i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!

also theerakit kian lee: celebrates a four months three months and thirty three days wedding anniversary, agrees to cut short a six months (!!) honeymoon vacation period because his husband craves work, proceeds to cry in the shower about it, researches how to survive a long distance relationship (estimated separation time: eight hours), calls said husband in the middle of his workday because he absolutely doesn't miss him and just needs to show off an art their daughter made at school and makes his children and sister in law join him in sitting on their mansion's stairs for hours until his husband returns from war work
"Stop saying 15 year olds with weird interests are cringe, they're 15" this is true however you should also stop saying adults with weird interests are cringe because who gives a shit
To wit:
I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.
In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought she’d try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:
“So here’s the thing… I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and you’re doing interesting things with them.
“My biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Don’t hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.”
Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didn’t limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.
Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Don’t limit yourself based on other ppl’s tastes. They’re not you, and you are incredible 💕
The other day my wife told me about this influencer who said she needed to go on ozempic so she could go from 130 lbs down to 115 and I really cannot stress the degree to which we have so COMPLETELY lost the plot with this glp1 shit. Like not only are people are going on this shit for purely cosmetic purposes, the cosmetic purposes are delusional. This is the kind of mindset that gives people eating disorders but now because you can get a prescription instead of having to starve yourself or enduce vomiting a big swath of the general public seems eager to go along with it. Body Positivity did not go fucking far enough because I am being so real when I say that fatphobia is more of a public health crisis than obesity has ever been
People making a choice feminism argument for Ariana Grande looking skeletal have me feeling like this
“The daily routine of most adults is so heavy and artificial that we are closed off to much of the world. We have to do this in order to get our work done. I think one purpose of art is to get us out of those routines. When we hear music or poetry or stories, the world opens up again. We’re drawn in — or out — and the windows of our perception are cleansed, as William Blake said. The same thing can happen when we’re around young children or adults who have unlearned those habits of shutting the world out.”

Time for a mascot relationship update, because enough time has passed for me to reassess everyone’s emotional attachment to their little corporate children:
First off; It has become increasingly apparent that Tay and New would absolutely kill or die for San. No irony, no hesitation. He’s real to them. That’s their son.
Perth and Santa, meanwhile, have developed the funniest parenting situation with their child. Their devil child exists in theory, but in practice Perth cannot understand why he would ever acknowledge it when his beloved Santa is right there. Neither of them is willing to let it come between them, because that would require standing more than a foot apart. Half the time they simply forget it exists. Interviewers have literally asked them to let it stand between them, and they’ve just… said no.
Junior and Jummo have developed a relationship based on mutual bullying, disguised as family bonding. Jummo can’t speak, but that has never stopped him from dissing his father at every opportunity. At this point, it’s becoming increasingly unclear who the parent is and who the child is supposed to be. The Save Mark Ji petition continues to gain support.
Joong and Dunk, on the other hand, seem to exist in a state of polite emotional distance from Jaidee. They adore the doll version of their child, but the moment the live version appears on screen, they’re immediately backing away like they’ve never met her in their lives. We get it.
And finally, Pond and Phuwin have now arrived at the “what am I doing with my life?” phase of mascot ownership. The bear is still loved, but it knows too much now, and there is a lingering sense that they would absolutely muzzle it if given the opportunity.
I will, of course, continue monitoring these critically important mascot-parent relationships and report back as new evidence emerges.
This is fabulous 🤣🤣🤣
“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

it’s funny how we’re getting to the point in the AI lifespan where you can feel the desperation from tech companies to have you use their AI features. instagram has moved their AI effects to the top of the menu when you’re creating a post for your story, exactly where the draw/edit button used to be. gmail is creating one-click AI-generated replies right before you open up the text box. spotify put a beta AI playlist generator on the front page that looks just like a search bar so all of their users accidentally click on it when they go to search for a song.
tech companies are shaking in their boots trying to prove to shareholders that their investment in AI is worth it, to the point where they’re tricking their users into using the AI features even for a split second in order to fudge the numbers. like awww is your little environment-destroying toy not wielding the results you hoped for? so sad!

To expand:
One thing I have always really enjoyed about Jojo's work is that he clearly loves men's bodies, in ways aesthetic, artistic and horny, and it shows in his work. His heroes tend to be either beefy or rangy, he encourages his actors to bulk up when he feels it suits the character, and doesn't necessarily go for the lean shredded look, unless it works for the story like Joss and Earth in Mama Gogo. Podd's soft muscularity in that show also matched his character. In The Heart Killers, I LOVED that First clearly beefed up some, nobody tried to hide Dunk's wild biceps, and Joong looked fit but had a natural tummy. I loved how he just let Winny and Satang's bodies BE in That Summer. Here in A Dog And A Plane, everybody looks like a fucking snack, but DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF SNACKY. Tay Tawan is giving me the sweats because I'm biased, but they're all like DAMN. Mond is the size of a small tank on camera here and I LOVE it. Newwie's Kanit is serving Gym Gay and I'm living for it. Oab is serving fit but not toned, perfect for that character. I just love Jojo's specific gay gaze so much man.
When Ursula K. Le Guin said that all the old stories tell us about hunting but really 65% of their diets were foraged, collected and gathered. And the only reason the stories persisted were because they were stories, frightening and heroic. And when Virginia Woolf tried to re-write the English language she wanted to replace the word Heroism with Botulism which is a kind of food poisoning. And heroes all started as men who almost died trying to hunt for food, food that wouldn’t be stored properly. And this idea of heroism started to infect our idea of humanity and how it started. And how Ursula K Le Guin said she wasn’t human if humanity was all about violence and hunting. And when Lillian Smith said that What Freud mistook for her lack of civilization is woman’s lack of loyalty to civilization because what history tells us is human is largely the story of men. And the story of men is pointed violent weapons, active things. And the lost history is that of the carrier, the recipient, the weaved basket used to carry grains. And the lost history is that of the women and how they too are carrier, recipients, almost passive holders of all the life they gathered.
WHERE IS MY HUSBAND! (youtube)
I've been wondering the whole time where Wu was going with its political plot, and apparently the answer was "going so much harder than you imagined."
Niran affirming that Qi Rong's violent outrage has a place in the world, although we hope it is not here and now? The not-a-ritual but still spiritually revelatory mirror questioning? The once-idealistic politician who has made compromises, which might have been necessary and even good, but in the end crossed a line one must not cross?
I love that the show has said from beginning to end that the yao are also part of the natural order. I love that Pete learned to work with the demon inside of him instead of expelling it. I love the lack of purity, the recognition of grim struggle in every aspect of life. Philosophically, it feels more sound and resonant to me than a lot of common fantasy/supernatural stories.

Anytime I hear people talk about AI I think of the 1984 book Turing's Man, in which the writer, J David Bolters, discussed the mere concept and idea of computing human intelligence and wrote "Does a machine that imitates human beings perform any usefull service at all? We are not running short of human beings."
