Hello, guys
"Today I lost my Cake HERO the delightful Sylvia Weinstock.
Even though I never got the chance to meet her in person. To me, she was a teacher, visionary artist, and master confectioner who helped to inspire me to become the cake designer I am today.
I fell in love with Sylvia's presentation of sugar flowers many years before I even dreamt of making one. When I finally did, I wanted to meet her, to thank her in person.
So, on my last week spent in New York, I visited her cake studio.I remembered her greeting room being small and welcoming. On the walls were articles of her famous cakes and favorite celebrities. Standing regal and yet artfully adorning the room were her display cakes, in delicate shades of pastels and beautifully crafted edible sugar flowers.
I left her studio feeling focused on how to create my own Sage Delights Wedding cakes in Jamaica. And though I did not get to see her, I promised her assistant, who was so pleasant, that I would return when Sylvia Weinstock was back in town. Sadly, I never got that chance..
Sometimes our 'Blessings' come unannounced, through a warm hello or a simple Twitter-like from someone we admire. R.I.P my cake Hero."
