[execution] Immune Evasion
Sumiko Ihara, SHSL despair, grinned at the surviving students decision. Their freedom would cost the rest of the world a cure. But this was the reality she wanted; A hypothesis, a test, and a conclusion. She gave the students a pleasant smile, aware of the torture she was willing to accept. With her final goodbye before embarking on her journey into hell.
Just like those whose hands were stained with their classmates blood before her, shackles shot out and dragged the mastermind into the distance. Within seconds the screen awoke with a sickening flicker, showing off bloodied pink curtains. In the suspense of it all, what seemed like hours was nothing more than a short minute before they rolled back to begin the grand finale.
As the screen panned out, a lively audience sat at their desks. Eleven monobears representing the respective lost students. With full on wigs and cosplay attire, they took the roles of the fallen. At the front of the classroom, Sumiko loomed over the teachers podium. Her legs were chained to the ground as she whipped a large ruler onto the surface to gain their attention.
The class perked up, facing towards their faithful master and operator. Her lesson begins in relative normality, she lectures, they listen. Gradually, however, their initial cuddly and adorable expressions twisted into ones of hatred and anger. Unfazed by the glares from her dear pupils, Sumiko pushed forward with the lesson with not a care in the world.
Each monostudent was passed a special edition book titled ‘How To: Get Revenge On A Pitiful Mastermind’. Shuffled, dog-eared instructions in their paws, the classmates began to band together against their teacher. The threat of rebellion hung heavy in the air as they advanced towards the twintailed teacher.
With each step, Sumiko’s oblivious demeanor shook rapidly. The students rattled with rage as she looked up to their discourse. Finally reacting to their volatile behavior, the virologist hugged herself with an expression of tranquil delight. This was the fate she had expected and waited for, and everyone who had played for team hope was watching from afar.
Two bears paralleled each other and quickly grabbed her by her arms, pinning her against the chalk board without restraint. Rivulets of sweat began to drip down her gently smiling face, eyes wavering over the weapons now displayed in the other 9 bear-students’ paws. They advance without sign of stopping and, may it be sympathy or even a last act of kindness towards one they had called their own, the bear displaying a white habit took Sumiko by the hand and gave a small prayer before steadying a needle within her arm.
Slowly but shortly, the Virologist lost consciousness. Her limbs and body turned to heavy iron that forced her to collapse, out cold, to the floor. The students collected around her and laid her onto a slab inside the classroom. When she awoke, the Monobear that most resembled the Super High School Level Police Chief stood above her.
His arms crossed as he looked down at her. As he gave a signal to start their revenge, the class broke into a wild, chilling laughter. Students from left and right flew at her with weapons of every kind. Sumiko’s eyes closed and she smiled serenely, encouraging the blows, welcoming the vengeance to paint her body black and blue, the barrage landing to the rhythm of revenge as they tore at her with the relentless rage of young hearts crushed rotten by despair.
It seemed to last forever. The noises of bludgeoned skin and broken bones created a cacophonous symphony that crawled against the interior of the audience’s craniums, noises that would leave everlasting stains of nausea.
When it finally stops, the silence is deafening, almost enough so to wish they would go back to attacking her just to have some noise. The bears on screen shuffle away into darkness, leaving a sole Sumiko Ihara, barely recognizable, but still breathing.
A single bear, one recognizable as the original Monobear that had heckled them this entire horrible ride, slides into the screen with the spotlight shining on the wrecked body of his master.
“Upupupu! We’re here live with Super High-School Level Virologist Sumiko Ihara who, astoundingly, has just found the cure for mankind! Any words from our whopped wonder-girl!?” A microphone shoved in her face, Sumiko’s swollen cheeks shake into what can be barely perceived as a smile, genuine and sickeningly triumphant. Her shattered lips struggle through the caked blood and ripped skin to form words, a single word, hardly recognizable if it weren’t for the heart-stopping silence in the room:
“…Success.”
The curtains close, as does the last chapter of the life of Sumiko Ihara, Super-High School Level Virologist. Mastermind. Friend.

Three?
Now, that was odd, wasn’t it? When the hum of new connections rose in the forefront of her ‘mind’, she had been expecting two; a victim, and a killer. That was how it usually went, right? She had been an exception -- an unknown factor, a statistical anomaly.
But the proof was in the pudding, right before her ‘eyes’. Three new files; gingerbreadman.exe, otonomiyakyo.exe, and jianglidelarosa.exe.
The first and the last are easy enough to figure out; a victim and a killer, although in what order she’s not certain. The middle one, though... he never seemed like he would allow himself to kill, to prove a point if nothing else. Nor did it seem like he would make himself an easy victim.
Curious. When she tried to reach out, though, she found the connection denied, the information tantalisingly close... and yet barred from her.
“Ahh-ah.” she sighed, the simulated voice echoing from the speakers; she had taken to thinking aloud, lately, if only to fill the silence. “That’s, like... typical.”
Disappointment aside, though... there was also relief that certain names hadn’t shown up -- Harper, mainly, but most of the others... she was happy with that, too. You have to find a silver lining, when you’ve nothing to do but live in your own, programmed consciousness and wait for people to speak with you.
“Five, huh.” she mused aloud, eyes flicking towards the door -- where those five presumably were, now, coming out from the trial.
“...I wonder if something’s gonna happen soon.” And with that offhand thought, the bigger question -- ‘if it does, what will happen to me?’
It was good to know that anxiety over the unknown could still exist in an artificially intelligent mind, she supposed. That was something, if nothing else.
Gosh, it was really too quiet in here.
and when you’re gone, will they say your name? and when you’re gone, will they love you the same? if not that’s okay.

☣ [Task Seven] Lysis || Sumiko&Harper ☣
Harper tries to make himself comfortable, like she says. He folds his hands in his lap. No. Shoves them in his jeans pockets. Still wrong. Leans back in the chair, but that feels weird too, so he sits up straight again and folds his arms on the desk. They’re closer together this way, but he doesn’t feel those jittering nerves he’d always felt around her before. A computer can’t touch him, after all.
“… why am I here?” A pause, as if he’s surprised by the question. He hasn’t really thought this through; sort of just assumed that he’d walk in and she would explain everything off the bat. If he has to ask, though… shit. How is he going to phrase this?
“I guess I… ugh. Hang on. You have a translation program now, right? Like Annie does.” He frowns, fidgeting with the catches on his head.
“… promise you won’t take a photo.”
That’s all the warning he gives her before he reaches up and pulls the TV off. He sets it on the desk next to her laptop, and sucks in a deep breath. “… Sorry. No secrets, right? Don’t really get much time f'not wearin’ this thing any more, and it hurts the shit outta my neck, yeah?” It comes out, of course, in English, and fairly thickly accented. Harper Michaels does not speak Japanese. “Sumiko - can I call you Sumiko? Feels weird sayin’ Ihara-san in English… if you don’t understand somethin’, just say, aight?”
“So… I’ll get right t’the point, then.” He reaches up to rub his aching neck and sighs, averting his eyes, suddenly feeling very looked at. “You and Kaitaro - you really were gonna kill somebody, weren’t you?”
She waits -- she’ll comfortably wait as long as it takes for him to get comfortable, watching in a mild, detached manner as Harper shifts his position from this to that, unable to make up his mind. She’s the one with time to spare -- what’s a few minutes? It’s almost expected, really -- there’s not really a protocol for talking to the dead. At least, not when they can talk back, in a sense -- so the pause doesn’t surprise her. What does surprise her is his question -- and the swift follow-up. The removal of the TV -- a sight that, while alive, she never got to see. Her image looks surprised, digitized eyes lingering on Harper’s own, following the lines of his face and committing it to memory, attempting to quantify what Sumiko would have thought of it.
She still appears to be in thought when Harper asks his question. When she finally comes to a resolution and does respond, looking up with a strange affection, it’s in Japanese-accented English -- still in Sumiko’s soft, quiet voice.
“First of all, Sumiko is fine, no worries. Second of all... hm.” Another brief pause -- for realism, more than anything else. “...Yes, and no, you know?”
The program doesn’t bother to wait to elaborate. “Kaitaro was always going to kill someone, I think -- whether I helped or not. If I helped, then it would go more smoothly -- have a better chance of success -- if you can call the end goal ‘success’.”
Her tone is ponderous, reflective, and utterly free of guilt. “...If I’m being totally honest -- and we are, so... -- I was only ever planning to be the accomplice. Even if it went wrong... I was never, you know, supposed to die. I think Kaitaro knew that, when they asked me, even if they won’t say so. That’s how it was, with us.
“...That’s all just details, though. I guess in short, yes -- we were planning to kill somebody.”
The image of Sumiko on the screen fixes Mike with her gaze, then, and smiles again -- small, soft, and knowing.
“But you knew that already, Mike-kun.”
