i just wanna say that slurs don’t just “slip out” when they aren’t part of your everyday vocabulary. the worst thing ive ever had slip out at an inappropriate time was an “oh fuck” when i messed up in art class, because i don’t use violent slurs that i have no right to say.

just remember that the next time your friend, or some youtuber, yells out a racist slur when he gets beat at a video game. it’s not the kind of thing that comes out by accident when you never use it usually.

personally I think one of the worst things about having diabetes is that other people just don’t get it

they either don’t understand it and don’t care to understand it. “oh you’re giving yourself a needle okay gross I’ll just turn away.” or they think it’s just some weird sugar disease and they’re ignorant and rude about it. “oh haha all this sugar is gunna give me diabetus!” or maybe they get it but it scares them so they try to control it. “oh my goodness do you need insulin? a granola bar? oh don’t eat that sugar. what’s your blood sugar level at?” or they think they get it but they simplify it and go from there. “yeah it’s just monitoring your bgl and taking insulin. that’s it! all diabetics can live a happy healthy life.”

it’s just so tiring to have to deal with non-diabetics. and it sucks that it’s apparently our responsibility to teach them what diabetes really is

You know, something ridiculous to me is how many things we blame on individual people, as if it’s their actions and choices that have caused their body to be a certain way.

Weight? As determined by genetics as your height. It’s also determined by things like poverty and disabilities. A fat person isn’t fat because they eat more than you or somehow did something wrong.

Acne? Also genetics! Some people can use every face cream in the world but will never not have acne. Others can wash their face with only water and never have to worry about skin care.

Cavities? Woah, genetics! A person doesn’t choose to have their teeth not develop properly when they were four years old. You can brush your teeth three times a day and floss every hour; that’s not going to stop you from needing fillings.

Diabetes? Surprise! Genetics! You don’t get a disease because you “eat too much sugar.” You don’t choose to have a disease, and you certainly don’t get diabetes for being fat. Please actually look up some scientific studies.

Thin hair? I can’t believe this…genetics! You don’t choose to have thin hair. A person with thin hair doesn’t have it because they don’t take care of their hair well enough.

Disorders? Genetics~~~! People don’t choose to have anxiety, depression, OCD, you name it. It’s not something they can choose to ignore either. Mental illnesses aren’t a choice. Stop pretending like a person with OCD can just decide not to have compulsions. And you want to know what’s even more fucking ridiculous? The people who pretend that these things are choices know deep down that they’re not. They can accept that a person is naturally thin, that someone could never gain weight even if they tried, but they refuse to acknowledge the opposite end of never not being fat. They can understand that some people never have acne problems, but somehow don’t register that some people will always have acne problems. They’ll recognize that some people through sheer luck (genetics) can eat as much candy as they want and never have to worry about their teeth, but then shame someone else for not taking care of their teeth enough. They’ll see the fat people who don’t have diabetes and the skinny people who do but then tell others diabetes is a choice you make by “choosing to be fat.” They see people with curly hair, straight hair, thick hair, etc. who cannot change the way their hair naturally works for the life of them, but somehow that doesn’t extend to thin hair. These people see those who naturally don’t develop disorders due to genetics and then believe that this is the case for everyone.

For the love of fuck, stop shaming people for their natural fucking bodies!

Even for soldiers who have trained specifically for such things, a 20-mile march is a fucking grueling experience. Nobody should have to do that and then be expected to work for eight hours. That is literally insane.

The thing about trans women that people don’t talk about enough is the voice problem. Many of us are afraid to admit it, but there’s something incredibly degrading about being expected to alter the way we use our voice around people.

Really, like, the way that trans women are taught and expected to speak is incredibly tedious, unnatural, and obviously forced to the ear of any speech pathologist. So the “solution” is for us to go “full-time” and essentially ditch the voice that comes naturally.

It isn’t right, but there’s no winning in either case. People will misgender you if you speak naturally, and if you do try to use your “feminized” voice you’re honestly putting yourself at risk of violence, and how the fuck am I supposed to feel confident when knowing full well that the sounds coming out of me aren’t genuine or convincing to anyone?

This is a serious fucking problem that doesn’t get addressed. Trans women are expected to find services and often pay absurd sums of money to get training or “therapy” for the voice, but all you are really doing is practicing the art of speaking in a submissive and stereotyped voice. Enter radfems, who would then use this as a weapon against us, claiming that we are perpetuating *ppfffpffpfafbloobpblboooblbllblblpp* by using our voices in a way that makes us feel safe. 

But, unless you’re the lucky 5-10% of trans women who can pass even after speaking, that safety is not only unlikely, but more often than not people are going to look at you with disgust and of course you know what happens once you’re outed.

Why should I have to talk like a fucking cartoon character? Cis women do NOT sound the way that these voice experts insist they do, because trans women have to speak primarily with a head tone, completely forgoing the chest and therefore removing the part of the sound that makes it sound like speaking and not fucking squealing.

If you care about trans women, expecting us to change our voices in order to pass as cis is fucking gross.
