Listen, okay based purely on my muse I might be biased. But that post that’s circulating that says the circle isn’t a prison??? Bad post. Bad bad post. Like yay, mages can leave….with permission (even though many times that’s overlooked). Yay 1 mage says they had a good experience, clearly that applies to everyone across every circle. Mages can hold titles and have families? Yay, so can the Slaves in Tevinter.

Now listen here, kiddos. Maybe *maybe* there’s some noble intention behind circles. To teach mages how to handle magic properly because it can be dangerous. But regardless of that mission statement, templars and mages alike are taught to fear magic, and the purpose of Templars is foundationally a divine practice that is rooted in rhetoric like “magic must be used to serve man, and never to rule over him.” Which inherently creates an imbalance of power and puts mages in a subservient role. You just cannot have a healthy relationship built on such unstable moorings.

Also, Calling the harrowing justified in any manner is just atrocious tbh. So you haven’t taught the mages to peacefully communicate with spirits and protect themselves and therefore they should die?? Okay. 😐

If you’ve done any outside reading of lore or any of the books beyond just the games then you’d know that frequently mages are treated worse than prisoners, and abused. i mean do we even need to talk about Cole??? A fear of magic and spirits can never foster a healthy and holistic education and practice of it. It simply can’t. And no amount of reformation will change that if the foundations of the chantry stay the same.

The Circles are bad and you should feel bad.

I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHY THIS HAPPENS. You see this all the time when there’s a fight or a scrum and suddenly everyone pairs up with a member of the opposite team and they just sort of …hold each other.

Someone on reddit asked about it. And it turns out there’s a logical-ish reason:

all of the other players pair off with their man to prevent anyone else entering into the fight … so it’s a form of self policing. 

[…] The players basically want to prevent 2 on 1, etc. fights and by finding a “hugging” partner so there’s no ganging up on one guy, even on accident. They do it because it’s fair. And it’s kind of cute sometimes.

so now we know! it’s fair…and cute.
