How to beat the elements: Eureka 101
So you found yourself lost in Port Surgate on a forsaken shore surrounded by all these strange monsters, either you skipped the introductory text figuring youâd rewatch it later or you missed it somehow.
You see people shouting stuff about trains, and fates and pazuzu and you have no idea what to do because monsters hit scary hard and wow
Donât worry, this guideâs here to help you out!
Progression:
Eureka has its own leveling system (elemental level) which is shared between all your classes, so youâll only have to level this once. As you level up, youâll gain access to more features of Eureka as well as being able to tackle stronger monsters and boss fates (technically theyâre ânotorious monstersâ, but they look, feel, walk, talk and work like boss fates)
Level 1: Entrance to Eureka, first Magicite (Iâll get back to this later)
Level 3: Second Magicite
Level 5: Third Magicite
Level 9: Access to the Aethernet shards
Level 13: Fourth Magicite
Level 17: Fifth (and last) Magicite, enables usage of mounts
Level 19: Access to the weapon upgrade material
Level 20: Current maximum level
The Magia Board and Magicite:
You are given a unique UI element in Eureka called the Magia Board which lets you (re)align your character to elements:
Each white cube you see is a âmagiciteâ block, which you earn as you progress through the levels; and adjusting (spinning) your board to proeprly align yourself to elements will increase youir offense and defense to a monster:
A Squib is an Elemental Level 1 mob, aligned to Water.
The Magia Board will light up as you target a monster and show you both the offensive and defensive Element you need for that mob â in this case, to increase my defense to this monsterâs attacks, Iâd need points in Water; to increase my damage dealt, Iâd need to have points in Lightning.
Since you can only assign points to your board at thev Magia Melder in the starting town, youâd think youâll have to run there every time you fight a different mob - well, no fear, you can spin your board, either clockwise or anticlockwise to change your elemental alignment:
Spinning the board is (in my opinion - your experience might differ) easier done with macro commands; /magialeft spins the board one position anticlockwise, /magiaright spins it one position clockwise; the number in the center is the number of times youâre permitted to change; when you spin the board you have 5 seconds to make as many changes in alignment as you want before the board âsetsâ and uses up one âchangeâ (the number in the middle) - this wil lrecover over time, and can be reset entirely by using the Magia Melder in the start town.
Gearing up:
In order to gear up you will need the i290 job gear you obtained from your level 70 job quest; if you threw it away, donât panic: you can repurchase it from the Calamity Salvager NPC, available in each of the three starting cities (Ulâdah, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa)
Gear upgrades (this applies to both weapon and armor) are done with Protean Crystals and Anemos Crystals.
No matter which stage upgrade youâ;re looking to do, Gerolt does them all.
To go from i290 to i335:
Weapon: 100 protean crystals
Armor piece (each): 50 protean crystals
To go from i335 to i340:
Weapon: 400 protean crystals
Armor piece (each): 150 protean crystals
To go from i340 to i345:
Weapon: 800 protean crystals
Armor piece: each: 400 protean crystals
To go from i345 to i350:
Weapon: 3 Pazuzu Feathers
Armor piece (each): 150 Anemos Crystals
Obtaining crystals and feathers:
Protean Crystals are obtained in two different ways; either by killing loads and loads of mobs or by going to Gerolt to exchange Anemos Crystals, which are earned from Boss Fate battles; the latter method is rather more efficient.
A single Anemos crystal exchanges for 2-5 Protean crystals, so as a rough rule of thumb you can count each Anemos as 3.5 proteans.
Pazuzu feather can only be obtained from the level 20 boss fate with its special spawn condition, you MUST be level 19 or higher to get these, if you are 18 or below you will only get crystals/experience.
Gameplay:
Finally after having laid out all the things Eureka is for, hereâs how people play there:
If you have a group to play together (light parties are possible, but full party is highly recommended) you can strike out on your own and trigger the various boss fates to advance that way; the boss fates do scale according to the number of people involved in triggering them,so you donât perse need a stampede to do them.
If you havenât got a group you can enter solo, but it is designed as group content, so do not expect to be able to achieve anythign solo .. fortunately, the commuinity has developed a playstyle called the âfate trainâ - simply shout for an invite (âlf fate trainâ seems to work the best), ask where they are (or look on the map where they are, and get to them and join up. You will likely die A LOT doing this and remember, once you pass level 5, DO NOT RES IN TOWN but wait to be ressurected since you will lose experience and you can delevel that way.
Still have questions ? Just pop me an ask, Iâll happily post followups and./or edit/amend this post!
Happy relic hunting!
