In my opinion it's a lot more healthy to be able to own that you dislike someone for petty reasons than to do all kinds of mental gymnastics to make everyone you don't really vibe with out to be a bad person actually
canon interaction in overwatch btw
sorry I saw a post about AAVE and got fired up and had to make this
One of the most fascinating details about Ishmael's character that I've noticed is her desperation/obsession with attempting to enforce order on an absurd world, something that I think is quite relevant given the impending release of Canto X. It's not a direct detail so much as a background trait of hers, like believing that Wings follow expected corporate courtesy against poaching in Canto IV, or attempting to create a clear-cut black-and-white dichotomy in her conflict with Ahab, but in general, she seems to want a world where rules are predictable and inviolate. This makes sense given her evident trauma of sailing the Great Lakes and hunting Calamities; while even the Lakes have laws which can be understood and followed, the Calamities break every rule and force the world into absurdity and chaos.
I think it would be interesting for Ishmael to get a Season 8 N Corp ID that explores how fascism uses the false allure of a sensible society where you succeed if you just follow all the rules in order to lead people into complacency and complicity. It would make for an interesting parallel to Meursault who did follow all the rules just right in hopes of understanding other people but who gave people the ick and so got punished despite that promise of rationality.

why pink got the spamton strings on her hands?
is it a puppet thing because she's got the soul of the Dummy Ghost?
This is a bit of a hail mary but
if you're looking to get a commission (they'll be a little slower delivered because my retail job is killing me), now would be a lovely time. <3
To be completely transparent, my tuition comes due in less than a week (I'm trying to pivot careers and going to community college is my best bet rn) and I'm 1000 dollars short for this semester.
You can see my commission post here:

i liked how in canto 9 we get to see many variations of how to suck at parenting.
rien is the parent who always babies their child and never lets them experience anything on their own.
matthias is the buddy parent who's more interested in having a friend that thinks they're cool than a kid that relies on them.
callisto is the vicarious parent who wants their kid to be a little copy of themselves to continue their dream.
shiomi is the parent who had big dreams before unexpectedly becoming a parent and blames their kid for cutting their dreams short.
valencina is the drunk abusive parent.
and ryoshu is the absent parent - and the only one who tries to correct her behavior.

If THE modern translator of the OG Odyssey text wrote this about my film adaptation I’d kill myself
Emily Wilson you’re goated
She absolutely destroyed Nolan in this review O_O
"Without a tub of wax for my ears – which Himesh Patel’s ever anxious Eurylochus, Odysseus’s doomed right-hand man, uses to sail safely past the Sirens – I was exposed to the full din of thumping sticks, staffs, swords and clashing armour, thunderbolts, crashing waves, grunts, screams, toppling palaces and burning temples. But unlike Matt Damon, the wax-free Odysseus who is tied to the mast as he is conveyed past the Sirens (naked ladies reclining on some uncomfortable-looking rocks), I gazed at the shipwrecks and bloodbaths without any agony of emotion."
and
"There are more female characters than in most Nolan movies, thanks to the source material. But none of them has much to say, in contrast to the characterisations in the poem."
Well, that tracks for a Nolan film -
"The couple have no chemistry and nothing in common. Throughout his wanderings, the uxorious Odysseus clings to a little doll figure, intended to represent his wife (like the spinning top clutched by Leonardo di Caprio in Inception); the real woman is barely more interesting."
Yikes -
"If you’re not going to compose a script in Homeric Greek, or even in metrical English verse, you might as well use something like conversational American English. But writing dialogue is not one of Nolan’s talents. The language is relentlessly expository, humourless and flat."
The lines she calls out in this section will probably make a least a couple of my friends laugh incredulously -
"I was humbled to learn that Nolan has read at least the first line of my translation of The Odyssey into iambic pentameter. In at least one interview, he cited my version of the first line of the poem: ‘Tell me about a complicated man.’ But I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script."
....oh my GOD, EMILY -
"The most troubling ethical problem with Nolan’s Odyssey concerns the decision to film part of the movie in the occupied territory of Western Sahara, thus normalising the ongoing violence against the indigenous Sahrawi people. It is particularly galling that Nolan used this land simply as a visually striking backdrop for a film that centres, aggrandises and redeems the hero of a territorial war on account of his belated and partial acknowledgment of his own guilt."
And deepest respect that she didn't fail to mention the film's colonialism in production. You can tell she added the very last paragraph saying "'thanks for maybe getting people interested in classics" only because an editor begged her to say something - anything - nice about the movie.
