Blow into the dice, Â shake your palm, Â and let their dance decide your fate. Â Â At the turn of each century, Â this roll acts as the tableâs centrepiece. Nick eyes the father, Â he who fashions the die-cast of your future, Â and pitches closer to her. Â Â His head tilts back, Â and inevitably forward again. Â Â The typewriter never stops. Â Â Each key-press ticks like a second passed through the clock-hand. Â Â Dot, Â dot, Â dot. Â Â Its hands find their fingerprints in the keys. Â Â It locates itself. "I would say you would know if I was insulting you, but clearly it's beyond your comprehension." Another sharp comment not meant as an insult, though this one at least Lae'zel can concede sounds like one.
"Brute force implies a lack of finesse," Lae'zel replies, but there's a flicker of amusement in her gaze. "I am well trained and precise in my use of force. It's a skill we will need when dealing with this Absolute. Your magic will have some use as well, I'm sure."

@shadowsrcress gets a starter!
Freedom is something Inej hasn't let herself entertain the idea of in what feels like centuries. Time isn't something she's keen to keep track of when it comes to working for Cazador, but suddenly she finds herself at the end of an era. The remnants of the ritual remain, the scars remain, but that's all they are now. Cazador can't come back. He can't hurt them again.
Astarion is reluctant to talk to the rest of the siblings, which she understands, but Inej doesn't want to go to the Underdark without making sure he's okay. When it's dark, she travels to Elfsong Tavern, and it's a good couple of hours of talking with Astarion that finally bring her some peace.
His new friends seem nice. It makes Inej miss her own; they look for her, she knows, but she's a wraith, always evading them for their own safety.
She knocks on Demetria's partition, waiting for a response before she peers around it at the sorceress. She puts her hands up in surrender. "Not here to attack the camp this time, I promise." It feels like a good starting place.
â  You  knowâŚÂ  usually  you  wait  for  an  answer  before  sticking  your  face  in  places  you  havenât  been  called  to, â  sour  tone  spoken  despite  the  smile  curling  her  lips,  nowhere  near  gentle,  Demetria  swayed  her  head,  allowing  Inejâs  presence  formally   in  her  space   â   a  friend  of  Astarion  was  a  friend  of  hers,  coincidentally  yet  another  vampire  spawn  she  sympathized  with  after  suffering  a  murder  attempt.  This  was  getting  quite  fun.Â

Open - Maelle
Her heart beat was so quiet it was as if she hadn't a heart at all. Perhaps she truly didn't have one anymore; if someone were to have seen what she had done only about an hour prior they would certainly have thought such. Bodies were not as heavy as Maelle had previously thought, whether it was the adrenaline or her own strength or a combination of the two that allowed her to move this particular one to the bank of the river. Having already washed the blood from her hands and her rapierâher clothing would have to waitâall she had left to do was watch silently as the body she had stuck her blade through drifted with the river's current.
If she wasn't damned before she was certainly damned now. A mortal sin, taking the life of another. But it had to be done and she would do it as many times as required of her, all to keep Death from taking that which she held most dear. It had already claimed him once and never again.
A chill ran through her, up from her toes to her scalp. She folded her arms tightly across her chest before taking the path she had made back up to the road. The light clinking of her sword at her side was a small comfort; the trust she had in her skills and her competence. Never would she have thought they would be used for such a purpose.
So life provided these dips and turns, from darkness into light and into ever greater darkness still.
An  evil  woman  does  not  indulge  in  virtue.  How  could  she  ever  be  patient  when  wrath  was  a  vice,  in  roots  so  sharp  as  thorns,  going  deep  to  her  bones?  And  Maelleâs  absence  had  been  the  cause  of  her  awfully  sour  temper  for  now,  pacing  all  over  the  room  while  a  clock  tickled  the  passage  of  time  â  from  one  second  to  the  next,  the  flame  of  her  anger  worsened.
A  few  minutes  that  felt  like  hours  finally  exhausted  Demetria.  A  pout  to  her  lips,  eyebrows  furrowed  at  the  middle  of  her  forehead,  she  jumped  from  staircase  to  staircase,  hallways  and  corridors  left  behind  as  the  oppressive  air  of  the  manor  lighted  under  the  chill  breeze  of  the  day  outside,  and  her  pace  slowed  through  the  trails  of  the  gardens.
Fingers  intertwined,  hands  fallen  loosely  at  a  waist  level,  her  thumb  would  run  over  the  back  of  her  hand,  tracing  patterns  yet  unknown  and  no  more  soothing  than  the  thoughts  occupying  Demetria's  head,  each  a  little  more  venomous  than  the  previous,  before  the  path  followed  absent-mindedly  took  her  out  of  the  gardens,  realization  coming  in  a  jolt  only  at  the  sight  of  a  slender  shadow,  walking  slowly  towards  her.Â
â   Finally!  Do  you  know  how  long  I  have  been⌠ â    then,  distance  no  longer  a  trouble,  her  eyes  saw  past  the  mist  of  anger  to  observe  more  closelyâŚÂ  a  sword,  the  blood  and,  finally,  the  look  in  Maelleâs  eyes.  Demetria  straightened,  chin  held  high  as  the  cold  blue  irises  were  swallowed  by  blown  pupils,  a  dark  gaze  to  an  even  darker  sight.  The  first  instinct  to  ask  if  she  was  harmed  was  quickly  dismissed,  for  the  obvious  was  right  to  her  face:  that  wasnât  Maelleâs  blood,  despite  &&  because  the  bright  clean  steel  she  carried.  â  Rush!  Let  us  get  inside  before  anyone  else  sees  you.  We  can  speak  later.  â Â
Fingers drum against the cap of his knee, occasionally finding interest in picking at a snag to his pants. Quietly, he notes to stich the small hole closed, but for now, he enjoys the tense company of Demtetria. He's interested in what makes the pretty veneer of her practiced pleasantries crack. Maybe the wine is helping â a bottle of some forgotten vintage he stole from the cellars of Last Light Inn â and presented as a token of comraderie.
â Selfish and wicked! I like it. Although⌠where is your passion, dearest? â His observation is critical, scratching away at the layers he's uncovered and amused all the same to learn something new about her.
He leans back on the rug placed in the opening of his tent, musing to himself. â Doing this for yourself, then? Or is it maybe to show all those awful, terrible people how you've triumphed through adversity? â
â   Lost  somewhere  in  these  bloody  roads  weâve  been  walking,  â  without  the  privileges  of  her  noble  blood,  things  had  beenâŚÂ  harsher  than  usual  for  her.  Demetria  would  rather  be  sitting  on  the  gardens  of  the  family  estate  and  hearing  the  servants  speak  of  the  curse  surrounding  her  than  fighting  goblins  and  sleeping  on  the  harsh  ground,  missing  the  silken  soft  sheets  of  her  bed.  But  she  wasnât  one  to  pray,  and  her  best  wishes  had  been  ignored  for  quite  a  while  nowâŚÂ  so  what  was  left  but  to  complain?  â   Once  we  reach  Baldurâs  Gate,  things  shall  change.  Canât  say  trouble  wonât  be  on  our  trail,  but  at  least  this, â    she  gestured  around  the  camp,  â   wonât  be  the  cause  of  my  back  pains  any  longer.  âÂ
Her  gaze  briefly  fell  to  the  glass  of  wine  in  her  hands,  twirling  the  liquid  and  observing  the  crimson  spiral  as  Demetria  put  some  thought  into  the  question.  Despite  being  rotten,  eaten  by  worms  and  hardly  beating,  there  was  still  a  heart  guarded  in  her  ribcage,  one  she  protected  fiercelyâŚÂ  and  couldnât  ignore.
â   For  my  father,  perhaps.  I  long  to  see  himâŚÂ  â    the  vulnerability  is  ephemeral,  gone  with  a  blink  as  she  straightened,  smirking.  â   I  donât  care  about  those  whoâve  wronged  me.  When  the  time  comes,  I  certainly  wonât  be  fighting  for  their  lives,  but  my  own.  And  yours,  of  course,  â    because,  in  their  own  twisted  ways,  they  had  become  friends.  Or  sort  of.  â   Now  indulge  me:  how  about  you,  dearest?  Is  there  a  good  motive  behind  your  wickedness,  or  am  I  right  to  assume  you  and  I  are  the  worst  in  our  little  group?  â Â

â No more tears running down your face. â
â Looking at your eyes I can see the stress. â
â We'll dance until the sun kidnaps the night. â

â I have been anxious all day. â
â I see right through your faults. â
â Iâm trying find out if your heart breaks. â
â You play me like a toy. â
â It's all I know, never learned much more. â

â I'm better off when I'm alone. â
â I taught myself how to move. â

â We are not the same, I am too reckless. â
â Go tell your friends about it. â
â I know what's mine when I see it. â
â I usually love sleeping all alone. â
â When I'm fucked up, that's the real me. â
â I only love it when you touch me, not feel me. â
â Who are you to judge? â
â I love you very much, my beauty. â
â They warned me about your type. â
â Think I fell for you. â
â To say that we're in love is dangerous. â
â You're no good. â
â I got 'em wanting to embrace their sins. â
â I know she'll be the death of me. â
â At least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young. â
â I can't feel my face when I'm with you. â
â All the misery was necessary. â
â Said you wanna be good, but you couldn't keep your composure. â
â I don't wanna hurt you, but you live for the pain. â
â You want me to fix you, but it's never enough. â
â You're scared to be loved. â
â I'll always be there for you. â
â I have no shame. â
â Said it'd be the last time, but you're begging me to come over. â
â You make it look like it's magic. â
â I see nobody but you. â
â I'm so used to being used. â
â You're always worth it. â
â You know our love would be tragic. â
â We said it wouldn't be love, but we felt the rush. â
â You wake up, she's always gone. â
â She'll never walk away. â
â I don't think you understand. â
â He was cold and he was so unforgiving. â
â It got her on her knees like religion. â
â In the night, she hears him calling. â
â In the night, she comes crawling. â
â They couldn't see what I see in you. â
â You're the only one I choose. â
â Show me your broken heart and all your scars. â
â I'll take you as you are. â
â You know I'll break your heart. â
â Won't you take me as I am? â
â Drunk too much, you know what I'm like. â
â You shoulda seen the other guy. â
â This ain't the right time for you to fall in love with me. â
â I got another man's blood on my clothes. â
â You bring good to my lonely life. â
â It's hard for me to look into your eyes when I say that I would be nothing without your love. â
â Maybe I've been always destined to end up in this place. â
â I don't mean to come off selfish, but I want it all. â
â I'm addicted to a life that's so empty and so cold. â
â I can feel my soul burning. â
â I get so wrapped up in a world where nothing's as it seems. â
â Knew you were special from the moment I saw you. â
â I know what I am and the life I live. â
â I hope you find somebody to love. â
â You'll probably never take me back and I know this. â
â I'm so desensitized to feeling these emotions â
â You always seem to bring me light. â
â Woke up by a girl, I don't even know her name. â
â Say you're mine, I'm yours for the night. â
â You love her, but you'll never be enough. â
â The diamonds make it better. â
â Every time you try to forget who I am, I'll be right there to remind you again. â
â I got all these women too attracted to the fame. â
â Why would you wanna take away from this moment? â
â You don't have to spend your life with me. â
â You don't have to waste your energy. â
â I just want your body next to me. â
â I'm focused on the beat. â
â Everybody here wants you. â
â I ask you what your heart desires. â
â You tell me I'm the only one. â
â I catch you every time in your lies. â
â I hear the secrets that you keep. â
â You told me not to worry about those guys. â
â You told me that you left it all behind. â
â I see that you're not mine. â
â I can see the lust in your eyes. â
â You can't hide it. â
â We all have a past. â
â I'd much rather hear the truth come straight from you. â
â Can I trust in you? â
â Come show me your true colors. â
â I don't believe all this inconsistency. â
â I've been hearing different stories about you. â
â Show me you're a keeper. â
â It's been hard for me to keep up. â
â You've been trying to keep me in the dark. â
â I shouldn't cry, but I love it. â
â I just wanna see you shine 'cause I know you are a stargirl. â
â I ran out of tears when I was eighteen. â
â Too many people think they made me. â
â It has begun again, my friend. â
â In this room, we are nothing but strangers in a bed. â
â How can I forget when you said love was just pretend? â
â There's nothing between us. â
â We're no good for each other. â
â I loved you on a lonely night. â
â If I led you on, then I apologize. â
â How can I make you rethink your decision? â
â You know I loved you. â
â You were so strong. â
â Tell me where it went wrong. â
â Tell me how to love, it's been so long. â
â You're only looking for attention. â
â The only problem is you'll never get enough. â
â What do you expect now? â
â You were more than a fuck. â
â Heaven in her mouth, got a hell of a tongue. â
â I said it's too late for me. â
â I realized I belong to you. â
â I feel the darkness when away from you. â
â I learned to love you, the way you need. â
â When I feel the love, I hesitate. â
â The reasons I can't have you are so easy to fix. â
â I know you heard things about me. â
â I just can't say I don't love you. â
â It's hard for me to communicate the thoughts that I hold. â
â You hate that you want me. â
â You're scared to be lonely. â
â I'm scared that I'll miss you. â
â I don't want this feeling, I can't afford love. â
â I can't walk away. â
â Just know that I would die for you. â
â The distance and the time between us, it'll never change my mind. â
â I would die for you, I would lie for you. I would kill for you. â
â Tell me what you really like. â
â I can take my time. â
â I can feel that body shake. â
â You've been scared of love and what it did to you. â
â You don't have to run, I know what you've been through. â
â Just a simple touch and I could set you free. â
â We don't have to rush when you're alone with me. â
â I helped you out of a broken place. â
â Falling for you was my mistake. â
â I claimed you so proud and openly. â
â When times were rough, I made sure I held you close to me. â
â Call out my name when I kiss you so gently. â
â I want you to stay. â
â I want you to stay even though you don't want me. â
â I said I didn't feel nothing, but I lied. â
â You just wasted my time. â
â I thought you had some kind of love for your man. â
â I'm ready to go all the way if you let me. â
â Don't you miss me, baby? â
â She wasn't even half of you. â
â Even though you put my life through hell, I can't seem to forget about you. â
â I want you to myself. â
â Who do you belong to now? â
â It was like he was never there. â
â I poison myself again 'til I feel nothing in my soul. â
â I'm on the edge of something breaking. â
â I feel my mind is slowly fading. â
â If I keep going, I won't make it. â
â It's all because of you. â
â I'm warning you. â
â You try to fill the void with every man you meet. â
â You're upset with me. â
â If it's love you want again, don't waste your time. â
â When you're with him, you close your eyes and think of me. â
â I'll make you weak. â
â Enjoy your privileged life. â
â I'm not gonna hold you through the night. â
â We said our last goodbyes. â
â Let's just try to end it with a smile. â
â I don't wanna hear that you are suffering. â
â You are suffering. â
