I hate having to do this, but my car is kinda fucked and it's putting me in a bad money situation. I know things are bad all over, but I could really use any help you could spare.
i have written a little over 1k words in the free use fic, and i haven't even gotten to the main "plot" point yet.
this is not like me.
but then again, neither is writing porn, so.
Over 2k! This fic is gonna hit 3k, easily. Maybe even 4. Most of my fics don't even break 1k so like, this is a big deal for me.
Getting close to 4k and uh... it's not as close to done as I thought it would be at this point. I don't think it'll hit 5k but like, who knows.

one thing i love about helly in severance is that she really drives home how gender conformity is learned, not innate. like she's dressed as a professional woman, in heels and a skirt and makeup, but her voice and body language, all the little ways people perform gender, don't match it. she doesn't modulate her voice higher or modify her speech to be less blunt. she's got her shoulders up in a very tense, afraid posture (bc she IS tense and afraid) and she walks with a very purposeful stride. helly is helena without the years of training to be quiet and compliant, without years of being taught how to perform gender, so she just...speaks in her regular voice. has the posture of a scared little animal because that's what she is. it's gender non-conforming but it's not masculine or anything to do with her personal gender identity. she's just being a person, having realistic human reactions to the situation she's in. and so much of gender non-conformity for women is like this. you don't have to deliberately wear menswear to be seen as unfeminine. you can just not wear makeup or not shave your legs, just exist in your unmodified body and speak with your unmodified voice, and that's enough. i sometimes see art of helly in more masc clothing or trying on mark's suit and it's cute but i think reading her lack of "appropriate femininity" as a desire to present masculine kinda misses the key point that she is not acting like a man or a woman. she is simply existing as a human being

goddamn I think so much about paragraph breaks. I get annoyed when I like everything about what I'm writing except for the physical way I divide those words into sections.
Sometimes the only difference between a sentence being just a sentence versus being a punchline or a gut punch in how you group it with other sentences. Which is cool. However. Also deeply stressful. Like much of writing.

I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer. My parents met at the beach because they were neighbors in their rental houses, mom was on a church trip and dad was getting blackout drunk every night with his friends next door.
Tell me how your parents met in the tags.
I do want Shane to interact with his fellow queers who know fuck all about hockey, if only so he can experience the supreme satisfaction of having SOMEONE react appropriately to the reveal that he's dating Ilya - which is to say, they take one look at Ilya before whipping back around to Shane, jaws dropped, and go "Holy SHIT!!" and Shane can FINALLY smugly proclaim "I KNOW right??" Let him have this, at least
