I just got done reading Smoke Signals by WhoLetThisHappen on ao3 and now I kind of want to write a detective AU. I'm not sure if I want it to be a Rumira or polytrix fic yet but I know I kind of want it to mirror Rizzoli & Isles or Castle in theme. For Zoey, I'm leaning towards crime author (Like Castle) who is looking for inspiration for her new book. But for Rumi and Mira, I am having trouble figuring out what roles they should play.
Option 1: Rumi is a homicide detective, fighting to find her mother's killer (similar to Kate Beckett). Her mother is murdered when she is 15, she is sent to a group home where she meets the Saja Boys (except Jinu) and they become her new family. Her partner is Jinu who she meets when she first joined homicide. Celine is the Police Captain who may have had a hand in Rumi's mother's death or at least covering it up. Mira is the chief medical examiner. Mira's family sees her as a disappointment, their brilliant daughter becoming a coroner instead of a brilliant surgeon like they wanted. Zoey is the goofy/charming crime writer that follows both Rumi and Mira around for inspiration.
Option 2: Mira is the detective, disowned by her rich family after she goes against everything they envisioned for her and became a cop. Rumi is the highly socially awkward yet incredibly intelligent medical examiner. Celine is Rumi's distant adoptive mother, her biological parents are a part of the mob (like Maura Isles background). Zoey is the goofy/charming crime writer that Rumi finds endearing and Mira finds annoying but they both end up falling for.
Option 3: Mira is a homicide detective and Rumi is her new partner. Mira is estranged from her family due to her decision to become a cop. Zoey is the quirky/socially awkward/highly intelligent medical examiner. Mira and Zoey are close and then Rumi gets thrown into the mix. Rumi was an FBI agent that spent her time chasing serial killers all over the country. After a rough case, a haunted Rumi moves back home to take care of a sick Celine and ends up joining the police force as a homicide detective becoming Mira's new partner. Mira and Rumi butt heads but eventually end up falling for each other.
