Whether Wenclair is canon or not, it doesn't really matter to me, but I agree with this post.
"It's about female friendship, sisterhood. Stop turning everything gay. Girls can't be friends anymore. "
I'm tired of seeing those arguments. We have plenty of shows or movies with these topics or those kinds of relationships : Grey's Anatomy (Among the many relations on the show, they have the most awesome female friendship : Mer and Christina, Arizona and April...), Little Women, The Help, Black Widow (main subject is Nat and Yelena's relation), Frozen (two sisters), The Derry Girls, New Girl (Jess and Cece are like sisters), Avatar the Last Airbender (Toph and Katara's friendship, it also adresses Mai, Ty-Lee and Azula toxic friendship) etc...
It's not because a show has a main characters in a queer relationship or queer main characters that it invisiblise every others relationships they have with other characters. They are plenty of shows who proved it, and they still manage to showcase awesome female friendships :
Brooklyn Nine-Nine : Rosa being Bi doesn't destroy her friendship with Amy. They're still close and prove more than once that they deeply care for each other. I really love every friendship in B99. They're so well written.
Warrior Nun : Camilla is literally like Beatrice and Mary baby sister. Mary acts as Bea, Ava, and Camilla older sister. Even if they don’t have much alone time in the show, Camilla and Ava have a really sweet dynamic.
She-ra : Gilmer and Adora, Scorpia and Catra, Scorpia and Entrapta, etc. They have their own struggles and hardships, but they do care about each others.
The Good Place : Eleanor and Tahani's relationship is so fun, and yes, friends do jokingly "flirt" with each other.
Supergirl : Kara and Alex relation is still at the center of the show. It's their bound as sisters who drove the show. (The plot line in the show is very bad except in S3 and 4, but they do manage to write good friendships)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer : Beside Buffy and Willow's friendship, Tara and Buffy end up having a really sweet friendship where Tara doesn't judge Buffy and supports her.
Paper Girls : In the show or in the comics, it's nice to see Erin, Tiffany, KJ, and Mac become friends and travel through time.
Yellowjackets : The relationships between the characters are so layered and well put that people have very different takes on every character relationship, but if we look at the friendship, here's some of my favorite : Tai and Shauna, Van and Lottie, Akilah and Mari, Misty and Nat (adult).
Heartstopper : Honestly, Elle and her relationship with Darcy, Tara, Sahar, and even Imogen is great.
The problem is the writing. Scenarist have forgotten how to write friendships, or perhaps they never knew how to write it to begin with, but yeah believe it or not some friendships are written like fucking romance and paralled to others couple in the show and it will stay friendship because it's between same gender characters.
So stop valuing female friendship or male friendship more than female and male friendship. Stop erasing potential queer stories. Being queer doesn't mean you have to make it be the only personality traits of your character. And start writing more female and male friendships like Rosa and Jake, Kara and Winn, Elle and Charlie.
And saying girls can't be friends anymore is not an argument
