☘ ||「LITTLE ONE.」
he digs through his vest pockets, fingers brushing against the JOURNAL as he does so, before finally producing a crumpled twenty dollar bill. guilt gnaws at him, being ten dollars short, but he makes a mental note to make it up to the fortune teller somehow. so far, they’re practically the only one in the whole town willing to even begin to entertain his questions, and that in itself makes this visit worth it. it’s all he can do to hope that the answers will provide some degree of satisfaction. he does as he’s told, only a moment’s hesitation before he settles into the indicated seat. there’s a buzzing in his gut, determined excitement and disbelief blended into one – finally, he might just get some useful information about the town… “ well, uhh, I mean she’s – maybe another time… but, here, I’ve got twenty for now, I’ll get you the rest another time, I swear !! so, uhh, how much do you know about this place ?? how much can you TELL me ?? “
slender fingers accept the payment, refold the bill neatly && stow it away in a locked drawer even as they sustain their attention on the boy. there is no need to see the future ;; they already trust him to return the unpaid amount. how could they force the payment when they might as well be delivering a death sentence? delayed movement, their gaze passing over their supplies for a moment longer than normal. they will not spare DETAIL, will not let the child leave without proper preparation for all the troubles he is to confront. striking a match, they light incense && lay it aside, produce a small bundle of herbs && make for their hearth. if they did not have all of the answers, las would FIND them. they leave the child at a small table, only set for two, while they reach for firewood, a piece of paper, a satisfactory response.
❝ i know you will, i trust you, little one. this place? i know that no one is safe here, that trust is as rare as the answers you seek. && i know that it is no one in the town’s fault that without a little help they can’t get to sleep. i know that there is a lot to know && very few wiling to know it. tell you? everything you wish to know. what i cannot see, the smoke shall see for me. you will get your answers. speak now, what is the word currently? er, sosna. what do you wish to know most? ❞
