhaunting screechâ, flipper-like feet, and dark fur known for its protective properties. The creatures are said to be very fast, with the ability to travel great distances both on land and in water without tiring. Some reports describe the beast as fish-like, with some even going as far as to describe a fish tail similar to those reported on merfolk, although the majority of witnesses agree that the creature is wholly mammalian.
The creatures are known for their aggression, with many eyewitness accounts stemming from ferocious, unprovoked attacks from the beast, either against dogs or humans. They are said to travel in groups of two and will strategically work to drag a victim into the water, and will not stop until they have killed their victim. Due to this, many stories concerning the Dobhar-chĂș end in either a victimâs death or the creatureâs. When the beast is dying, it is said to let out a high-pitched whistle which alerts any nearby mates to assist in the attack.
One of the most prominent reports of the Dobhar-chĂș allegedly resulted in the death of one woman and two of the beasts in the 17th Century. The mutilated corpse of a woman, supposedly named GrĂĄinne, was found by her husband with the beast standing above her. The husband killed the beast, and it allegedly let out the high-pitched noise typically reported by those who have killed a Dobhar-chĂș, which alerted the beastâs mate, which was waiting in the Glenade Lough. The beast chased the man, but he reportedly killed it after a long and bloody battle. The womanâs headstone can be seen in Conwall Cemetery in Glenade, County Leitrim.
Sightings of the Dobhar-chĂș have become increasingly rare in modern times, with the most prominent recent sighting being in 2003, when Irish artist Sean Corcoran and his wife reported seeing it on Omey Island, an island on the west coast of Ireland (bottom left). During this sighting the beast allegedly crossed a lake âin what seemed like a matter of secondsâ before leaping onto a rock and letting out a âhaunting screechâ. Some believe the creature may be migratory, possibly explaining why it is not regularly seen in lakes, although some argue the rarity of modern sightings are down to extinction or endangerment.
Greys, often known specifically as âZeta Reticulansâ, are alleged extraterrestrial beings described in 43% of reported alien encounters in the USA (alleged photo above, artists impression middle left). Reports of their behaviour and theories of their origin can differ quite heavily, but their physical description is almost unanimously agreed on. They are typically described as hairless, grey-skinned humanoid beings of around 2 to 4 feet. They are said to possess enlarged heads, with large black eyes and no external organs such as ears and noses, but they often feature orifices in their place. Reports also describe a lack of a defined muscular system or skeletal structure and unusually proportioned limbs.
Their behaviour is described as cold and mechanical, and they often lack any kind of vocal communication, instead communicating by a telepathic method that humans can often understand when directed at them. Greys also allegedly possess the ability to illicit emotional, psychological or even hallucinogenic responses from abduction victims simply by staring at them. This process is often performed inches from a victimâs face, which has allowed for close observation of the face, which many abduction claimants have used to state that the Greys do not breathe through their mouth or nose.
Greys are almost never reported alone, instead travelling in groups, which are sometimes led by one or more âtall Greysâ. As the name suggests, these are Greys which can be anywhere between 3.5 and 6 feet in height, which are recognisable as authority figures from their âdemeanorâ. The tall Greys are said to be capable of more complex psychological functions, and dominate entirely over the regular Greys. Tall Greys are also often featured in theorised alien/government interactions.
The Greys have been said to have originated from the Zeta Reticuli star-system (below, according to Betty Hill) since the Betty and Barney Hill abduction 1965, after Betty Hill reported a star chart in the spacecraft she allegedly entered. However, other theories of their origin have also included the ideas that they may be more evolved, time travelling humans or that they may hail from another dimension or universe. Abduction claimants with a religious background have also been known to call the Greys âfallen angelsâ or demons.
There is much debate concerning the evolutionary feasibility of the Greys, as experts like reproductive biologist Jack Cohen believe that the similarities between their anatomy and ours (middle right) mean that the Greys cannot be an accurate representation of an alien that has developed on a planet with different environmental and ecological conditions than earth. Some people take this idea to mean that reports of Greys are hoaxes or delusions, while others believe the similarities indicate that mankind was subject to an evolutionary or genetic intervention by Greys, or that a form of convergent evolution may have occurred, a process by which similar features emerge in species of different lineages. If the extradimensional or time travelling theories were true, it could erase concern with these coincidences.
Due to the mechanical nature of the Greysâ alleged behaviour, some have theorised that the Greys were originally a slave race biologically engineered by superior beings. These theorists believe that the Greys are either still serving their masters, who remain behind the scenes, or that they have escaped them and established themselves as a race. Many believe that the reason Greys are so prominently featured in UFO and alien abduction reports is because the tall Greys have met with government officials across the world and made a series of agreements. Theorists believe that these agreements allow the Greys to abduct humans and experiment as they please in return for advanced technology, although no solid evidence has been seen of this.
Orang Pendek (Indonesian for âshort personâ) is the name given to a cryptid species of bipedal primates that supposedly inhabit forests in the central region of the Indonesian island of Sumatra (bottom, right). Witness accounts almost unanimously state that the Orang Pendek (above, sculpted impression) is a 3ft tall short-haired ape with a strong upper body and short slender legs.
Despite the Orang Pendekâs human qualities, eyewitnesses maintain that it is an animal, which leads researchers such as Debbie Martyr to assert that the Orang Pendek is not a hominid. This is supported by witnesses stating the creatures big toes are divergent (separated as a thumb is from fingers), which matches with supposed footprints of the creature (bottom, left). A primate biologist named Dr. David Chivers stated that a footprint cast he examined âpoints towards there being a large unknown primate in the forests of Sumatraâ.
However, many believe that the Orang Pendek could be a surviving species of human known as Homo floresiensis (bottom, middle), a 3ft tall hominid whose skeletal remains were found on a neighbouring island. The species, whose features mostly match the cryptid, was thought to have existed as recently as 12,000 years ago, increasing the likelihood that a pocket of their species could have survived.
Those who believe in the Orang Pendekâs appearance will note how it is often referred to by locals as just another animal of the forest, rather than a supernatural being of any kind. While this adds to the credibility of most reports, some still mention magical or spiritual behaviour when describing the creature.
âIn Search of Orang Pendek...â is the official website of a project dedicated to obtaining the first solid photographic proof of the Orang Pendekâs existence. The project aimed to obtain these photographs through a process known as camera-trapping. This was given a grant by National Geographic but the project requested crowdfunding to reach their goal of $15,000 a year to keep the project going. Unfortunately, the project yielded no solid evidence and has not been updated online since 2008.

The âStarchildâ skull (above) is a 900-year-old humanoid skull found in Mexico in 1930, which was buried beside a regular human skeleton. Paranormalist Lloyd Pye obtained it in 1999, claiming it was the hybrid offspring of a human and extra-terrestrial (bottom right, artists impressions).
Dental examination stated it was the skull of a 4-5 year old, and neurologist Steven Novella has claimed they likely died as a result of congenital hydrocephalus, which causes swelling of the skull (bottom left). Novella also concluded that the presence of both an X and Y chromosome (discovered in 1999 DNA testing) confirms the skull is wholly human.
A 2004 study found no inner erosion, conflicting with the hydrocephaly theory. DNA results from an undisclosed lab in 2012 compared a gene present with the corresponding human gene, noting 56 differences. This gene is identical in all apes, and bears only one difference between humans and monkeys. These results will need to be reproduced and verified.
The Starchild Project is an ongoing non-profit project led by the belief that the skull may be of partially inhuman origin. Their website offers plenty of interesting research supporting this theory, but offers little in the way of countering it.
