Further Clarification:
I refuse to accept Steve Rogers returning to the past to live out his days not because I ship him with anyone in the modern setting (even if I do, which I do), but because of the following:
He categorically stated that the wife-and-kids, picket-fences life was no longer what he wanted.
He spent several movies working to save the life of his best friend, at all costs; he would not abandon him after that.
He wouldn’t be able to live happily in the past knowing at the same time that Bucky was actively being tortured, brainwashed, and forced to kill.
He knew Peggy had lived a long and fulfilling life without him and would not take that away from her.
His found family had been decimated was badly hurting; he would not have abandoned them.
He could not live happily through (more) blatant systematic oppression based on race, religion, and sexuality after having experienced a future where these things are not universally acceptable.
He’s the guy who would jump on a grenade to save someone else. He’s not the guy to risk the future by changing the past for his own selfish reasons.
That’s it.
I’m still salty about it.
Seven years later, the whole concept of Steve and Bucky is just absolutely wild to me. they were like here have some Achilles and Patroclus parallels, only instead of dying for real they find each other again 70 years later. OH and one has been brainwashed to kill the other, but his lover breaks through to him by refusing to kill him and saying something that the brainwashed one said to him in his youth that happens to sound an AWFUL LOT like marriage vows. a dumb superhero movie accidentally created the most intense tragic love story I’ve ever seen and I’ll be mad about it for the rest of my life
THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER | 1.06
this is LITERALLY the funniest promotional piece that anyone has ever made for a tv show or movie ever
The best part is the story behind it. After Edgar Wright stormed off the project, this movie almost got canceled. It took Peyton Reed literally finishing it with his crew in a single year, and Paul Rudd contributing on the writing to get it done within the deadline. And apparently, because they had to rush production ON a reduced budget no less, the effects weren’t even close to done by the time they had to put out Trailers and TV spots, and most of what was finished, or near done, had to be used in the theatrical spots. So Rudd and Douglas here supposedly came up with this idea, on the spot, as it would at least get people talking and avoid reusing too many of the same shots.
I really miss the days when the weirdest thing science ever created was me.
Happy Birthday Steve Rogers - July 4, 1918
Y’all better be protecting Anthony Mackie with the same ferocity you have for your white faves. He put everything on the line to say this.
"If you only can hire the Black people for the Black movie, are you saying they’re not good enough when you have a mostly white cast?"
But my happiness in this world - my level of peace - is never going to be dictated by acting.
Falcon and The Winter Soldier - August 2020
before i watched thor ragnarok i didn’t quite understand the overflowing love for taika waititi everyone had on here, but after watching it, i’m like. he really did that. he really put in an intelligent subtext about colonization, whitewashing of history, and the immigrant experience in a movie about norse gods in space. in a fandom where straight white male voices are overwhelmingly dominant. while giving really interesting character arcs to everyone in the main cast. what a flex
