Now just hear me out- this but with a mafia au (definitely going to reveal how much I know nothing about mafias). When Reiner was younger, before he was boss, he was caught in a rumble. He injured a boy close to his age, maybe a little younger. Neither of them shouldāve been there.
Reiner was caught by Hange Zoe, famous for torturing their captive opponents. They were going to kill him. But Reiner was spared by the boy he injured. Reiner canāt fathom it; why? Why would this kid save him? He becomes obsessed with his hero (whoās exceptionally pretty, to boot).
Itās the future now, and Reiner has made his way up the ranks. Heās the boss. Heās recently got a new lackey, who seems strangely familiar, but Reiner canāt put his finger on why. The guyās fit to be a supermodel, so maybe he just reminds Reiner of someone he saw in a magazine. Thatās what Reiner tells himself until he seeās the scar on his shoulder (somehow- I donāt actually have a reason yet). He knowās who the new guy is instantly, and he knowās heās not on Reinerās side. But Reiner doesnāt care, heās just excited to have found his hero (and he has no intention of losing him again).

Whoo! I read this fic like three days ago and havenāt been able to stop thinking about it since.
1) I really imagined Jean as a borzoi or a deer hound, until Reiner said āhe looks like a coyoteā, and I was like āoh ( ĖĢ±ĖĖĖĢ± )-ā. So, I made a compromise with myself to give him a coyote head and coloring, but keep the shag and lanky build of a deer hound
2) I picked the colors from jeanās actual hair, which was similar enough to a coyoteās light, midtone, dark color pattern but still clearly states āthis is jeanā
3) idk why I kept all the references and progress sketches, I just thought it might be interesting
4) the comic is something that just came to me after finishing jean. You can see the quality drop with each panel lol (I was tired). I have pets with light colored hair and it shows on every dark piece clothing I own, so I thought āhaha yeah thatād be funnyā
5) this was so self indulgent, but I hope I did west/jean justice. Animal shifters are one of my favorite tropes in like anything (I blame the hobbit) so Iām really enjoying this fic ā”
