Carpet of Positivity
You know those people who sweep stuff under the rug, and then look around to make sure no one saw them? Sometimes it's okay not to always be happy. Life is not about always being happy. Sometimes, it's about enjoying the pain. Huh? What do you mean? Who enjoys pain? Pain sucks, I know... But when I think of pain, I think of the capability to grow, to transform, to breathe deeper, to know better. Pain is that time that you get to learn the more intricate lessons of life. This is not to say, don't be happy or don't be positive. But to allow yourself to feel, to not fake the positivity, but rather to honour happiness when it comes along. Learn to welcome pain, learn to welcome fears - invite them in, feel them, and then let them know that they should leave. That they have a time limited stay. My challenge for you this week is to ask yourself what carpet of positivity have you been shoving your pain under? Here's something to think about: THE GUEST HOUSE This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. You know those days that just pass by – before you know it, it’s evening – and you didn’t get done all the things you had hoped you would.
You feel like you don’t have any time to do the things that you want to do, and yet, a lot of your time goes on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or just sitting and staring at the ceiling?
After being a pro at letting time fly by, I read this quote that said: Every time you aren’t working on your own dream, you are contributing to another person’s dream.
Whatttttt?
Ahan. Think about it. When you’re not contributing to your dream you are probably contributing to Mark Zuckerberg’s dream or your bosses dream or your cable company’s dream. I could go on.
There are other times when we jam pack our day with so many things to do – and then we get disappointed when we don’t get through it.
To that, I’d like to share another quote I read: We underestimate what we can do in a year, and over estimate what we can do in a day.
Sometimes we get so caught up in completing chores, we forget to connect with why we are really doing what we are doing.
Your point, Shamsha?
My point is that so many times our days pass by us without any acknowledgement from us. A day in your life is not just a day. It’s a DAY.
We wake up, we run to work, we get to our errands and chores – and before you know it – we have to get to bed again to run the same damn cycle the next day.
On the contrary, what if we were to take a few moments each morning to acknowledge the day. To give ourselves some precious time: to feel grateful for all that we have, to envision our dreams and goals, to think about how we want our day to go, to take care of our bodies and eat nourishing foods?
What is we treated each day as a special gift. One more day we have here is our chance to make a difference. To be mindful and careful with our investments of time.
“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favourite day,” said Pooh.
You are not alone
You know what I am talking about: those heart wrenching times when you feel like the whole world is going to collapse on you – you feel alone. Or, when the noise inside your head gets too loud and you feel like you are all alone. Or, when shame and guilt comes down on you – and you feel you are all alone.
Well, there’s news for you, buddy!
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
If you think you are alone, you may be right. There may not be anybody around you physically, and you may feel alone. However, I can sort of guarantee this: you are never alone in feeling what you are feeling. It is likely that someone else out there in the world is having the exact same feelings as you. Whether that be happiness, sadness, despair, gratitude – you name it!
Today is Canada Day – a day to remind us that all Canadians are one. We are all celebrating the same purpose. If you are feeling joy and happiness for your country – it is likely, that at least five million other people are feeling similarly to you in this moment.
[Ahan, I got it, now what?]
Hmm. Good question. What are you going to do knowing that you aren’t alone?
Personally, knowing that I am not alone is such a huge relief. Knowing that there are other people out there who are struggling with the same feelings or who are also happy and grateful for their day. Imagine if you entered the office and you are the only one with a smile on your face – every one else is super sad for whatever reason. Wont it feels a little bit silly to be only happy person in there? What about that time when you realize that you are in the month of Ramadhan – and you are fasting even though it is 30 degrees outside. Knowing you are not alone makes it so much easier to get through the day.
Yeah, that’s right. Now you got it!
Knowing that I am not alone in my journey is a blessing. It is letting me know that things aren’t as hard as they seem. And, perhaps what I am going through now, others have already been through it. We are all living in different seasons within our lives. We keep going through our own versions of summer, autumn, winter, and spring. But, if it’s snowing for you today – it’s likely it’s snowing for someone else, too.
My challenge to you this week is to be aware that you are not alone in feeling what you are feeling. Whatever season you are in – time is continuously passing, and another season will come. So, if you are in the summer and someone you love is in winter – give them some of your warmth.
Life is consistently on the move. If you are having a tough day: “this too shall pass”

The Pursuit of Happyness
This week, I lost a dear loved one - a friend, a sister, and the world lost an enthusiastic person - one who was almost angelic in her pursuits to learning new things. This 22 year old was so dear to us and life took her before we knew it. We don't know when death will knock our doors. We don't know whether we will be prepared for it or not. But, what I wanted to dedicate today's blog to is for each of us to not settle one more day to just existing but to start living. It's time to start adding more magic moments to your life. It's time to start appreciating the colours of life. It's time to start bringing more happiness into your lives. Often most of us allow life to pass us by, moments to pass us by without paying attention to our present moment. We are either worrying about the future or too engaged in the past. At the end of the day, we are all simply looking to be happy. So, why have we tied so many conditions to our happiness? What can you do in this moment to start being more happy? What if you simply started being more grateful for the beauty that already exists in your life? Now here's my challenge for you this week: Find 5 things in your life that you are really happy about - and really feel the happiness. Then, think of 3 exciting things to come - and know that the feeling of happiness you are trying to look for from those things to come - you can already feel, now! Happy Tuesday!
