If dad Beatrice does that also extend to the getting in slightly too risky (well too risky in their s/o’s eyes anyway) shenanigans with their kid sometimes? and/or often being the more chill/cool parent? Like Beatrice letting the kid have ice cream before lunch as a treat for acing their exams meanwhile ava lets them have ice cream, but *after* a quick lunch first
I can actually see it and i think it makes sense (Beatrice being the chill/cool parent more often than ava, at least) considering their childhoods and how they’d probably both wanna try to do things the opposite of how they were raised (beatrice hyper control, ava hyper neglect). i don’t think either of them would 100% be a chill parent, their parenting style wouldn’t differ too much, it’d probably be a 60-40 or maybe 55-45, but bea is probably a bit more often chill than ava
I think Beatrice's gonna be the more...neurotic parent, at least till their kid hit preteen. For me at least, Beatrice is the type to be overcritical of herself and worry too much about a child's development.
So when the kid's small, Beatrice's gonna be the "wear you jacket and no dessert before meals" kind of parent. She's also the "we're reading this award-winning children's book tonight because I cross referenced 50 top 10 books for children lists, and this one's on all of them" parent. Beatrice's also the type of Asian parent who won't let her kid anywhere near large bodies of water, and insists on safety gears for most activities.
But once the kid's old enough to communicate what they need, Beatrice backs off a little. Plus, it's Beatrice, so the kid's not gonna be able to sneak out to parties or get into their alcohol without her knowing. The kid knows Beatrice's a bad ass, and Beatrice knows the kid knows she's a bad ass.
Ava, on the other hand, is the fun parent when the kid's small. She's the loud, colorful, jumping-around kind. I think Ava's the type to prioritize quality time above all else. So lots of mommy-baby cooking adventures, weekend picnics, living room musical performances, pillow fort movie nights, and maybe even mommy-toddler ditch-kindergarten-and-let's-go-shopping type shenanigans. (Nothing over the top like a skiing trip, though, because that would give Beatrice an aneurism.)
But Ava with a teenage kid? Oh, no, Ava's gonna lose her damn mind because Ava spent her teens in a lumpy bed locked away in an abusive orphanage. Ava doesn't know what goes on in a teenager's life, and so she freaks out (mostly inwardly) every time their kid does something normal, like going on a camping trip with a friend and their parents or going on a date with someone.
Ava's gonna be the most frazzled parent because this is uncharted territory for her, and she's gonna feel so ill-prepared. Beatrice, on the other hand, had been through private schools and a boarding school, she's very familiar with all the crap teenagers do. So yeah, there's literally nothing their child can pull that Beatrice hasn't seen before.
Anyway, Ava and Beatrice are both intense, just not at the same time.
Oh, and they're both the meal-before-dessert type parents. Beatrice because it's just who she is, and Ava because she's trying not to spoil their child.
The only grown up who has dessert with the kid before a meal? Lilith, and it's only because the kid sneaks two portions of whatever dessert they're having that day and tells Lilith to be cool and eat it with them in the laundry room, to hide from mom and ma.
