People (educators as well as others) believed that "the kids these days" were natives of the Internet and would just learn everything from immersion.

They did not count on computer and app manufacturers making the operations more opaque, deliberately. Used to be you could open up the back of your computer and add more RAM, now everything is screwed in place with six different kinds of screws thank you Apple. You need specialty screwdrivers just to even get into your machine.

Business related apps, files, and processes need to be explicitly taught. Art related apps files and processes also need to be explicitly taught, etc. Because you can teach yourself these things but you won't even know where your ignorance lies.

Tech literacy needs to be taught.
