War, Famine, Pestilence, Death, Umami

horses are inherently funny because they come in so many sizes. like draft horses
this looks so fake. this horses skull is bigger than the dudes entire torso. this horses NECK is thicker than the dudes entire BODY.
and then at the opposite end of the spectrum you have shit like this shetland pony which ALSO looks fake
what the hell happened to this thing who bred this line of ponies to be so ridiculous
fun fact, while most mini horses and ponies look fat, like the shetland above, some are genuinely just scaled down versions of regular horses
you look at this and think “wow that’s a horse i bet I could ride that” but you’d be wrong because this is an american shetty and it’s the size of a large dog
also fun fact, this is the world’s smallest horse, thumbelina
and this is the largest horse ever, brooklyn supreme
I would fucking die for Brooklyn Supreme
I cannot @ how big he is
Son
ya’ll i am fucking sobbing at these photos of a horse catching a frisbee
valid to eat frisbees
I try not to have too much disc horse on my dash, but I guess this is ok.
Carve a Path to the Future | Jin | Chapter 4 | Cris
This would all end, soon enough. The tragic farce would finally reach its conclusion, and those who remained would walk free.
About time. The sooner he could get out of here and get back to business the better. If nothing else, he figured if he wasn’t going to kill anyone himself he might as well kill some time before everything reached its conclusion. And then Cris walked in.
Jin would certainly not say he respected him. He was aggravating and dense at most times, but his performance at the last trial had been… intriguing. Bar he himself, Cris had seemed to be the only person who reached the same conclusion as he did and managed to voice it first, even if in a way that made it sound dumber than it was.
It was still possible for even him to be surprised, it seems. He acknowledges the athlete’s entrance with a nod.
“Castillo-Mishra. Would you care to share your thoughts about all of this?”
Right to the point there.
Daichi’s announcement hadn’t sparked much of a reaction from Cris. He was lying on the floor of his dorm room when the message had come, and simply returned to his circuit training afterwards. The message appeared quite clear to Cris, and thus not worthy of further thought. Death was inevitable here.
Still, being told the game was coming to an end propelled Cris’ mind to dredge up old memories; a campfire bright against the night sky, the smell and taste of chestnuts, the glint of a small knife dragged against scrap wood. He found himself bouncing to the wood shop before he consciously knew it.
As soon as he’d entered and realised his own whereabouts, he also noticed a familiar face! Cris' current working definition of Jin was that he was the result of a big brain and a lot of irritation being compacted and concentrated into a small body. Perhaps his suspenders were holding him back, keeping the package together.
“Whaddup lil man!”
Cris briskly inclined his head in response to Jin’s greeting nod. He turned his head to the left, then the right, taking in the room and its contents.
“Lotta stuff to play with in here. Figured I’d practice m’ wood carving- preeeetty rusty though,”
If Jin was referring to the precarious state of the killing game, Cris was clearly not within that headspace.
He crossed to the wood cabinet and began picking a good piece to mess with, lifting and inspecting as he searched.
“Did you ever have to take woodworks in middle school?” Cris asked over his shoulder.
The Show Must Go On | Chapter Four | Hikaru | Closed @ Cris
Hikaru enters the auditorium, at this point just lumbering through each area without purpose, just trying to fill the vacant time with movement.
72 hours…or was it 71? 70? At this point it’s lost to him, what matters is that within that time someone will probably be dead again. As this sick game has unfolded, Hikaru again and again has failed to find any means of escape or helping. It’s exhausting…yet, sitting idly by has never been his style either. Perhaps that’s why he just compulsively paces the auditorium, just trying to trick his mind with faux productivity.
Auditorium…Hikaru can’t help but wonder what this place would be used for, if not for this game. There’s plenty of possibilities, obviously various stage plays, musical performances, or…ooh! Presentations! Educational presentations…Hikaru you nerd, of course that’s what you’d hope to see up on this stage.
Cris was honestly a bit miffed. There was of course the matter of Miharu not revealing what she saw that drove her to accidental murder. But what was really ruffling Cris’ feathers was the stagnant atmosphere. Maybe it was normal for this blanket of confusion to overcome them following each murder, trial, and execution, but suffocation was suffocation, and Cris wanted fresh air.
Of course there was no actual access to the outside world, no door obviously, and not so much as a card-sized window, so Cris settled for the auditorium. It was smaller than the planetarium but much brighter, and the stage was certainly eye-catching.
He had wandered behind the curtains of the stage when Hikaru arrived, and nearly stepped into the light before he noticed Hikaru pacing there. Instead he retreated into the curtains, seeking out the extensive lighting system.
It took a few tries – turning random knobs and flicking many switches – and definitely some strange abrupt lighting changes that were reverted as soon as they appeared, but Cris finally dimmed the lights in the auditorium.
Then, Cris began a drumroll that picked up in speed, slapping his thighs with enough to force to make a noticeable sound. As the rhythm reached a speed he could no longer keep up, Cris stopped, halting all sound. He peeked into the seating area, careful to remain invisible to Hikaru.
Then he leaped from the shadows to centre stage. The sound of his boots striking the stage echoed throughout the room. He struck a pose.
“Welcome!” he boomed.
…
“…Huh?”
Hikaru stares up at Cris on the stage, perplexed. Clearly this is some sort of joke, or just the jock messing around, and Hikaru doesn’t have the energy to put up with it. He looks back down, returning to pacing. A bit rude, but okay.
…
Alright he does look back up, curious what exactly Cris is intending to do up on the stage now that he has gone and made a fool of himself.
A moment after Hikaru’s lacklustre response, Cris dropped his hands to his sides and let his head fall back, letting out a groan that exaggerated his dissatisfaction.
“Dios mío, you’re so boring,”
He elongated the final word for unnecessary emphasis.
Cris straightened his posture, huffed, and sauntered to the front edge of the stage. He easily sat himself on the edge with one fluid motion.
“Ok kid, what’s got you grindin’ your heels against the aisle?”
He leaned back on the heel of his palm, his voice as playful as ever, unaffected by his stoic audience.
“There’s gotta be something,”
……
Is this guy for real? ‘What’s wrong?’, he’s essentially asking.
“…Well for one, I told you not to call me kid, so jot that down. Two, I do wonder what’s wrong, what with all the murder and death of our classmates? It’s one of the world’s greatest fucking mysteries why I’m not exactly inclined to partake in whatever silly shit you’re trying to do here. This isn’t the time nor the place to be cracking jokes.”
Jeez, touchy. Either way, he doesn’t seem genuinely angry at Cris or anything, he just looks tired and stressed. Probably hasn’t slept properly in…forever.
Cris stretched his arms above his head in the typical ‘just woke up’ manner and slowly lowered onto his side, propping his head up with one hand against the side of his head, the other lazily draped across his torso. He was settling into a comfortable watching position. He may’ve been on the stage, but Hikaru was the show here.
He let the silence stretch out between them. After a few more moments of Cris blankly watching Hikaru, a lop-sided smile dawned upon his face.
“You know I’m sorta surprised your hair isn’t completely white,”
Cris briefly lifted his head to reposition his hand,
“Considering all the worrying you do,”
“Wh-Am I not supposed to be worrying?! We started with 14, half of us are dead, and anyone could be next! How do you suppose we don’t worry about that?”
Hikaru sighs, trying to cool off.
“…Sorry. I’m…as I’ve stated as very fair, on edge. I don’t get how you can be so casual and calm in a situation like this…”
“You’re right,” Cris nodded, giving a half shrug.
“Half of us are dead – but what are we?” Cris knocked his chest with his fist “Alive.” His eyes widened in a gesture that screamed ‘duh’. “I’m gonna act like it till I’m blown up,”
Cris rolled onto his back, tucking his hand behind his head as he took note of the ceiling’s shape and colour for the first time. He nodded in acknowledgement of Hikaru’s apology, though Cris hadn’t expected it. The calm had filled Cris for some time now, he hadn’t tried to translate the feeling into words before but it was worth a shot.
Cris hummed, his voice took on a distant quality, “We’re part of the lucky few. We have a rough idea of when all of this’ll end,”
“Huh…? You just…”
Hikaru sighs, gritting his teeth.
“Just because you’re alive, there’s no reason to worry? Are you thinking about what would even happen if we did get out of here alive? All those families, who’d have to learn their kid or sibling or…friend is dead.”
“Maybe it’s easy for you…you’re just some jock, you can leave here and go back to whatever wonderful life you have…I’m the journalist here, it’s my duty to make sure everyone knows what happened here, to make sure that those families get their closure…why would I expect anything from you? Feh…my mistake in the first place for ever thinking someone like you could understand…anything.”
“…Enjoy being ‘alive’. You’re right about one thing, we’re the lucky ones.”
Cris idly traced the lines of the ceiling with his eyes. He tried to recall the placement of the stars as he’d last seen them; somehow simultaneously ordered and entirely random. There were constellations flanked by unnamed stars, little pinpricks of light that were on all accounts equal, but for the fact that some were thought to be connected to a greater network. ‘Thought’ was the important word here, if it were not for the earth-bound audience every twinkle would be an individual. Seeing connections where there were none was such a human compulsion, it brought a smile to Cris’ lips. To be given a name.. Designated a place amongst the vast expanse of night.. Could being worth something be so simple? So trivial?
Cris remained distracted for a moment before he fully returned to the conversation. The mild humour that accompanied his idle musing withered and hardened as he listened to Hikaru’s vitriol. In complete silence, Cris rose from his horizontal position. His face was blank, bored almost. In one fluid motion he was on the ground, only a few steps from Hikaru.
Finally, Cris’ lips parted into a fierce grin, both incredulous and demeaning at once.
“You talk big shit for a squirt.”
He turned his head to the side and pursed his lips, his brows pulling together as he searched for some explanation that justified Hikaru’s petulance. A laugh suddenly erupted from between Cris’ pursed lips.
“The naivety, kid! You assume, you demean, and--” Cris held the lower half of his face, though it did little to hide the vicious grin that had overridden his usual calmness, “you really think your little writing makes you worth something,”
At that moment, Cris crossed what little distance remained and seized Hikaru’s collar and lifted, the fabric of Hikaru’s tie and shirt bunching beneath Cris’ grip.
“You’re so worried about who could be next, but your ego is so big you do not stop to consider it could be you,”
He drew out the words, his tone dripping with sarcasm. That wild look that creeped into Cris’ eyes during the trial was plain to see once again as Cris’ clear eyes bore into Hikaru’s. His teeth were now bared in a tight grin.
“I’ve never needed a motive,”
Cris spit out the words. The moment lasted a breath longer before Cris roughly cast Hikaru aside by the collar. However he landed, Cris was already halfway to the door. His footsteps were as light as ever. As he exited the auditorium, Cris’ voice resounded once more.
“Maybe you’ll see the story beneath the shit when you pull your head out of your ass,”
And with that, the door to the auditorium clicked shut behind him.
