The more I sit with the ending of Good Omens, the more the word that comes to me to describe it is "cowardly." You had a chance to create a vision of love and joy and happiness, to achieve satisfying catharsis, and you did this instead? What a failure of imagination and nerve.

I think once they were done filming they realized the ending was so bleak they needed to drop hints in the post-production effects, credits, and music (Time After Time) that reincarnation was kinda maybe an option, never mind there is nothing in the text to suggest it. In fact, just the opposite that this “new” universe was supposed to be completely mechanical, with no supernatural anything or afterlife. But wink, wink, nudge, nudge, so the fans don’t get *too* upset.
